Anyone thinking about skipping the latest booster?

WoolyMammoth55 · 26/09/2023 12:11

I've had 3 jabs in total so far, and the last one made me REALLY poorly - couldn't get out of bed for a few days, crazy fever, hallucinating.

They didn't stop me getting Covid, which I've had 2 positive tests for since the first jab, and which was mild compared to how bad I was after the last booster!

I've been invited for the next booster and just can't see why I'd get it. I've had 3 jabs already so must have some protection, right? And since I keep getting it despite the jabs, I'm fairly likely to get it again in the next 6 months whether I do or don't get jabbed?

I can't see the upside.

I'm studying hard for a career change and have 2 little kids. If I had a reaction like last time I'd really struggle to keep all the balls in the air...

I'm being offered the booster because of my high BMI but don't have any co-morbidities, blood pressure good, not pre-diabetic, generally well.

Curious to know what others are thinking?

Shingles is for over 70s only as it's really nasty for them, even worse than younger people. My DSis looked into getting it privately but couldn't find anything.

It's now for people turning 65 and those severely immunocompromised over 50 since September.

cptartapp · 27/09/2023 13:41

andonceagain · 26/09/2023 13:52

@gamerchick yes, NHS offers shingles vaccination to anyone aged 65+ or those aged 50+ if they have a weakened immune system.

It isn't for anyone over 65. You have to have turned 65 on or after 1st September. So if you've just turned 66, 67, 68 or 69 you have to wait until you're 70 (unless severely immunocompromised).
It's a very complicated algorithm.

I'm a nurse and won't be having anymore. Have had cardiac issues since Covid kicked off and was admitted with a heart rate of over 160 two days after the last vaccine. Then inappropriate tachycardia for months. Tinnitus, muscle twitching, vestibular problems.
Had Covid two weeks ago and was in bed for two days but no more vaccines for me.

Did you have any heart issues before having the vaccine?

QueenoftheNimbleFlyingCat · 27/09/2023 13:47

I've not had any of the COVID vaccines (and I am eligible) and don't think I've had COVID and if I have it's been mild. The risk v benefit is just not there for me.

cptartapp · 27/09/2023 13:49

Iclaudine none at all. Went into fast AF at one point and have had a cardiac ablation. Still get palpitations even now.

Emsb2022 · 27/09/2023 13:49

Same as you, was so unwell after last booster never again! Had covid in 2020 and thought it wise to have the jabs, was fine with the astra zeneca ones but after having the Pfizer and being so ill, I skipped the last one, DH and DS both had it. Strangely, they both got covid and I didn't so not convinced it would have helped anyway!

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 27/09/2023 13:49

I get being pregnant catching covid would not be ideal, and if the vaccine didn't make me so ill I'd have it in a heartbeat. But it does. I've had a very high risk pregnancy with bleeding, threatening very premature delivery and all sorts.

I'm scared if I have the vaccine it will make me very unwell again and that could push my body into labour at 31 weeks. I know 2 people that went into labour prematurely after being unwell (not due to vaccine to be clear!). Their bodies just went this is too much, get this out. I've got to balance that fear (which may well be a bit irrational I admit but this baby has fought through so much to get this far) with what is the likelihood of me catching covid itself in the next few weeks (I only caught it once so far that I know of back in early 2022) and how severely I'm likely to get it. It's a hard decision.

I had my whooping cough vaccine when offered. Flu vaccine I had, always have for other reasons, never too unwell with it. This time I had a headache the next day. No problem. Covid vaccine was 38.5 degree plus fever, weakness, shaking etc. I'm not just making the choice for me this time, I'm making it for both of us and that makes it so much harder.

Fistralstorm · 27/09/2023 13:50

I won't be having anymore vaccines. Neither will any of our parents (all in their 70s)

Superfoodie123 · 27/09/2023 13:52

@IClaudine honestly it is hilarious to me. I'm surprised you guys are still going. Especially because you can still catch it after vaccination and there seems to be more harm than good done by them.

Caring about your health? Eat well sleep well, exercise well take your zinc, vitamin d and selenium plus the others and see how your health improves. Funny how you've outsourced your health to a jab. I'll get my 'tinfoil hat' on now and leave out the back.

