@BigWoollyJumpers important to also check throat as well as nose, even for nose only. I'd also be interested in which brands tend to pick up better.
On another note, new data out shows 2.3million now have long covid.

I get free tests as I qualify for treatment. I got covid last week and experimented with different tests. I always do throat even on nose only tests.
Tested with different tests on day 2 after a positive on day 1.
The strongest positive by far came from Flowflex tests. Instant dark red line.
All the other tests i have were unbranded from the same Chinese factory. I got a very faint line on one and negative on another.This was with a scrupulous swab of throat and nose.

RainStalksMyWashing · 06/10/2022 16:20

Thanks @Blix

containsnuts · 06/10/2022 16:54

@Blix

That's really interesting.

Perhapse I should change my official line from "never had covid" to "never tested positive". 🤔So odd especially with DCs at school surely we should have succumbed by now.

MargaretThursday · 06/10/2022 22:02

I haven't had covid either to my knowledge.

I do think I may have had it in early March 2020. Ds had a cough and a temperature for a day, then I had a cough and a temperature for a day. About a week later I commented that things were tasting funny, and everyone else eating them said they were fine. So I suspect that may have been covid.

However I haven't ever tested positive despite testing at least 2x a week while we could still get tests and now I test once a week (or if I'm feeling ill).

im not average then as evaded it despite working for an ambulance trust where its done the rounds and my DD having it twice. Im diabetic though so am glad ive avoided it

I may just have tempted fate. My DDs BF who lives with us, has just tested positive for COVID. He has had flu/cold symptoms for a couple of days, yesterday he was negative but had night nurse as he couldn't sleep, and today after work my DD suggested he test again as he is coughing and feeling rough, went straight to bed feeling awful and its a very clear positive.

I had my booster 6 days ago as I have NALD and diabetic, fingers cross it kicks in and protects me, not sure how long after having it, it should work though, if indeed it works at all.

@Jenasaurus

Good luck! Hope you avoid it.

When dd2 had it, I'd spent an hour in the car with her next to me the day before she tested positive and didn't catch it. Hopefully you'll be the same.

Oh thats reassuring, so not a done deal then. Actually my DD has had it in the past and no one else caught it :)

Not a done deal at all. My older daughter had it at uni. They were a house of 3 and she'd spent the evening before with a group of friends in a small room. As far as she knows she passed it onto no one. The university was insisting everyone tested (at their site and they checked the results) before doing anything at uni, so it wasn't even as though people weren't testing.

Another friend of mine, her husband caught it, she nursed him-he was quite ill. She didn't catch it. Then she caught it three weeks after he'd recovered goodness knows where from!

It does seem to have a thoroughly random element to it.

shifting momentarily from anecdote the latest health data for England

The ONS survey published today showed another upward move; although is tracking not much above this time last year - in terms of report publication date. Whether we reach a not too high peak towards end October then a slight easing remains to be seen.

deaths within 28 days of a positive test starting to edge up slightly - although, with a greater lag, deaths with C19 on the death cert, not quite reflecting that yet - next week should start to provide a better view.

back to anecdotes my DS2 and DS3 both back at their unis, both have briefly succumbed to freshers' flu, although neither are freshers. DS2 claims he could be classed as such as he's starting a masters. I don't think that counts though. Not sure if either took a C19 test. DS3 also quite under the weather a few weeks before heading off, sore throat, headache and did take several LFTs - all negative. No one else is the house picked up whatever it was he had thankfully.

boys3 · 07/10/2022 20:43

enough of that, disappointed with the extra slice dress code from a certain contestant as well, so back to data.

Hospital admissions in England continued to increase, although the seven day average percentage increase has slowed slightly; in contrast to that for the number in hospital.
