My daughter is booked in Wed for vaccine at GP , She's 14 and a county runner plus keen tennis player but since the Miami Opens this week she's refusing point blank .

Do i double down and remove games and Wi-Fi or let this go
Seriously any help would be appreciated

Why the fuck would you punish your child for not having a vaccine? Have you heard yourself?!

It's her choice. Nothing you can do about it. How would you feel if you forced her into it and she had a massive adverse reaction? Angry

Madferit · 03/04/2022 17:46

I can't believe you would even think of forcing her or punishing her for this. Unbelievable.

Isobelslider · 03/04/2022 17:47

@SausagePourHomme

Outrageous to punish her for exercising autonomy. Its her choice not to have it at this age. I believe in the vaccine but no one should be forced
This.

I'm choosing not to vaccinate my younger children. I'm triple jabbed but I'm also an adult who can make an informed risk assessment about a vaccine that has not undergone rigorous trials. We don't know enough about the long term side effects in kids for me to risk it.

DS1 has asthma and we've all had covid. He was ill for all of a day with it. It is not worth the risk IMO.

erinaceus · 03/04/2022 17:47

To react to someone who has been misinformed about the vaccine by punishing them by removing games and WiFi seems like an odd response. She's not naughty, as it were, to have made an ill-informed decision.

If you are able to, the suggestion to get her to talk to an HCP is a good one. At 14 she is of an appropriate age to have autonomy over something like this, so high-quality information for her is the best you can do.

doublemonkey · 03/04/2022 17:48

Good for her for refusing. She's probably already had Covid and if so will have far better protection than the vaccine can provide.

PAFMO · 03/04/2022 17:49

@MichelleScarn

How do you know she's 'scared by disinformation'? Op only says she's refused it?
Refused it since hearing the anti-vax bollocks after the Miami open food poisoning incidences.

Don't spread lies about vaccines. It's irresponsible. Previous infection PLUS vaccination offers the highest protection.

Sigh

Doesn't take long for these threads to descend into this kind of thing.

Vaccines & infection provide immunity. It is not an either/or. Immunity from vaccination has been shown to be more robust and reliable due to the standardised nature of innoculation.

There have been numerous studies now showing that in cohorts of people with a previous infection, those who are also vaccinated demonstrate better outcomes.

None of this means anyone should be vaccinated if they don't want to be, but this claim of "natural" immunity being better is false @doublemonkey

doublemonkey · 03/04/2022 17:57

There are numerous studies from Israel and from the CDC in the US which show natural immunity provides better protection that the vaccines.

Even if there weren't studies, it stands to reason that natural immunity would be better than a vaccine which wanes after a period of time.

PAFMO · 03/04/2022 17:58

Has she also been put off OP by the fact that her university age sister is apparently part of a large group of young women who have had no periods since their vaccine? (Your other post today)
FfS. At least try and hide the agenda before starting threads.

Your post makes no sense - immunity from infection also wanes over time - why on earth do you think it would be different from immunity from vaccination?
doublemonkey · 03/04/2022 18:01

We have no idea how long natural immunity to covid lasts. But it's definitely longer that 8 weeks.

Tryingtryingandtrying · 03/04/2022 18:01

Well done her. Would you pin her down if it came to it? Why are you so desperate for her to have it? What is the benefit to her?

felulageller · 03/04/2022 18:01

Her body her choice. Give her info bit don't coerce her.

stripeymadness · 03/04/2022 18:02

I find it interesting that the anti-vaccine posts are still so active even when all talk of vaccine mandates has been dropped, and there isn't currently not much in the way vaccine campaign programmes.

Generally misinformatio ebbs and flows in line with this

Don't get vaccinated if you don't want to folks, but make sure it's an informed decision and you're not being coerced by misinformation on the internet. This thread is full of it.

gogohm · 03/04/2022 18:02

Is there a particular reason why you want her vaccinated now (it's been available for 6 months) is it for a holiday? Entry somewhere? Or just because you want her to. It seems odd you waited 6 month, did you say negative things back then?

My kids went willingly as soon as eligible (over 18)

There is no evidence that immunity from vaccination only lasts 8 weeks @doublemonkey - again you're just repeating false claims.

The ONS reported that antibody levels start dropping at 8 weeks - this is not the same thing as no immunity.

CoffeeCappucino · 03/04/2022 18:04

Please don’t force her. Respect her decision. Provide the correct info and let her know how to go about getting a vaccine if she changes her mind in the future

stripeymadness · 03/04/2022 18:07

@Tryingtryingandtrying

The risks from COVID are very low for this age group, however it is clear now that are significant health benefits to teens of being vaccinated.

Doesn't mean she should have it and I certainly wouldn't be panicking if my teen turned it down, but there's a reason health authorities (globally, not just the UK) recommend it.

doublemonkey · 03/04/2022 18:07

Here's the fab John Campbell with data on natural immunity.

People should watch for themselves and decide..

Dancer47 · 03/04/2022 18:09

She's a 14 year old athlete and she does not want the injection. That is her choice and to coerce her by threat of punishment is wrong.

Awrite · 03/04/2022 18:09

I really hope she continues to stand up to you.

I had no idea parents were forcing their children into taking vaccines they don't need.

There is an entire thread dedicated to explaining why John Campbell is a biased and inaccurate source (with specific examples) @doublemonkey

I'm not sure why you insist on continuing to advertise him and generate yet more revenue for him
