Day 1 (but suspect 2) - have a sore throat and am a bit tired - but otherwise fine. What do expect?!

Have got covid, and don’t feel too bad. I’ve had all three vaccines.

Does it get progressively worse? I have a sore throat and am a bit tired but that’s it.

I took an ibuprofen before I realised I actually had it - which I know you’re not meant to do - whoops.

Am I likely to feel worse?!

i’m sure this has been asked a million times! It’s my first covid experience so I don’t know what to expect!

I tested positive Tuesday but suspect I had it a day or before (a friend I spent a good bit of time with at the weekend also has it). I've got a snuffly nose and have coughed a bit but feeling overall better today.

The line on my LFT today is a lot fainter than yesterday, so hope that means the viral load is lessening already.

TulipsGarden · 06/05/2022 13:33

Ibuprofen is fine unless you're normally not recommended to take it - it can restrict your lungs but likely only if you're already affected by illness.

I found it went in waves, basically in line with fever coming and going. Day 2 and 3 were worst, and then day 11 when I went for a long walk and overdid it.

Careerchanger88 · 06/05/2022 13:48

Thank you all!

That’s a relief about ibuprofen! I worried I made things worse.

The line was fairly strong, which is why I think I’m unlikely to be day 1 - plus I felt unusually tired yesterday.

Fingers crossed I have it mildly! I have been really stressed lately so I wonder if my immune system is low because of that.

Luckily I work from home so I don’t have to decide about whether or not to go into work! I don’t even know what the rules are on quarantining anymore!?

I’m on day 6. Honestly it’s been fine. I was only testing because my son got it last week and I had faint sniffles.
on days 1-4 I had bright purple lines too. Fainter now.

Careerchanger88 · 06/05/2022 15:14

Feeling ok as the day goes on a bit. I think if I didn’t know I had covid, I’d think I was a bit tired with a sore throat and that’s all. God I hope it stays like this!

did anyone get worse from a mild day 2?

OP posts:
TheoSawUs · 06/05/2022 15:23

I’m also on day 2 (it’s now bedtime where I live) and my cough is noticeably worse today than yesterday when it was barely discernible

I had exactly this and felt 100% 72 hours later.

LeftFootForward · 06/05/2022 18:15

From my experience it was a mild illness, no real cold symptoms, no cough, runny nose etc but I had a temp of 38 on about day 6 for a couple of hours. Felt headachy and achy limbs and a weird sore throat that felt just uncomfortable, not painful. I was well enough to work throughout.
However, despite no real cold symptoms I suddenly got really bad sinus pain on day 8 and lost about 90% of my sense of taste and smell. Sinus pain lasted 48 hours then gradually went and sense of smell gradually came back over the next week.
I felt very tired for about 10 days after I'd tested negative on day 10 but I felt pretty much back to normal after 3 weeks.

I'm not vaccinated and I have no comorbidities so I would expect you'll be fine OP.

Get well soon 😊

I’m on Day 6. Day 1 I felt like I had a bad cold but no worse. Days 2 and 3 I had a fever, chest felt sore and I was exhausted and slept a lot. I mostly WFH and was able to answer some email and do some calls from the sofa from day 4 but am still feeling quite weak and tired and I struggle a little with my breathing when I try to sleep. Worst thing for me has been the change in taste - things either taste too salty or bitter or taste or not much at all. I’ve lost 4lbs since Sunday as a result!

I’m due to go into the office on 3 days next week which is really unusual for me and am hoping I will test negative to enable me
to do that.

LeftFootForward · 06/05/2022 19:03

What I meant to say was I'm not boosted !!! Either way I'm sure you'll be fine OP.

Careerchanger88 · 07/05/2022 13:18

Day 3 (ish?!) and I don’t feel too bad, tired and swollen faced but I can’t sleep properly and have no idea why! My only real symptom is still a sore throat.

I look a bit rough, but don’t feel too bad so far…

Another first timer here too

I’m on ( official) day 3. Felt rough on Wednesday so cancelled my evening plans, tested Thursday am and bingo !

I’ve been up and down really . Feel okay then I’ll suddenly feel a bit woozy and hot. Am in bed but only as I am staying away from the rest of the household.

current symptoms are runny nose, random sneezes, tickly throat. The aches and sweating on day 1 and 2 have passed

I wish someone would offer me some bloody lunch though

thaegumathteth · 07/05/2022 13:39

I had positive LFT on a Friday (testing cos Dd positive), had a head ache, sore throat and tummy on Saturday. Then just sneezy for a few days and occasionally a bit wheezy.

