Anyone thinking about skipping the latest booster?

I've had 3 jabs in total so far, and the last one made me REALLY poorly - couldn't get out of bed for a few days, crazy fever, hallucinating.

They didn't stop me getting Covid, which I've had 2 positive tests for since the first jab, and which was mild compared to how bad I was after the last booster!

I've been invited for the next booster and just can't see why I'd get it. I've had 3 jabs already so must have some protection, right? And since I keep getting it despite the jabs, I'm fairly likely to get it again in the next 6 months whether I do or don't get jabbed?

I can't see the upside.

I'm studying hard for a career change and have 2 little kids. If I had a reaction like last time I'd really struggle to keep all the balls in the air...

I'm being offered the booster because of my high BMI but don't have any co-morbidities, blood pressure good, not pre-diabetic, generally well.

Curious to know what others are thinking?

Sod's Law isn't it? I've seen/heard a few people being offered the booster as a carer or health worker but don't want it;
Whereas I'm really pissed off that they've changed the threshold this time round and no longer offering it to the 50-64 age group. My understanding is that efficacy is the vaccination reduces a lot after a few months, hence yearly boosters being offered to those who are most vulnerable.

Wish I'd been offered it - healthcare professionals aren't getting it. I'd take it like a shot. Covid is still around and it's still nasty.

They are here. I had mine last Thursday.

Everyonesliverlovesparvo · 27/09/2023 22:55

Same here. Had mine last Thursday. Flu jab too.

Californiabound · 27/09/2023 23:02

I have an invitation for it, as a booster, but haven't had previous, not sure how that works. Just finished a course of antibiotics for a chest infection, not sure tbh. Never had a flu shot either. Tbh I barely go outside so don't think I will bother, I obviously decided against earlier ones, can't see how this one is any different.

Californiabound · 27/09/2023 23:11

The last time I had antibiotics for a chest infection, the week later covid erupted. This time covid seems on the ascencion again Confused maybe that was covid, although doubtful because both times I didn't feel ill/fluey I just was wheezy and short of breath. Which is understandable because I have always had slightly dodgy lungs (premature and childhood asthma)

Californiabound · 27/09/2023 23:17

Maybe all hell will break loose again soon, get your toilet rolls in lol.

Clarabe1 · 27/09/2023 23:28

Not a chance! I had the first vaccination and it made me really ill, so ill I was taken in for tests on my heart, then had to suffer the indignity of half my hair falling out. It took 2 years to grow back properly. The real irony is i got Covid before the vaccinations and I got over that fine, I got Covid again after the jab and it floored me. I am not anti vax but there is no way in hell I would have another Covid jab. Everyone to their own but I believe it is poison.

Singleandproud · 27/09/2023 23:34

I was massively grateful for the first set of vaccinations and boosters when I was working in a school in close quarters to 100s of people but now I WFH so barely see anyone I'm comfortable to miss future ones.

watcherintherye · 27/09/2023 23:36

Yes, I’ll be swerving any further Covid jabs. Had awful heart palpitations after my 3rd. Went on sporadically for months. Could be coincidence, but I’d never experienced them prior to the vaccination and won’t be risking it again.

Californiabound · 27/09/2023 23:55

Tbh I had an odd reaction to the hepatitis vaccine. Felt odd in my head for ages. So I was wary of any vaccine.

QueenBitch666 · 28/09/2023 01:17

It's a no from me. I only got the initial jabs so I could
A Go on holiday
B Go to gigs
I've never had covid

Re the flu jab, I had an adverse reaction to the one I was pressurised into having for work. Never felt so ill in my life. Never again

Wishfulthinking1977 · 28/09/2023 01:17

I had two, I declined the others, my parents in there 70s have had one booster, refused anymore under drs advise due to the side effects affecting them.

Timeforchangeithink · 28/09/2023 01:27

I had my first booster (cev) which gave me the same symptoms as your 3rd jab. Haven't taken any others- decided to take my chances and guess what- actual covid was a doddle compared to the side effects so no more for me!

