Hi my husband tested positive today , he's been in bed most the day banging head and high temp. He's not vaccinated an im so worried he is going to get really ill 😭😭 he's normally fit and well x

OP posts:

I take it you've not seen the news from China, and how they have needed to increase restriction when omicron hits a largely unvaccinated population?

You should get your facts straight………

As of April 5, 2022, about 86.1 percent of people in China had been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus COVID-19.

passport123 · 12/04/2022 07:56

More foold him for being an idiot and not getting vaccinated. Hopefully you're more sensible?

Kennykenkencat · 12/04/2022 08:01

@BruceAndNosh

People have the right to remain unvaccinated. I'd prefer they were jabbed but I can't insist. But I'd prefer they didn't spread frankly dangerous misinformation. Your anecdotes are all very well but the FACTS are that as a group, unvaccinated people have worse outcomes. Insisting that Most vaccinated people have had it much worse is incorrect and irresponsible

(a few people seem to have interpreted my earlier statement the wrong way)

Doesn’t make it not true In DD’s case she only found out she had Covid because of a routine work test. Her friends who had been vaccinated were in a terrible state. Dd was climbing the walls as she was totally fine but having to isolate. Didn’t lose her sense of taste and smell and I was sat close to her each night and remained negative throughout

@IEatChocolateForBreakfast

Your husband will be fine! My DH and I are both unvaccinated. We've both had it twice since Feb. Extremely mild. Honestly barely even knew we had it. Most vaccinated people have had it much worse.
Rubbish
Covidwoes · 12/04/2022 08:09

My cousin's MiL was unvaxxed, perfectly healthy and nearly died. She's fine now, but came to her senses and couldn't believe she'd risked her life like that. Needless to say, she's now vaxxed.

southlondonerhere · 12/04/2022 08:10

@Poppetlove

Whos business is it if you are vaccinated or not. Some people are so rude.

If he takes a turn for the worse get on and ask for some of the medication from the GP.

Vitamins like quercitin, zinc, C and D have also been used as treatment options…liposomal is best if you are buying it..

Op literally included the fact that he isn't vaccinated in the title..

Hope he feels better though op

Covidwoes · 12/04/2022 08:10

@IEatChocolateForBreakfast can you provide me with a scientific link for your comment please.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 12/04/2022 08:11

the initial recommendation back in early 2020 was that for most people it will be mild

Itsbackagain · 12/04/2022 08:13

The person who was illest with covid was the only one who was vaccinated. In fact in two households the vaccinated person was the only one to test positive- twice!

ThirdElephant · 12/04/2022 08:19

Just pointing out for all the people on here banging on about how vaccinated people get it worse etc etc, that those mumsnetters with stories of the unvaccinated having COVID very badly are likely deliberately not sharing them here in order to not worry the OP.

Statistically, OP, he's likely to be fine.

When you write untrue statements like this, it really really doesn't help your cause. Or indeed the op. Because people will pick out your comment ad infinitum and respond with actual facts. I'm sure you're aware of the actual stats op, but try not to worry, even though unvaccinated does clearly run more of a risk, even then he still should be fine. The vast majority are especially those of his age. I'd watch him though.
Kennykenkencat · 12/04/2022 08:30

MintyMoocow
Well I hope the silly, selfish sod is quite seriously ill.. so there

Not everyone can have the vaccine

I always suspected I had a PEG allergy. Turns out I also have a polysorbate 80 allergy which pretty much makes me allergic to all vaccines and I am also allergic to the needles used to deliver vaccines, blood tests etc Which does explain a lot.

Whilst it is accepted that the vaccine does curtail the symptoms of Covid. Now the Covid variant has got weaker, how do we know that having a vaccine actually protects you or that the Covid variety you have just doesn’t give you the bad symptoms any way.

The way I see it is that I am more likely being passed the virus from a vaccinated person than an unvaccinated one. Yet as an unvaccinated person I have just lost another income source whilst those who have been vaccinated are regularly testing positive for Covid they have time off work but are allowed to continue

I am having to find another career. One where I am in charge of who works for me and not the other way round
Being medically exempt atm means I am unemployable
As though being vaccinated makes you immune from passing Covid on and being unvaccinated a walking Covid spreader.
The world has gone mad.

SamMil · 12/04/2022 08:35

I hope your husband gets well soon. Chances are that he will be absolutely fine Smile

As an aside, I really find the anti-vax sentiment on here crazy. Just because people's individual families were fine when they caught covid unvaccinated, doesn't mean that all of the medical evidence is incorrect...

I’ve had it twice. Unvaxxed. First time was pretty bad but had it a couple of weeks ago again and it was mainly just a sore throat. Honestly, my vaxxed friends have suffered much worse with it.

