I felt quite unwell last night (thought it was just a cold) so tested out of curiosity, and it’s positive. I’ve got an office full of people to let know today.

I’ve got it again currently and feel utterly hellish.

For those frankly being a bit of a cunt questioning why people test, I have vulnerable grandparents that I help look after and I was due to be in their home tomorrow with my sister who works in a care home. Hope that’s a good enough reason for you.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TESTING !!

I know it's expedient for this shit show govt to pretend that this has gone away .. but my mum and dad (vaccinated and boosted at every turn ) and no health issues were killed by a trip to Aldi in March .

Dad on the 2nd April
Mum on the 4th April

Dad had prostate cancer for 11 years
Mum didn't have anything. Not even high BP ..

It's a killer

JustAnotherRandom · 25/08/2023 21:38

@awfullytricky I'm so sorry. 💐

@awfullytricky so sorry for your losses Flowers

mad anyone still tests

Some of us are immunosuppressed or have an immunosuppressed child at home. My youngest was suddenly in that category when he started taking biologics in May and probably will be for the rest of his life. Not all of us take Covid lightly. Some of us appreciate people testing.

Tessisme · 25/08/2023 22:58

How absolutely devastating for you @awfullytricky. I'm so sorry.

RidingMyBike · 26/08/2023 08:26

You have done the right thing by testing and then acting on it. My work still provides free tests and requires you to stay at home for five days if positive. Either WFH or off sick and they still pay if your role can't be WFH.

I wish other employers still did this as it would reduce the risk for everyone.

Netcam · 27/08/2023 15:12

DH, DS1 and I all tested positive this week. DS2 is negative and is the only one who has ever tested positive in the past. Could be the first time for us 3, so we'd like to know.

Also don't want to give it to others, glad we tested as we were invited to a party yesterday and they didn't want us to come if anyone in the family was positive as there were vulnerable people attending.

DS1 got it first and is getting better. DH and I are in early stages, he feels absolutely terrible, I am not too bad so far but positive test was this morning.

Really hoping DS2 avoids it as last time he was really ill for 6 weeks. He starts 6th form next week and it would be such a shame if he misses the start of term.

So sorry for your losses. That is terrible. I am avoiding people completely until I'm fully recovered and testing negative.

olderbutwiser · 27/08/2023 15:21

Surely anyone who feels like they have a nasty cold/flu should stay away from other people, whether they test +ve for covid or not?

If you could test for a cold/flu, and you got a +ve test, would you spread it around? I would't.

The only difference is that we actually have a test for covid; we don't have a similarly accessible test for flu.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to test for covid, and to stay away from people if you're positive. And if we had a parallel test for flu I'd do it for that too.

Becuse I want to let my coworkers know, as some of them have vulnerable relatives. And because I think it’s the right thing to do”

Which it is. My husband is CEV and it could cause him problems if you treated him.

I lost my mum and dad from covid in 2021 less then 2 weeks apart. It's shit.

Makes me so angry when people say "why test" or "it;s just a cold"

Moonberri · 27/08/2023 15:35

I tested strongly positive for 13 days and isolated for all that time. I would have felt OK to start mixing with people after 6 days but didnt. If you rely on "how you feel" you will infect people.

Also, lots of people aren't ill enough with covid to feel ill enough to avoid going out. So they would be merrily spreading it around to vulnerable people if they didn't test.

Peony654 · 23/08/2023 07:23

Selfish that people don't.

I had covid a month ago. 3 days unable to even get out of bed, aching, temperature, throwing up non stop even though I could not eat or drink as unable to even keep a sip of water down.

I am still not totally over it. I do a bit of housework or gardening and then have to rest.

I am glad not everyone is stupid and selfish

Sundaybaby · 27/08/2023 15:51

Thank goodness for responsible and considerate people like you, OP.
@ awfullytricky I’m so sorry for your loss.

ManchesterLu · 27/08/2023 16:10

I understand why people say 'why test', because there's no guidelines for covid anymore that set it apart from any other illness.

However.

I say it for a different reason.

It doesn't matter if you have covid, a cold, flu, a bug.. they can ALL (repeat, ALL) be dangerous to those with weakened immune systems. It doesn't matter what your contagious illness is called, we don't want to catch it, thank you.

If you're contagious with ANYTHING, please. stay. home. if it's possible for you to do so. A few days of being a bit bored will save LOTS of suffering from other people.

You're not being a hero dragging yourself into work when you're unwell. You're just making sure that everyone else has to drag themselves in while feeling like shit when they catch it in a few days time.

Anyfeckinusername · 27/08/2023 16:15

I'm positive right now too! As are my two kids...

I can't understanding not testing, I prefer knowing what is wrong with me when something is up.

squashi · 27/08/2023 16:31

I think you were right to test. As others have said, you could pass the condition on to someone vulnerable. I tested positive a few months ago with mild symptoms - nothing like flu or anything I'd normally stay off work for, but I wanted to check because of some of the people I was due to socialise with. In your situation I'd stay off work for a few days, or whatever's needed. I doubt anyone you work with will be too worried.

SayNoToDoorToDoor · 27/08/2023 20:45

I tested positive a couple of days ago. I’m immuno-suppressed and had a spare test. I though I was putting my mind at ease before my holiday. Bloody covid.

The holiday booking people didn’t care said enjoy your holiday. My insurance were fine with me going too as long as my doctor was. My doctor was not happy. I could be ok, I could go downhill quickly. Who knows.

So I’ve had to cancel my holiday. I just hadn’t realised covid is being treat like a cold now and people can travel when they have symptoms.

Once I know for sure I’m ok and that I’m getting my money back I think I’ll book a private villa rather than a big hotel. It’ll be rife everywhere.

I’ve told friends and colleagues. Some are taking precautions as they have elderly family.

SayNoToDoorToDoor · 27/08/2023 20:47

I hope you feel better soon Dusty, you did the right thing.

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 27/08/2023 20:59

Hi Op, get well soon. Well done to you for being so considerate.
I felt very unwell last Saturday, completely floored. I tested out of curiosity as i had them in the cupboard and it was COVID. I didn't go anywhere for 5 days as I felt extremely unwell. I also cancelled a playdate and avoided elderly relatives..

DustyLee123 · 27/08/2023 21:25

Thank you 🙏🏻 I’m feeling much better now, but the sense of smell hasn’t come back yet. Today is the first day I haven’t needed any painkillers.
I will continue to test when necessary to protect my patients and their relatives, plus my own family.

Vallmo47 · 27/08/2023 21:30

Glad you’re feeling a bit better OP.
You’ve handled it well, needless to say.

Smoky1107 · 28/08/2023 21:58

I've just tested positive, been unwell for a few days and am positive, I work in a clinical setting so with being unwell thought it best to check. I also flew home from holiday this morning so not great for those around me.

InternetSafe · 30/08/2023 10:50

Glad you’re feeling better - I also don’t understand why some people seem to be outraged about testing. We all know we don’t need to, but a lot of us have contact with elderly and vulnerable people so it seems the most sensible thing to do so at least you can try and protect others where possible by letting them know / avoiding them.

The work place seems to be a completely different kettle of fish though, some employer’s really don’t seem to care about this!