AntarcticTern · 07/05/2022 13:41

Sore throat was the main symptom for me too OP. Otherwise I felt pretty much normal throughout.

ICannotRememberAThing · 07/05/2022 15:58

Day 1: Very cold, shivering, tired, couldn’t concentrate at work. Went to bed at 5pm.
Chills and sweats throughout the night, very broken sleep.

Day 2: Tested positive in the morning, stayed off work.
Chills and sweats continued throughout the day. Itchy nose & throat. Dizzy.
No concentration. Broken sleep, vivid dreams.

Day 3: Headache, runny nose & itchy throat, Dizzy spells that come and go. Pressure in head (like a head cold). So so so tired.

Thats where I am at the moment!

ICannotRememberAThing · 07/05/2022 16:04

Worst thing for me has been the change in taste - things either taste too salty or bitter or taste or not much at all.

Thats interesting! My DD made me a hot chocolate (one of those Dolce Gusto things so they’re all the same) and it was unbearably sickly sweet! I usually love them!

Libertynan · 07/05/2022 21:32

I wanted, and enjoyed a glass of wine this eve with dinner. so I must be feeling on the mend.

I don't 'do' ill very well. I can't ignore all the household task that need doing. But neither can I go breathing all over the house and potentially infecting DH and DS. So am just hiding out and leaving them to it. DH did a supermarket shop. 🙄

ElegantlyTouched · 08/05/2022 09:19

Can I join in please? I lost my covid virginity yesterday and am finding it interesting seeing what I can expect from you guys.

I tested on Friday as a close contact was positive but it was negative (as I expected; having lasted for this long I think I believed I'd never get it). Thus the unusual headache I had Friday night I put down to me reacting physically to a horrendous week, and the sore throat I woke with yesterday to me going down with a cold.

I even ignored the exhaustion I was feeling yesterday morning. It was only when I realised I was freezing despite the heating being on and me wearing multiple layers (that was like when I had the flu) that I thought I'd better retest, and was still surprised to get a positive.

I spent the rest of the day feeling cold, exhausted and generally ill. I managed an hour's nap once dp took dd out the house (because obviously she didn't want her usual nap!) and went to be about three hours before normal, and slept all night.

Today I feel weak, and full of the cold with a sore throat. DP will be under orders to get me Beacham's Max and lots of chocolate. Hopefully yesterday will be the worst of it (but I know that's probably naive).

Careerchanger88 · 08/05/2022 13:25

Day 4 (I think! Could be 3?). I just feel tired. Slept 11 hours last night and still feel like I need more but can’t nap - apart from that I now feel pretty normal! It’s impossible to truly isolate in my house (one bathroom) so I am sure I’m going to spread it! Although no one else seems to have it yet.

VERY tired. Headache, sore throat have gone but I’m sneezing.
Dizzy spells throughout the day.
Spent most of the day asleep or lying in bed.

ElegantlyTouched

I does seem like headache, exhaustion, chills and sweats are the main symptoms of this particular strain.
Feeling dizzy on and off throughout the day is also widely reported.

Beechams max is brilliant - I hope yourDH picked some up for you. Sleep whenever you can. I feel for anyone with young DC going through this! I’m very lucky because my DC are not children anymore and I can just hibernate.
I hope you feel a bit better soon.

ICannotRememberAThing · 08/05/2022 20:30

How is everyone else today?

Frazzled2207 · 08/05/2022 20:50

Day 8 for me. Only just positive still. I have to admit I’ve been very lucky. A bit snotty but not “ill” at all

lurchermummy · 09/05/2022 07:32

I tested positive a week ago on Saturday. Still testing positive today. I have been through various stages, chills, sore throat, night sweats, aching limbs. Now overwhelmingly just tired and with a chesty cough. It's the weirdest feeling, sort of like having a really bad hangover but I haven't been drinking. DH is the same. I'm so fed up as I'm self employed so not getting paid at the moment either and it's quite a physical job so I'm feeling anxious about returning. Wondering how long I will test positive for. Triple vaxxed here too. My 90 year old FIL recently had it and said it was just like having a cold! Not my experience at all.

ImInStealthMode · 09/05/2022 08:14

Day 5 since positive test today and I've tested negative today and yesterday, so back to work cautiously (I'm not in the UK and actually never had to isolate at all so not breaking any guidance).

I've still got a bit of a blocked nose and tickly cough so curious that I'm testing negative but I've done 3 tests to be sure!