Really?

Yes really. Two friends, triple vaxxed, hospitalised with chest infections and breathing issues and took weeks to recover. Another triple vaxxed friend hospitalised from vomiting and passing out (didn’t know it was covid at the time because symptoms were very odd) and heart issues.
Not a single unvaxxed friend of mine has required hospital treatment. In the first wave, obviously prior to vaccines, so everyone unvaxxed, I knew of people being hospitalised and one death from hospital acquired infection whilst being treated for covid. All deaths are tragic.

Tynetime · 12/04/2022 08:41

I am sure you dh will be fine OP as her is healthy. Hope he gets well soon.

WouldYouIfYouCould · 12/04/2022 08:43

Alcoh

My DH had it at very beginning before vaccines. Needed hospital treatment. Has recently had it again after two vaccines and a booster and was a mild cold. Conclude what you will re vaccines. Hope your DH is ok OP.

I could say the same for natural immunity. First time I had covid I was very unwell (including breathing issues). Second time it felt like a very sore throat and not much else.
It could also be simply the fact it was a milder variant.
Your anecdotal evidence for vaccine efficacy is no better than mine for natural immunity. Glad your dh is fine.

Herejustforthisone · 12/04/2022 09:11

Seeing as he’s unvaccinated, this can hardly be a surprising situation you find yourselves in?

Same - we've found that it's been our vaccinated friends who when having caught covid have been reallly quite ill, although thankfully, none requiring hospital treatment where their unvaccinated partner hasn't been ill at all. One couple in particular, one of them (fully vaccinated) has had covid 3 times now yet her partner who she didn't isolate from only caught it the 3rd time, not the first twice. Personally I think it's all in the genes how you're affected.

LeftFootForward · 12/04/2022 09:53

@Mumofboys109

This new variant is very very mild. Good job he didn’t get the alpha or delta because if he’s feeling rough with omicron then alpha probably would have killed him. Very silly not to be vaccinated and I hope he learns from it. He will be fine.
No one was vaccinated when Alpha was around and I the vast majority did not die.
LeftFootForward · 12/04/2022 10:08

According to the data 95% of people who have died from covid in the UK have been over 60 years old with or without a vaccine and I'm assuming your husband is younger than that.

Even if he was > 60 years old and unvaccinated the odds are still very much in his favour to make a full recovery from what is for most people a mild illness.

Or to think of it another way...21% of people are unvaccinated (Travellingtabby.com) but 21% of people catching covid are not dying/seriously ill.

The best thing he can do is take it easy until he is feeling better which if my experience is anything to go by will be about 1 week :)

CoastalWave · 12/04/2022 10:12

Unvaxxed here. Had it twice. Had worse colds. Much worse. Everyone I know who's been super poorly has been vaccinated. Make of that what you will!

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/04/2022 10:15

adriftabroad

Surely you realise by now that vaxxed or not makes no difference? (If he is relatively young and healthy and not overweight)”

What a load of rubbish.

IEatChocolateForBreakfast · 12/04/2022 10:19

Let me clarify as I wasn't paying attention when I replied and didn't type it out very well (ADHD) - I meant unvaccinated people I know. During this wave. This is a different stand of the virus now. Not the original strand before the vaccines were available where obviously anyone who died was unvaccinated. So yes, throughout the whole pandemic of course more unvaccinated people faired worse than vaccinated. But in the last 6 months the vaccinated people I know and have spoken with that have had covid have had it far worse than the unvaccinated people I know and have spoken with.

Hope90x · 12/04/2022 10:58

Myself, DH, DM, DGP... All unvaxed. All of us have had COVID, including my 86 year old GM, all mild symptoms - worst of which was the fatigue.
Myself and DH have had it twice, similarly mild both times although due to my asthma my breathing was "tighter" first time around.

I still believe generally healthy people navigate their way through this virus very well whether they are vaxed or not. All of my work colleagues are triple vaxed and each of them described more severe symptoms than what i experienced.

Please do not worry, he may feel unpleasant for a few days but just keep an eye on his breathing and temp.

Hope90x · 12/04/2022 11:03

@Herejustforthisone

Why? 😅 because vaxed people don't catch it, spread it or become unwell?

I am unvaxed and escaped the first "office breakout". I was the only one able to continue working whilst my triple vaxed colleagues were all of sick - unable to WFH due to severity of symptoms.

I caught it second time around after 5 people had already gone off sick and it was so mild I was able to WFH. My colleagues have said they will have no more vaccines, it didn't prevent/lessen any part of the transmission, infection or symptoms.
