COVID vaccine? Does it do anything?

Greybottle · 09/12/2024 13:45

I jumped at getting the COVID vaccines when they came out and I got all the vaccines that I was eligible for to date except for this year.

I got COVID in the summer time and I wasn't able to get the vaccine this winter. My GP recommended a 4 month wait.

It's just I got COVID twice. Once in 2022 and I had that bad too. I wasn't hospitalised but still I was ill with fever, body aches, headaches and coughs for over a week. I was rushed back to work prepaturely when I still wasn't 100% better.

I got COVID this summer too. I was floored with it.

A lot of people were floored with it this summer. Even though we got the COVID vaccines.

It's just I got a reminder text to book the vaccine today and I just don't know.

I am not anti vaccine but what is the point of the vaccine when youre still going to get exposed and become ill to this anyways?

I got flu in 2004 or 2005 and I was getting flu vaccine because of my work from about 2008 and I never had flue since 04/05. The flu vaccine works. But I am questioning the COVID vaccine? What is the point of going out of my way to travel to an establishment to get jabbed and sore for a few days and if I am exposed to COVID, I am likely still going to get it.

Well I beat you there as I have over 20 q years experience in the same field. And your answer is still a no then

oh my god, are we at that level of discussion?
"I've worked longer at my place than you did, nah nah nah."
Cracking debate, thank you for the intellectual workout

Prof. Neil Ferguson is a scientist and whilst he was calling for lockdowns and restricts to be tougher, he was visiting his mistress for, I assume, more than a bit of social distancing. If he wasn’t concerned about the risks and he was the expert, why were any of us?

He also apparently predicted 150,000 would die from foot and mouth, 50,000 would die of BSE, 150 million world wide would die of bird flu and 65,000 would succumb to Swine flu. All of which were way off.

There was also a group of fully qualified scientists that formed the Great Barrington Declaration that stated we would be much better focussing on protecting the vulnerable and that the fit and healthy should continue as normal and schools remain open etc remain open, but they were drowned out by fear mongers and particularly Matt Hancock - who incidentally wasn’t a scientist.

Just a thought for the future. My cousin is a consultant and said at the height of covid, 80% of those in ICU were obese or morbidly obese.

Bachboo · 09/12/2024 17:19

Well yes we are. So the answer is still no then?

Oh, you're brave

crumblingschools · 09/12/2024 17:22

@JohnPrescottsPyjamas is your cousin seeing the same number of people ill with COVID, if not why not? The nation hasn't suddenly got thinner, even with weight loss injections available. On a side note would people refusing the COVID vaccine use weight loss injections?

Fraaahnces · 09/12/2024 17:23

I am slightly suspicious that I developed cardiac complications following my last Covid vaccine. I am pro-vax and gratefully accepted every single one offered. (I am a nurse). I didn’t have any side-effects apart from a sore arm with any of the other shots. The last one, I began to feel a bit blah, and gradually felt worse. Within two weeks I was in hospital with suspected “sepsis”, although no bacterial or viral infection was discovered. My heart function was only 23%. It’s taken until now to get it back to 44% and I am very lucky. I have been left with dilated cardiomyopathy, and it may have been Long Covid or the vaccine. Well never know.

sorry, I can't engage with you if that's the level you're at.
no hard feelings but would be a waste of time.

Not what I'm seeing in real life,
Not heard a single person regret not taking the injections.
Lots of buyer's remorse from those who did take them

Not heard a single person regret not taking the injections.

Well, the ones who died are not likely to be voicing an opinion.

changedusernameforthis1 · 09/12/2024 17:39

I'm honestly not sure.
I also got the vaccines as soon as they were available for me. I caught covid whilst vaccinated and I was so, so ill with it. I barely moved for weeks and lost a lot of weight, had an ambulance out etc.

I then caught covid a second time whilst not vaccinated because I'd been really busy and hadn't got around to booking it. Felt like I had a mild cold for a few days, only tested because I had to for work.

