It was on the news but also lots of fb posts from people saying buy a lottery ticket if you didn't get covid at Glastonbury because you are that lucky as so many have.

Hardly surprising I know but it seems its absolutely rife at the moment and it's highly contagious.

Not good news for hospitals and care homes who still have to follow rules around self isolation. Care Homes still have to lockdown if 2 member of staff or mote test positive and lots of hospital staff will also be off.

Why did they test?

NHS or social care workers…..we all still are expected to test twice weekly and still get free test kits…… why do you ask?

MsOllie · 01/07/2022 15:33

Unlikely to catch hepatitis
Had norovirus and was ok but would rather avoid as I hate vomiting Blush
I've had bacterial pneumonia and was ok - but did need heavy treatment and was in hospital

God it's so hard to word it!
This is LIFE long but I was diagnosed at 31. So I'm having to manoeuvre and work out how to work FT and how to socialise, date, do stuff and live but also not get sick
So prior to covid I would of course hand wash, gel, avoid sick people etc. Now I do the same but there is LFT which makes it better? If there was LFT for norovirus and flu, too right I would use them

Technically I should not eat fresh fruit, veg or salad but would you go the rest of your life without it? I couldn't, so the balance is I know I have never been sick from fruit or veg, I eat a lot cooked/tinned but I have some fresh

I can't stay home 24/7 for my entire life but I also can't be 100% "normal"
Me doing this causes nobody else any issues at all so in the nicest way it's nobody else's issue what I do

So what are you saying re what others should be doing re covid?!

toomuchlaundry · 01/07/2022 15:48

A LFT for flu and norovirus would really be great especially when visiting vulnerable family/friends.

A client of DH's runs nursing homes. In the first lockdown they were lucky to not have COVID in the homes. There were also fewer deaths than normal in the homes as norovirus wasn't being brought in

PoleFairy · 30/06/2022 19:37

Honestly who cares? And who even tests? DH works at a care home and they no longer test him

I test….twice a week…..I test myself…..I often visit vulnerable children and babies with complex health needs…..i still live my life to the full. ….but are sure I test…..why doesn’t your DH test himself? ….he can still order free tests online as a care worker…. Or can he just not be arsed anymore

BeenToldComputerSaysNo · 01/07/2022 16:01

@MumbleAlwaysMumble - thanks for sharing. Voices like yours do help some realise the potential consequences and maybe help some not go through/put others through the same thing.

BeenToldComputerSaysNo · 01/07/2022 16:08

@MsOllie sorry for your loss. 💐

AngelsWithSilverWings · 01/07/2022 17:27

DH and DS were at Glastonbury , got back on Monday and DH tested positive on Tuesday. He tested after a few of the group he had been there with said they had been pinged ( I didn't know that was still a thing )

He's never had Covid before and neither have I.

DS caught it at school last October and so far he hasn't got the Glastonbury version ( we are all testing daily now)

Unfortunately DD who is CEV has come down with it now and we are waiting for the call to sort out some anti viral treatment for her.

I'm sort of annoyed as I did say he would probably come back with Covid but also know that DH could have caught it at work or on the train just as easily.

I'm now the only person in our family who has never had it.

Dishh · 02/07/2022 02:49

I find it odd how people question on here well you can't stay away from everything when you wouldn't walk up to someone on chemo and say that. My illness is invisible, but my white blood cells act as though I am having chemo permanently.

@MsOllie My sibling is about to start yet another round of chemo. He doesn't have an immune system at all - a consequence of a previous bone marrow transfer (that didn't really work) and repeated bouts of flu and pneumonia. He is terrified of catching Covid, as he has no defences.

I don't expect anyone here to understand that, though.

KylieKoKo · 02/07/2022 13:16

I hope your daughter get a mild dose @AngelsWithSilverWings

This is very anecdotal but my CEV friend sailed through compared for everyone I know! She just had mild sniffles and this was before anti-virals were available for this.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 02/07/2022 14:15

@KylieKoKo thank you she does seem to have only very mild symptoms which is lucky as the promised call to arrange anti virals never materialised.

