Tested positive for covid

I felt quite unwell last night (thought it was just a cold) so tested out of curiosity, and it’s positive. I’ve got an office full of people to let know today.

Why do you need to tell them?

Because it is a nasty illness like norovirus (except that it can still kill some people). I would like to know to avoid you if you had anything like this 😷

It can be life changing so I believe personal responsibility also means letting people know. Why would I take that choice away from them, just because I can have that power, especially when it can screw a life for years? They may choose not to test or modify behaviour for a few days, or they may choose to pass it on to others. It could be another kid that doesn't end up in a wheelchair, another class without a teacher, someone that can still have an operation, someone who doesn't lose their business. If I'd let people know about chickenpox, why wouldn't I do it for something much more dangerous?

God, this is shite. Day 8 and I am still testing positive.

Sorry to say that I tested strongly positive until Day 13 when it suddenly turned negative. I isolated the whole time.

I understand why people say 'why test', because there's no guidelines for covid anymore that set it apart from any other illness.

However.

I say it for a different reason.

It doesn't matter if you have covid, a cold, flu, a bug.. they can ALL (repeat, ALL) be dangerous to those with weakened immune systems. It doesn't matter what your contagious illness is called, we don't want to catch it, thank you.

If you're contagious with ANYTHING, please. stay. home. if it's possible for you to do so. A few days of being a bit bored will save LOTS of suffering from other people.

You're not being a hero dragging yourself into work when you're unwell. You're just making sure that everyone else has to drag themselves in while feeling like shit when they catch it in a few days time.

This!!

I don't have covid tests and won't buy them. If I am poorly then I stay away from people - it's not relevant if it's a bad cold/covid or the flu- all of these could cause issues to someone who is vulnerable.

I also think the people who say it's selfish not to test, and they would isolate until negative, don't realise that there are many who just don't have that option. Sick pay can seriously affect a family. And employers are not usually receptive to "i feel ok but still test positive" - a lot of employers would demand you get back to work.

Even back in January 2022 when I had covid - I was required to isolate, if still testing positive until day 10 but then back to work. I was testing positive for days after that, but I felt perfectly well and legally no longer required to isolate. Work expected me back at day 11