RenegadeMasterx · 28/09/2023 02:52

My grandad has had 7 jabs. He's currently laid up rough as arseholes with covid.

I had the first two I'll never have another.

sunglassesonthetable · 28/09/2023 15:37

and there seems to be more harm than good done by them.

Absolute arse of course. Like which medical paper/journal/qualified report did you pull that one from?

Dear god you read some shite

Yep I'm not rushing making an appointment but I believe in vaccinations and robust public health policies. So 👍🏻

AutumnCrow · 28/09/2023 15:50

I had my 7th covid jab this morning. Feel ok so far. I had an appointment but the vaccine centre (big pharmacy) also operates as a 'walk-in' and they are inter-lacing these with the booked appointments, using the same waiting area, which is a bit of a pain for immune-compromised patients trying to go somewhere not-so-hectic for as little time as possible.

Although tbf I only had to wait 15 minutes past my allotted time.

The waiting area is next to a door (lots of fresh air) which was good. It's also in between the shelves for the Tena pants. Lots and lots of Tena pants. They had, as Beattie used to say, all the colours in all the sizes.

HappydaysArehere · 28/09/2023 16:09

Have had all the jabs including another last week. Not had any trouble from any of them and when I did get Covid it was very mild. I am in my eighties and have anything that I am lucky enough to be offered. I can understand reticence if you have had a bad reaction but despair at those who just read the latest horror story going around and ignore the science, time and money that has gone into producing a protection for us.

OakTree16 · 28/09/2023 20:24

I had the first three - I won’t be getting anymore though.

Atticustheaardvark · 28/09/2023 21:12

Ihateslugs · 26/09/2023 12:23

I will be having the Covid booster as well as the flu jab, I have never had a reaction to the Covid jabs apart from a sore arm. I’ve had a fairly mild dose of covid once after my first two jabs.

I socialise with several different groups of people, some of whom are older than me, and I want to protect them as well as myself.

Thank you - you wrote this post for me!

Atticustheaardvark · 29/09/2023 10:32

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/09/2023 13:55

The upside is that you won’t feel as rubbish as I currently do, hopefully. Fit as a fiddle, it’s laid me low.

Be thankful and have it. I don’t qualify this year, madly, despite living with a vulnerable person and being 59. So bloody short-sighted.

You are eligible if you care for someone vulnerable - just go to the NHS site and you will be able to book

Yes - DP has his jab tomorrow, booked on this basis.

(They never rigorously check anyway when you're there getting the jab. They may ask why you think you're eligible, ie which category you're in; but we've never been asked to produce paperwork to prove it, even though we take it with us.)

Exactly. I was told in 2020 that I was at greater risk of Covid complications and was always called for my jab early. All I got was one text from the NHS. This time I just booked online, my DH booked too for the reason that he needs to be jabbed to protect me. When we got to the pharmacist they just asked why we were eligible. I said I'm at greater risk of complications and he said he wants to protect me. All fine, they just nodded. You can just book it - don't wait to be called forward.

Xenia · 29/09/2023 20:49

I'm very pro vaccinations and even paid £400 for the twins to have the BCG (TB) one privately when the NHS stopped doing that one, but not the covid one. It is not one for me.

itsgettingweird · 29/09/2023 20:52

Having vaccines are a personal thing.

I've had 5 jabs now.

First 2 and then 3 boosters - had mine today too!

I have had covid twice. March 2020 and was horrendously ill and Jan 22 6 weeks after a booster jab and just had a sore throat.

I may not have had it if I'd had a bad reaction like you but I've only ever felt tired after and nothing an early night can't cure!

itsgettingweird · 29/09/2023 20:56

Yes you are eligible if you care for someone vulnerable.

My 19yo ds has a neuromuscular disorder and so he's in at risk group.

I get mine as only other person in household. I get flu for same reason.