DH is in touch with the 20 people he was at Glastonbury with and so far he is the only one in the group who has caught it. It seems that the DH is also the only one who has never had Covid before now.

Wishfulthinking1977 · 02/07/2022 22:02

It's weird isn't it! My DH had delta in Jan 21 (confirmed by PCR) the rest of us got nothing! (I may of had it but didn't bother testing as we were in lockdown! I live in a town with 80percent of people are over 60, we have 6 nursing homes we have still had no-one died with or from covid! We do unfortunately have someone who died due to the vaccine 😔. That said I'm not against the vaccine for people for whom covid could be deadly! Ultimately there is no way to stop a virus, that's just the way it is! You can wear masks (DH wears fitted n95 daily) you can wash your hands but it won't stop; the best thing imho is better sick pay for people that are poorly and treatment for those that are Ill! Unfortunately we can't go with prevention is better than the cure because prevention that isn't working has nearly bankrupted our country and not helped!

fishonabicycle · 03/07/2022 06:42

All I meant was that lots of people - even elderly and/or vulnerable ones - are catching COVID and not being very ill now. Extrapolate away.

A town with 80% over 60??

where on earth do you live? A care home?

Wishfulthinking1977 · 03/07/2022 09:07

@Ohthatsexciting 😂😂 it does feel like it sometimes!! It's basically second homes and care homes!

user1487194234 · 03/07/2022 09:28

Nobody I know is testing

Bloomin heck…. Doesn’t sound the most exciting of places. Quiet at least I suppose

good church fetes?

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 03/07/2022 09:45

I don't suppose all the people ill after Glastonbury took a test (you don't have to)

Aren't the symptoms of covid rather like being tired and hungover...

Ohthatsexciting · 03/07/2022 09:03

Why are you annoyed? Did you not want him to go to Glastonbury?

Probably because she is worried sick for her CEV daughter?
Because she wants to anything and everything to protect her?

Wouldn’t you do that for your own child?

CovidHasCaughtUpWithMe · 03/07/2022 10:06

Ohthatsexciting · 01/07/2022 14:57

Genuine question

so what is your point in relation to covid and how does it differ from other infectious diseases that you may catch.

The difference for me is how infectious covid compare to many other illnesses.

Also it is MUCH MORE prevalent. The rate of infection has been above 1% all year around. This never happens for other illnesses, let’s say like the flu which is seasonal etc…

Overall, this mean the risk of catching covid is higher than with other illnesses - proven by the fact many people have had covid several times already in the last 2 years whereas you are likely to have the flu maybe 2 or 3 times in your life etc…
And I need to Be more careful than I was before

malificent7 · 03/07/2022 13:14

I think we all need to get it for herd immunity...except the vulnerable. I went to glastonbury with dh, dd and dsdd. Dsdd is the only one who hasnt got it. We are being sensible and self isolating but after day 5 will start getting bk to normal. Symptoms are v mild for me, dd and dh knackered but getting there.

DurhamDurham · 03/07/2022 13:29

We went away to stay in a v nice hotel and both came back ill. Went to the Isle of Wight festival a few weeks later and have never felt better. It's not just festivals which can make you ill Grin

I didn’t realise vulnerable daughter

so in that case, I would ask my son to isolate for a few days after he returned from Glastonbury rather than stop him going or be annoyed with him

🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

there isn’t such a thing as herd immunity with covid. That’s why people keep catching it!!
I mean about 90% of people have had covid and we STILL have very high number if cases. Why do you think it’s like this?

Errr… maybe read again

it’s a bit late isn’t it? Her DH is already ill and they have both being mixing with the rest if the family.

tbh I didn’t read that post as @AngelsWithSilverWings being annoyed with her ds or her DH.
Rather she is well aware they could have caught it anywhere (like her ds who caught it at school etc…)

But she is allowed to feel frustrated and annoyed and worried about a situation where her dd is regularly out at risk by normal daily activities. Wouldn’t you?
