It was on the news but also lots of fb posts from people saying buy a lottery ticket if you didn't get covid at Glastonbury because you are that lucky as so many have.

Hardly surprising I know but it seems its absolutely rife at the moment and it's highly contagious.

Not good news for hospitals and care homes who still have to follow rules around self isolation. Care Homes still have to lockdown if 2 member of staff or mote test positive and lots of hospital staff will also be off.

OP posts:

I can’t believe there are posters like the OP still around!!

You really miss the good old days of lockdown 😂

Well, you're taking the time to post on the coronavirus board!!

brown543 · 30/06/2022 17:36

I'm with the others, it's not a big surprise.

I've been to two concerts in London in the last fortnight and really enjoyed the atmosphere of a big crowd after the pandemic.

I'll take my chance with getting covid or not. I travel on the tube regularly so I'm probably more likely to get it from that in any case.

Devongirly · 30/06/2022 17:34

Well, you're taking the time to post on the coronavirus board!!

It was a click bait title that came up in my Actives!

i thought it was going to be something fun about Glastonbury!

turned out it was fun but not in the way I’d expected!

Crikeyalmighty · 30/06/2022 17:36

I hate to say this too but I'm a cynic and I think there are a few people using it as an excuse when they don't want to attend anything/fancy a few days off-

SlashBeef · 30/06/2022 17:37

So..? Loads of people at a festival caught a cold. Meh.

Ohthatsexciting · 30/06/2022 17:37

On my actives on my phone it only included half the thread title!!

IcedOatLatte · 30/06/2022 17:38

but it is worrying that there is the potential for groups of people reporting sick with the infection which shows it is still out there and still highly infectious

Did you think covid had gone away @daisychain01 ? Surely everyone knows it's still around especially at the moment, no is surprised that people they know have covid are they?

Ohthatsexciting · 30/06/2022 17:38

MajorCarolDanvers · 30/06/2022 17:06

The news says "scores" have tested positive. That is less than 100.

That is not the same as "nearly everyone" who went.

Why let the silly facts get in the way of a hyperbolic news story?!!

SpidersAreShitheads · 30/06/2022 17:41

Some replies on this thread are so fucking rude.

If you had COVID and it was just a head cold, then cracking. For many people that all it seems to be. That's great but it's not always the case.

I have a friend in her 40s who caught COVID, seemed to just be a nasty flu-type illness. No need to see a doctor etc. OK. Except that now she's been floored with mystery long-term symptoms which are utterly disabling. She's a carer for a severely disabled child and it's just destroyed her life. She's been seen by multiple specialists and they think it's Long Covid. She was previously very well before, bar a life-long thyroid disorder which was well controlled. She's waiting for an appointment at the specialist Long Covid clinic at the hospital now.

The thyroid disorder never made her ill - but apparently doctors now believe when combined with COVID it can rip your immune system to pieces.

I totally understand that lots of people aren't bothered about COVID now but some people are. And sometimes with good reason. We're not all anxiously quivering under our tables praying for lockdown as some of the rude comments on here suggest.

Hospitalisations for COVID are rising. Deaths for COVID are rising. This might never affect you but there is still a chunk of people out there who could be really affected by catching COVID, and understandably so.

Attend crowded events and don't worry about the risk. Avoid crowded events in order to stay clear of COVID. Do what you feel comfortable with. There's nothing wrong with either perspective but quit with the sneery, snotty comments.

We really have learnt absolutely fuck all about treating each other with kindness and respect.

There isn't any way that could be true, if the strain moved so quickly that everyone got it at Glastonbury on the weekend then almost everyone else in the nation would have it by now too.

Glastonbury is a 6 day plus festival....I got there Tuesday night and left the following Monday...plenty of time to catch covid....me and my partner are fine ( both tested as we nhs workers) ...out of the 22 people I camped with 8 now have covid....so not half....but life has to go on....we all paid our money and took our chances....none of my friends are seriously ill .....they all saying that it was worth catching covid to have had such a great time

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 30/06/2022 17:43

I should have thought it was inevitable.
A dd caught it recently - she said it was probably on the cards, having just spent over 10 days on trains, buses and planes in/to and from Eastern Europe for work.
On the plus side she had only the very mildest symptoms and tested negative only 3 or 4 days later

KeyWorker · 30/06/2022 17:45

So what are you saying? That people who work in care homes or for the NHS shouldn’t attend such events or that large events should never be held again? And who are all these Glasto goers who are rushing to Boots to purchase COVID tests?

kitcat15 · 30/06/2022 17:45

Buythebag40 · 30/06/2022 17:14

How do they all know? Surely most people aren't testing anymore considering you now have to pay for tests and it isn't a requirement?

Lots of people still have tests in their cupboards and all nhs staff and social care staff can still order free tests...so lots of free tests still out there

SpiderinaWingMirror · 30/06/2022 17:53

I got it from going to a concert at the 02 arena/getting there or back. I gave it to at least 6 people.
But loads of people I know from all over the country have it. It was always going to happen.
Grim for a few days but better within a week.
I went to Glasto before and came home with the worse stomach bug I have ever had. That's communal living for you.

Why did they test?

Pocolovo · 30/06/2022 17:54

Well even if it’s true.-,and I doubt it is so what?

puffalo · 30/06/2022 17:56

Just because some of you want to stay indoors for the rest of time and not socialise, doesn’t mean everyone else wants to.

I’ll take my chances at round two of Covid and live my life, thanks.

Crikeyalmighty · 30/06/2022 18:02

For those who think it's just a cold- I am 60 so have a lot of 50 pluses on my FB feed , many currently with covid and a great many who have been really 'in bed' unwell- def not just a cold. I had it in February and was wiped out for at least8 days. I do think life has to go on but it's unfair to belittle it- many are still vulnerable to being very unwell with it at minimum

fishonabicycle · 30/06/2022 18:07

My friend works in a residential unit for people who have a lot of health issues - she has been very careful not to carry COVID in. However, most of the residents have now had it and they were all perfectly fine with a couple of paracetamol. We really need to get over the scare mongering.

FourExcellentQuestions · 30/06/2022 18:13

About half the people I went with have it. It does seem to have been quite rife to be honest!

Etinoxaurus · 30/06/2022 18:14

balalake · 30/06/2022 17:27

Self isolation coupled with proper sick pay should still be in place for Covid 19 in my opinion.

Some good employers are doing that and more- we’ve been given tests and told to test if positive. Full pay until we’re negative. Vulnerable clients (and staff)

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 30/06/2022 18:15

The two people I know who went got it there!

Dominuse · 30/06/2022 18:16

If I test positive I have to isolate for a minimum of 5 days that seriously screws up my work

Whatthebarnacles · 30/06/2022 18:20

I hadn't heard this (sound like I live in a cave, I know ha!). It wouldn't surprise me if this was the case. But... I know lots of people who went and not a single one has covid (at the moment, that is!)

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 30/06/2022 18:21

I had it two weeks ago from probably a gig in Leeds.
I stayed in for two years as I'm CEV, its was my 7th gig of the year and I accepted the possibility.
I was at another gig last night, recovered and fine, as it is for most people.
We have to live with it now.
