I felt quite unwell last night (thought it was just a cold) so tested out of curiosity, and it’s positive. I’ve got an office full of people to let know today.

Am I in a time machine?

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 23/08/2023 06:48

Why do you need to tell them?

TeaKitten · 23/08/2023 06:50

I don’t understand why you need to make an announcement about it either.

DustyLee123 · 23/08/2023 06:52

Becuse I want to let my coworkers know, as some of them have vulnerable relatives. And because I think it’s the right thing to do.

Why did you test?

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 23/08/2023 06:53

I tested positive about 3 weeks ago and after a few days of a cold was completely floored and have only just now started to feel better.

People can be so cruel in their comments but it's here and it's not going away. It's OK to be cautious.

Why did you test?

Because I felt like shit and I’m a nurse.

Thanks for doing the responsible thing OP. Hope you feel better soon!

Peony654 · 23/08/2023 07:23

mad anyone still tests

Bimblesalong · 23/08/2023 07:45

Thank you for doing this when you have a chain of vulnerable people who could be affected. I hope you’re soon better. I had it a second time this spring and was floored for a couple of weeks - first time left me with long covid.

Peony654 · 23/08/2023 07:23

mad anyone still tests

Maybe the rules/guidelines are different for HCPs as they work with vulnerable patients.

Wotty · 23/08/2023 08:20

@DustyLee123 feel better soon. contrary to the nonsense it is the right thing to do to test :)

Overdemanding · 23/08/2023 08:22

Surely if you feel that ill you wouldn't be at work anyway? What can anyone do? Just stay at home, there's no need to create a drama tell anyone.

Moonberri · 23/08/2023 08:30

Thank you for testing. I got covid 3 weeks ago from someone who had a cough but didn't bother to test. He infected at least 20 people I know of who were at the same event. Lots of those 20 people infected others and their families as well. One of them is in hospital.

I had a high fever for a week, felt awful for 3 weeks and missed out on a lot of things I had planned to do with my DC over the summer. Thankfully I didn't pass it onto my elderly parents because I tested.

Ignore the idiots who say "why test". If they haven't figured that out in the last 3 years there's no hope for them.

The guidelines are still to isolate for 5+ days, and 10+ days for vulnerable people. Covid hasn't gone away just because you don't want to hear about it any more.

Hope you feel better soon OP.

K73c · 23/08/2023 11:38

Just like the thread I started that seems to have spun out of control - it feels like a restart for all this horrid, unhelpful comments. I think most of us realise that covid now isn't as serious as it was, but it is for many (incl me right now) like proper flu and IS as contagious as flu . So people need to at least as the OP said at least let others know , as many low immunity etc (that's me) ...it's far from ideal but shouldn't be dismissed just because covid no longer as light threatening as was. Hope you feel better soon. It's wiped me out and think me out of all family affected as immunity low (2 weeks ago had throat infection and don't think over that - I didn't isolate then tough did test). And if people test - their choice - people shouldn't be telling people off online for this - you don't even know them (and other circumstances which could be many and varied )

DupontsYellowDressingGown · 23/08/2023 11:44

All these burks asking 'why test?' when they know full well there are people who need to be cautious...

I still test if I have any symptoms as we have someone immunosuppressed and I also don't want to pass it on to elderly relatives etc.

Hope you feel better soon OP

SavetheNHS · 23/08/2023 18:26

When they rules were relaxed the government were very keen that people take responsibility themselves for minimising the spread of COVID. They said that people were sensible and would test if necessary (tests from pharmacies) and would make their own personal decisions on how best to protect those around them and reduce the spread. They have handed the responsibility to us. As someone who has long COVID which has ruined my life, thank you OP for caring about others. Also, I hope you recover quickly.

ScarlettSunset · 23/08/2023 18:33

I always test if I think I could have Covid as I don't want to spread it to others and also think it is right to let people know if I was around them just before feeling unwell.

It just feels like the decent thing to do. Even before Covid I hated it when people came in to work when they had dreadful colds and I really hoped that sort of behaviour would stop but it doesn't seem to have.

Hope you are better soon

Motheranddaughter · 24/08/2023 18:05

If the government wants people to isolate they should make sure people get fully paid
I no longer test and only stay off work if I feel too bad to go in

JustAnotherRandom · 25/08/2023 01:43

Hope you feel better soon OP. Thanks for testing. You could have saved someone a lot of heartache.

darkestnights · 25/08/2023 13:38

I don't know why people are snapping "why test?". I have young kids and we see friends often, I don't want to be passing on Covid to babies or other vulnerable people.

Hope you're doing OK OP. I started feeling a bit rough on Monday and have gone steadily downhill, it's been awful. Much worse than I remember it to be

DustyLee123 · 25/08/2023 16:05

Thanks for all the positive comments 🙏🏻
I’ve absolutely no sense of smell at the moment, and go downhill rapidly if I do too much. Hope you positive people feel better soon 💐

I'm just getting over it - it's was pretty bad. I don't understand why people think it's fine to spread it?

I wasn't well enough to go out so technically no need to test - but surely it's useful to know whether you've had it so you know when to go for a booster? Aren't you supposed to wait 3 month after an infection?