Fistralstorm · 27/09/2023 13:56

@Superfoodie123 No need to leave out the back. You're bang on the money

Superfoodie123 · 27/09/2023 13:12

Can't believe people are still jabbing 🤔🤣

You refuse it if you want. Why do you need to belittle the choices of others?

How's that going to improve my health when I already do all that? My health is affected by a blood disorder where I destroy my own white cells
That's like telling someone who has cancer to take vitamins

That is not what you said on a previous thread...

Should have clarified 'started before a Covid booster vaccine'.
I was at least two jabs in iirc by then.

"Why put yourself at such risk with no protection ?"

My immune system is plenty protection

Ha, that’s what I thought. Fit as a fiddle. Viruses, bacterial infections. Water off a duck’s back my whole life. My oxygen saturation was 74% on Tuesday night. My husband photographed the (hospital provided, he is I suppressed and has to keep tabs on his) oxygen saturation level because the urgent care doctor had been incredulous at the figures of 80 and 84 the two preceding nights. It was bloody scary.

Get your frigging jab.

Probably already said on this thread, but bonkers people are still trying to claim this. There is a wealth of evidence (robust, replicated, independent sources, different contexts, triangulating methods) that demonstrates better outcomes with vaccination versus no vaccination after infection@Superfoodie123

At this point you're closing your eyes to the evidence in front of you and blindly repeating other peoples incorrect opinions (which they are normally pushing for profit).

Funny how you've outsourced your health to a jab.
Hmm I "outsource" my health to all sorts of interventions when they are evidence based - washing hands after the loo, recommended vaccines, antibiotics when sick, surgery when required, steroid injection for an injury, a biologic medication for a chronic health disease....

Doing these things alongside having a healthy lifestyle when possible is hardly rocket science.

MrsSkylerWhite · 27/09/2023 14:53

Amen to that, Biochemist.

lubylo · 27/09/2023 17:02

"which they are normally pushing for profit"

Unlike big pharma, who lie more than pigs in shit, and of course as someone posted earlier, biden get the shot, you won't get the covid, that went well🤔

Ah the classic.

No one is denying big pharmeutical companies behave unethically and have real issues with transparency and COIs.

Not sure why this makes the anti-vaccine industry and individuals who profit from it - where fake claims are pushed for profit, causing preventable disability and death - totally fine. Clearly neither is ok.

Fortunately, we are way past depending on "big pharma" to provide data on vaccine safety or effectiveness. The evidence I am quoting (robust, replicated etc etc) comes from population data, from independent bodies, from all over the world. Trial data is largely irrelevant at this point.

My friend AND her daughter (17) both have cardiac problems after the Pfizer. Both on medication. Perfectly fine before.

lubylo · 27/09/2023 20:20

"from independent bodies"

Surreptitiously funded by big pharma, like the fact checkers nonsense, anyhow it's a free world, or is supposed to be, those who wish to take risks with needles are free to do so.

Not sure why I bother typing the long posts when you seem to take a couple of words, put them in quotation marks, and ignore the rest! @lubylo

Yup "independent bodies". There must be over a thousands publications now assessing various aspects of vaccine safety and effectiveness, from different research institues, groups, countries etc. I can't speak for every single publication, but I know plenty of my collegues who are funded by NGOs and charities who have done such work.

You're suggesting a giant conspiracy in which tens of thousands of research staff worldwide have been persuaded to take part in a cover up - don't you think that's a little unlikely?

We agree that no one needs to take up the offer of vaccination if they don't want to, but I think it's preferable that they aren't coerced out of it by fake claims and are able to make an informed choice.

nopuppiesallowed · 27/09/2023 21:11

@lubylo
Because big pharma sometimes, according to some people (i don't know because I haven't researched it)behave unethically, are you saying that you have not and never will take advantage of antibiotics or cancer drugs? Because that's what you seem to be saying.

No I never said that, being diabetic that would be foolish.

BettyOBarley · 27/09/2023 21:31

DH and I have had the 3 so far, but don't think we'd have another if offered.

We've just had COVID again and did feel really unwell, but DH was just as unwell with the last booster.

We didn't have DC vaccinated and still no chance we'd do that if it came back around.
