For anyone on Zoe - I wonder what's happening in London?

Gosh, nuts

Cornettoninja · 12/08/2022 07:39

@containsnuts - it’s the same line upwards in every region from what I can see, although some (West Midlands as an example) is showing very early signs of another fairly sharp dip back down.

overall estimates have slowed too.

I had a couple of days where I couldn't get the app to register my "health" and I wonder if that corresponded with the drop as people just didn't do it for a couple of days.
That seems more likely than every region having a sudden drop off followed by huge rise.

Cornettoninja · 12/08/2022 18:12

Ah balls Sad

HelloMist · 12/08/2022 21:58

@MargaretThursday I couldn't report for few days either (and stopped trying until today).

Omicron Booster

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-62548336

"Experiments on 437 people showed the updated vaccine was safe and gave better immune protection against newer variants".

I'm reading this wrong and they've tested it on more than 437 people surely?

Faciadipasta · 16/08/2022 08:10

Does anyone know whether it will only be available for boosters for those eligible to receive them? How about for kids receiving their first dose? I haven't had my age 7 DC vaxed as yet because it just seemed pointless. They have both had covid twice and not been particularly unwell. If it doesn't stop them catching or spreading it, just stops them becoming seriously ill and they don't anyway, what's the point? I was waiting in the hope that they might get the new one which might actually protect them from catching it at all.

JanglyBeads · 16/08/2022 08:18

No word yet on who'll get the bivalent (great word!) vaccine.

Vaccines still make them less likely to get it and less likely to pass it on.

Faciadipasta · 16/08/2022 10:32

@JanglyBeads yes I do understand that. Doesn't seem to be much of a difference though, and my thoughts were it would be better to wait for the newer one because young kids won't get a booster, so getting the old style will mean they won't get the new. Obviously if they won't get the new anyway then I'll probably go ahead and get them jabbed with the old one.

BeechFairy · 16/08/2022 16:21

JCVI statement on the new bivalent booster
@JanglyBeads it doesn't seem to be approved for under 18s if that answers your question?

The article I linked above states:

"Moderna thinks 13 million doses of its new vaccine will be available this year, but 26 million people are eligible for some form of booster.

Health officials say people should take whichever booster they are offered as all jabs provide protection".

So they don't know and possibly not many people will actually be able to access it. I'm guessing priority will be given to over 75s as with previous doses.

Hello data bods,
I thought some of you here might know.
Did the Great Barrington lot expect this many covid deaths (200,000 in the U.K., a million in the US etc) or were they just wrong? I got the impression their plan was to tuck the over 80s away and let it rip for a short while and then they expected covid to be over because we'd all have immunity. That would never have worked, would it?
