It was on the news but also lots of fb posts from people saying buy a lottery ticket if you didn't get covid at Glastonbury because you are that lucky as so many have.

Hardly surprising I know but it seems its absolutely rife at the moment and it's highly contagious.

Not good news for hospitals and care homes who still have to follow rules around self isolation. Care Homes still have to lockdown if 2 member of staff or mote test positive and lots of hospital staff will also be off.

I went to a clothes shop today and they were talking about how short staffed they were due to an outbreak of covid and blaming Glastonbury. Presumably some staff members had attended the concert at the weekend.

FourTeaFallOut · 30/06/2022 15:48

Did they drive far to get there?

Flapjacker48 · 30/06/2022 15:53

Thought we had got over this scarmongering rubbish now?

BellePeppa · 30/06/2022 15:54

Are people even testing themselves anymore? Unless you have an official test because you’re going to have a medical procedure no one is really bothering. I had it recently, if I hadn’t been tested by the hospital before having a procedure done I would never have even guessed I had it.

vodkaredbullgirl · 30/06/2022 15:57

Wimbledon will be blamed next, don't forget The Jubilee.

Are we to lock ourselves away again 🙄

MermaidEyes · 30/06/2022 15:57

I know a shit ton of people who went to Download and every single one of them is fine so I don't see this is particularly valid regarding festivals.

PansyPetunia · 30/06/2022 15:58

I've spent this morning with a colleague who went! Brilliant!

He's had covid before though so might be ok

Ylvamoon · 30/06/2022 15:59

I didn't go to Glastonbury.
I am recovering from covid.

I had the last 5 woking days off.
How does that confirm the theory.

Oh and I had my positive test last Thursday... after work.

bigbluebus · 30/06/2022 16:04

Lots of people have covid atm. DH had an event at work yesterday and loads of people cancelled due to Covid.
Whilst I don't doubt that many people came back from Glastonbury with covid I can't believe "everyone" has. For a start some people will have had it before they went (possibly from Jubilee weekend like we did) so doubt they'd catch it again so soon.

IncessantNameChanger · 30/06/2022 16:05

I cant see how its transmisable outside but I know this happened at previous festivals so it must be.

I just dont think people are that interested any more. I know of someone who is positive who arranged a large indoors socail gathering. I was there and un aware but PERSONALLY it does worry me now I know I was with someone who knew they was positive. Like it or not this is where we are now. You cant put that back in the bag can you? How do you buy into say another lockdown knowing it's ok to mix with covid confirmed cases for months? I dont think you could. Restrictions was driven by fear which mostly has gone now.

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 30/06/2022 16:06

I know about 30 people who went to Glastonbury (dh included) Not heard of any of them testing positive yet.

Libertybear80 · 30/06/2022 16:10

My work colleague of off for 2 weeks cos she caught covid but she said it's not the covid it's health anxiety! It's something we have to learn to live with now we can't shut ourselves away forever!

Ohdearr · 30/06/2022 16:14

I'm not saying that its a problem that people are out enjoying themselves that's how it should be I'm just saying it seems to be rife at the moment and highly courageous. I agree that that people should get on with their lives however staff in care homes and hospitals still have to test and isolate according to government rules so due to the huge amount of people who have it at that the moment, that will cause big issues.

vodkaredbullgirl · 30/06/2022 16:29

I work in a care home and still yet to get covid. Plenty of residents and co-workers have had it.

Mascia · 30/06/2022 16:31

Georgeskitchen · 30/06/2022 15:23

I call bullshit. Do you seriously think almost every single person who attended has tested themselves for covid?

That’s a good point.

ladydimitrescu · 30/06/2022 16:33

news.sky.com/story/amp/covid-an-inconvenience-rather-than-life-threatening-for-many-now-says-who-12641149

WHO themselves have stated it's an inconvenience for most rather than an actual threat at this point.
So what do we do? Never go back to normal? Just more hysterical nonsense. The world is moving on from Covid.

onemouseplace · 30/06/2022 16:35

Probably not everyone, but an awfully high percentage of the people I know went to Glastonbury now have covid.

LovinglifeAF · 30/06/2022 16:36

And what?

normal life has to return. it was less bad than a cold for me and I won’t be the only one, I’m triple jabbed but pushing 50 and CV .

i guess everyone who went knew there is a pandemic on and that catching it was a risk.

for most people vaccination has drastically improved outcomes. The number of people at risk of severe illness is way lower than it was in 2020

Mybeautifulfriend22 · 30/06/2022 16:39

FourTeaFallOut · 30/06/2022 15:26

There isn't any way that could be true, if the strain moved so quickly that everyone got it at Glastonbury on the weekend then almost everyone else in the nation would have it by now too.

The cases in my trust have increased week on week for a few weeks and have gone from very low numbers. We have more covid positives testing in A&E than we’ve had for a couple of months. While some are in with covid some are also just testing positive while in with other things. But this shows it’s around in the community.

It’s obviously another wave. I know at least 4/5 people in the last couple of weeks test positive. Staff starting to go off as we still can’t be in work.

MumsnetMafia · 30/06/2022 16:42

Crock of shit. The crowds gathering in London were far greater and no one batted an eye about COVID for that. I know a few people who went to Glasto and have been fine.

motogirl · 30/06/2022 16:46

How does anyone know they have covid. Testing stopped in April. Apparently it's rife currently but I didn't even manage to catch it off dp in March so I'm not concerned.

Eeksteek · 30/06/2022 16:49

Yeah, it’s rife. We either have to live with it or deal with it though. Our primary school government has decided that living with it means pretending it doesn’t exist, rather testing and trying to contain it at all, so it’s inevitable that people are wandering around with it and big crowded events like Glastonbury are spiking numbers. It was blindingly obvious it would. Let’s hope the vaccines keep people out of hospital and the NHS limping on (which the idiot government could have beefed up to cope. That’s living with it!)

GCRich · 30/06/2022 16:52

brookstar · 30/06/2022 15:22

So, what's the answer? We stop doing normal things forever?

I think it is reasonable to point out problems without necessarily having the answer.

oakleaffy · 30/06/2022 16:53

So far to my knowledge I haven’t had it but live in South West.
Is there any way of testing if one has had it??

TellySavalashairbrush · 30/06/2022 16:54

Wouldn't surprise me. Thousands of people packed in like sardines, limited ability to be scrupulous with hand washing and not a face mask in sight.