Decided not to get any more vaccines. Just recovered from my third round of covid and it was in between the two. Not horrendous, so no professional health care needed, but I was still really poorly with it and lost some weight.

It could just be different strains though. Also, weirdly I was the only one in the household to actually get covid the first time. DW and both DC were around and they were all fine. DW had the vaccine but neither DC did because it wasn't available to them at that time.

haha, true. I'll specify living people!

SnappyGreyLemur · 09/12/2024 17:40

Anecdotally my husband and I have had all the covid jabs offered and have never knowingly had covid, and I don’t know anyone who has become ill after the vaccine.

it always surprises me that it is only the covid deniers and anti vaxxers who know a multitude of people who have had adverse and life changing reactions to the vaccine.

may be we're sceptical of the covid vaccine because we saw so many people made ill from them?

crumblingschools · 09/12/2024 17:42

@Notmoog and not ill from COVID?

I've had 8 vaccines and had Covid I think after about vaccine 5
Was unwell but I don't have a functioning immune system so I was never going to be as unsure if the vaccines have actually triggered any response
I know one person unwell after the vaccine and she died but I still had mine

Notmoog · 09/12/2024 17:44

crumblingschools · 09/12/2024 17:42

@Notmoog and not ill from COVID?

If you are sceptical about the covid vaccine then it will be because you feel that it does more harm than the illness would do to you.
I have seen too many people coincidentally become ill within a few days of the injections.

Whoarethoseguys · 09/12/2024 17:48

Notmoog · 09/12/2024 13:55

well, reducing the severity is a guess and again, anecdotally, people who had the vaccine appear to get iller than those who don't.

As you say that's not based on any scientific facts.
Reducing the severity is not a guess it is based on proper peer led research.
I have had all the vaccinations I can and do have my friends and family some of us have had COVID all very mildly some have never had it at all. None of us have had any serious adverse after the vaccinations
I know two people who didn't have the vaccination. One died from COVID one ended up very ill in hospital

crumblingschools · 09/12/2024 17:48

@Notmoog so have you never seen anyone ill from COVID, or do you ignore them or believe it is a delayed reaction to the vaccine?

Potating · 09/12/2024 17:49

Notmoog · 09/12/2024 13:54

Anecdotal ( before anyone jumps down my throat) but myself, husband and 3 sons have had none of the injections.
I assume we've had covid but at the most were rough for a day.
I know lots and lots of people who have had however many boosters and have been very ill with covid.
i also know lots of people who were very pro the injections and now say they wouldn't have any more after the horrendous side effects.
personally, I wouldn't have a covid injection even if paid.

Same. No jabs here. Had it once, mildly in 2020. Keep seeing friends and family come down with it again and again despite endless jabs...

teatoast8 · 09/12/2024 17:50

Notmoog · 09/12/2024 14:28

oh right.
I believe the injections don't help the vast majority and are positively harmful in terms of side effects.
Still not sure how that would link to random conspiracy theories

I never had any side effects....

bigvig · 09/12/2024 17:52

Parker231 · 09/12/2024 13:54

The vaccine reduces the severity of Covid if you get it and hopefully prevents you from becoming seriously ill.

So people say but that's not what I see. No jabs here and no covid either. People I know who got the jab seem to be getting ill with a virus every 4-5 months or so. They never used to be so ill so often.

Notmoog · 09/12/2024 17:53

crumblingschools · 09/12/2024 17:48

I don't personally know anyone who was very ill from covid but I don't really know anyone in the demographic which was most likely to get ill from it.

crumblingschools · 09/12/2024 17:55

@Notmoog but you seem to know many people who were extremely ill from the side effects of the vaccine. What is your definition of really ill from the vaccine and really ill from COVID, are they the same?

Notmoog · 09/12/2024 17:58

I know a fair few ill from the vaccine, yes.
My mother has epilepsy and hadn't had a fit for about 20 years. She had 3fits within 12 hours of the injection and was left with balance problems for almost 12 months.
I'd say that was pretty ill but others my disagree.
