COVID vaccine? Does it do anything?

Greybottle · 09/12/2024 13:45

I jumped at getting the COVID vaccines when they came out and I got all the vaccines that I was eligible for to date except for this year.

I got COVID in the summer time and I wasn't able to get the vaccine this winter. My GP recommended a 4 month wait.

It's just I got COVID twice. Once in 2022 and I had that bad too. I wasn't hospitalised but still I was ill with fever, body aches, headaches and coughs for over a week. I was rushed back to work prepaturely when I still wasn't 100% better.

I got COVID this summer too. I was floored with it.

A lot of people were floored with it this summer. Even though we got the COVID vaccines.

It's just I got a reminder text to book the vaccine today and I just don't know.

I am not anti vaccine but what is the point of the vaccine when youre still going to get exposed and become ill to this anyways?

I got flu in 2004 or 2005 and I was getting flu vaccine because of my work from about 2008 and I never had flue since 04/05. The flu vaccine works. But I am questioning the COVID vaccine? What is the point of going out of my way to travel to an establishment to get jabbed and sore for a few days and if I am exposed to COVID, I am likely still going to get it.

@Parker231

I'm not at risk, have good health, look after myself, have never had flu or the vaccination so absolutely no need in my opinion to take it, my daughter (23) has never had the vaccination either and has never had Covid

Two of my friends would have said the same about their health - both died of Covid just before the vaccine rollout.

@Parker231 which is very sad but still i don't see need as for me it's not a threat

Excellent. So when we get the next plague, you'll be willing to take point?

rosemole · 01/01/2025 22:53

Everyone has a choice on what they allow to enter their own bodies and that must be respected, even if others disagree. That's the principle of informed consent.

hereandthere72 · 01/01/2025 23:24

Never had COVID, had 2 vax, regret bitterly. Husband no Vax had it fairly badly Jan 21 nothing since, brother , 2 daughter no Vax never had it, son 2 Vax twice but very mild , mil no Vax terminal lung cancer never had it. Parents never had it after boosters not been well since 😞 their Dr advised no more as she had seen to many people like them. I do think as others have said it's anecdotal? As although I live in an area with a very elderly population I don't know anyone who has died from COVID, but I do know someone who died from the now banned jab

bodaud · 02/01/2025 07:10

@gamerchick it's my choice what I choose to put in my body, I will never ever take this, no one I know has died from Covid or been particularly ill, but I know of quite a few who have developed blood clots from the vaccine, you do you and respect others decisions

There is no "banned" jab. If you are talking about the AZ one, it was withdrawn for commercial reasons.

As of March 20, 2023, over 13 billion Covid vaccine doses had been administered worldwide. I often wonder what the death numbers from Covid would have been without those vaccines. A scary thought don’t you think?

bodaud · 02/01/2025 10:12

@Parker231 nope doesn't worry me in the slightest, myself and my family are very happy with our decision

@bodaud I think it's important we follow the path we feel is best for us.

I think CVD can be serious. The vaccine can have side effects. I haven't had the vaccine. I did have post viral issues from COVID 18 months ago, which were successfully addressed. The vaccine still is not for me.

Since then I've done everything to improve my health for should I get it again, though we never can know. Diet, gut health, a few carefully chosen supplements, fitness, trying to improve my circadian rhythm and sleep, listening to when I need rest. Doing what I can to manage stress.

The last time I had COVID, I did everything I figured might support me to get through it, it didn't take hold like the time before and I have no post viral issues thankfully.

bodaud · 02/01/2025 10:51

@Sortumn
Glad to hear you are now
doing well! How scary for you!
I agree 100% agree with your words, I have many many friends who took vaccine and many more who didn't, I have never asked their reason, same as I don't ask why they smoke or drink or do do anything, it's not my business, I would never dream of forcing my opinion others.
We all make informed choices as to what we do and eat etc, like you I am very careful what I eat and drink and watch my weight etc, I try to keep stress out my life and I love being outdoors in nature.
I am more than happy with my choice and have never been worried about Covid but obviously for those who are it's again their choice what to do and how they deal with it

FrumpleBoat · 03/01/2025 06:47

@bodaud

I think the thing that sets humans apart from other animals, the reason why we thrive is that we have learnt civilisation, manners and how to live communally.

If you go back to medieval times, there were constant battles, a lack of resources and fight for survival. The weak would not have been protected.

I think the pandemic pushed many of to focus on protecting ourselves and to reject living communally.

I think you see this now in America with Trump - who wants RFK as his health minister in Jan.

RFK is anti vaccines and plans to investigate the discredited link between autism and the MMR vaccine. As well as being anti Covid vaccines etc.

This will lead to less vaccine uptake and the ‘choice’ not to take vaccines due to anti-science theories. Also, why stop there? Why ‘suggest’ or advise that any medication should be taken? Why stop at vaccines?

This will encourage a society where we look out for ourselves, reject science in favour of ‘the strongest genes’ and money/resources etc will be taken from the weaker (the vulnerable, elderly or disabled like my son).

I don’t want to live in that society and I don’t want my son to be ‘othered’ and rejected more than he is already.

You are making choices based on anecdotal unscientific evidence.
It's an indisputable fact that far fewer people have died from having the vaccine than from having covid.
People have also died from taking penicillin, do you refuse to take antibiotics?

BurntBroccoli · 12/01/2025 19:37

I've had 2 AstraZeneca and I was so ill with them I didn't have any more.
Had Covid in January 2020 but not had it since.

Yes - we say thank goodness for the scientists and virologists. Scary to think about the numbers of deaths there could have been without the vaccines.

You mean the vaccines that were supposed to have killed vast swathes of the population by now? Within two years, wasn't it? Or has that deadline been extended?

I think she means the injections which were predicted to cause strokes/ heart issues and detrimental immune responses. Pretty bang on so far.

The vaccine is safe - millions of people have had with zero side effects. Your friends and family will remain healthy.

Getting the COVID-19 vaccine can:

  • help reduce your risk of getting severe symptoms
  • help you recover more quickly if you catch COVID-19
  • help reduce your risk of having to go to hospital or dying from COVID-19
  • protect against different types of COVID-19 virus

Why was my last comment deleted for gods sake? The censorship is actually very sinister

here is the daily mail article on similar which I assume isn’t subject to censorship

This place was one of the worst for censorship so I'll expect to see your link disappear soon.
But gosh, who would have thought it would have detrimental effects on the immune system..........

FrumpleBoat · 21/02/2025 07:55

It’s a small scale study. The article says it needs more investigation.
It’s in the Mail who are so well known for their balanced reporting.
The problem is when people like yourselves try to blow it out of all proportion to prove an anti vax stance.

That’s why you get deleted.
You then start linking crap from YouTube.

“This place is the worst for censorship”.
So why keep posting the same drivel here then? If you don’t support Mumsnet’s terms and conditions?
