Can Covid start slowly?

My DD10 is currently at home on day 7 of Covid, still testing strongly positive but symptoms pretty much gone.

I've been cooped up at home with her pretty much the whole time.

I've been doing LFT daily and all negative, but for the past few days I've had a mild sore throat and on/off mild sinusy headache, stuffy nose and watery eyes. Very mild symptoms, barely symptoms at all.

I'm wondering whether this is my body trying to fight off the Covid virus (and succeeding so far), or whether I have contracted Covid and it's just starting gradually.

I know no one can really tell me what's going on inside my body, but has anyone else experienced this, and which way has it gone?

I am in the exact same place as you right now. I have a sore throat. I think I might have other symptoms now too but they are so mild it's hardly noticeable. My only issue is a sore throat.

I am negative on lft.

I am wondering the same thing.

Somsun · 17/03/2022 12:35

I have the exact same thing going on, I didn’t consider it might be that my immune system is fighting it off so that’s why I’m not testing positive.

EatYourFive · 17/03/2022 12:35

I had this last week after both kids got covid. Started feeling off from around Wednesday onwards, slightly sore throat, stuffy nose, hoarse voice, very itchy and red eyes etc. Tested daily, including one PCR, all negative. Then on Monday morning got a really clear positive. Was looking after a very poorly DD2 over the weekend, including coughs and sneezes on my face, so think the viral load I received was too much in the end.

dgirluk · 17/03/2022 12:42

Similar here - started with fatigue (early nights, not anything more than that), sore throat, sniffles, sneezes, bit of a headache. That was on the Wednesday. Took until the Monday to test +ve, then started feeling much more ill from the Tuesday. So took a week to "get going" (assuming the previous symptoms were early covid of course)

BlackInk · 17/03/2022 12:49

Hmmm, sorry you're all in / have been in a similar position. I was hoping my mild niggles might either be in my head, caused by the daily swabbing or just feeling grotty from barely leaving the house for a week!
Only time will tell...

Would be very interesting to see how this plays out OP, if you don't mind updating in a day or so?

JustPickleRick · 17/03/2022 13:01

I started feeling rubbish on the Monday, didn't test positive until the Sunday! 6 whole days of feeling 'not myself'. I tested on the Thursday and Saturday and they were both negative so I think it was a slow increase of virus in my system making me feel rubbish. Headache and low energy etc.
I'm currently on day 4, will test again tomorrow.

Hartleyhare1206 · 17/03/2022 13:08

I’m in exactly the same boat on day 5 of DD coughing directly in to my eyeballs. LFTs all negative and PCR too, but no denying something is going on behind the scenes as it were. It took my DD 9 days from playing with her positive friend to test positive herself and during the week leading up to her positive result was constantly pale and clearing her throat and tired. Negative LFT every day for 7 days but dipped a bit on day 9
So I tested again and she was instantly positive.

LivingInaBuildingSite · 17/03/2022 13:14

I would say I was the same, but quicker progress.

Monday - very slight sniffle/runny nose - negative LFT
Tuesday - bit worse, slight sore throat, phlegmy, itchy eyes - negative LFT
Wednesday - gradually got worse throughout the day until I would say I felt rough, light headed, teary eyes, not really with it - negative LFT.
Went to bed after work. Then booked a pcr.
Today - pcr result came back as positive.
Actually feel a bit better today but have stayed in bed mostly. Cough, runny nose, headache.
Vvvv faint line on an LFT.

busyeatingbiscuits · 17/03/2022 13:18

I’m exactly the same - dh & dc all positive, I’ve had very mild headache, sore throat, stuffy nose since Saturday but negative lft everyday.

MsTSwift · 17/03/2022 13:23

I was same mild cold symptoms for about 3 days all negative lft then bam strong positive and within a few hours if that test felt horrendous- so might be matter of time

BlackInk · 17/03/2022 13:50

I'm definitely not feeling worse day by day, everything comes and goes. I'll keep you all posted.

To be honest, I get this with common colds too. I can feel like I'm getting a cold for a week or two before the feeling either goes away or a cold arrives. It could go either way!

Oh dear, sounds like how i started with covid - Saturday didn't feel right (but had a couple of glasses of wine on Friday night and put it down to that), Sunday felt really tired and then had a sore throat. Tested negative Sunday night and neg again Monday morning so went to work. Still had a bad sore throat and sinus pain Monday and put it down to hay-fever. Monday night tested again and negative. Tuesday got up for work, felt like my throat was on fire and then was coughing in the shower. Tested again and positive.

PickAChew · 17/03/2022 14:01

I was the same. Took a week to test positive after dh and Ds2 first showed symptoms but had increasing niggles, along the way, including new tinnitus and then a full on sore throat for 2 days.

Hullabaloo31 · 17/03/2022 16:57

Same here. Had daughter at home with it, felt headachy all day Thurs, headachy and couldn't taste stuff Fri, only got the faintest LFT Sat PM.

Son then came home from school Mon with a headache and fell asleep at 4:30pm on the sofa, pale and not eating a lot right through til he got the faintest line on Weds morning. (He'd been doing lfts daily to go to school due to his sister).

My daughter and DH both went straight in with dark, dark tests!

SummersBreeze · 17/03/2022 19:48

My temperature is borderong on fever now. It's 37.9.

Longcovid21 · 17/03/2022 19:51

Yes. For me it seems to have built up over a couple of weeks. Fatigue, chills, cough and now full blown positive test.

LePetitPont · 17/03/2022 19:57

Also watching with interest! DS5 tested positive on Sunday, DH tested positive on Monday (faint line) and DS7 on Tuesday. I’ve been headachey and with a stuffy nose and shattered - many negative tests - but feeling better today so also thinking my immune system has fought it off?

changenametimeagain · 17/03/2022 20:06

Another one in the same boat.

Young DD has (thankfully) had it very mildly after contracting it from preschool. First faint line last Sat, very mild symptoms this week. Not tried to isolate whatsoever so we are together a lot and have also had a few face-coughs. Over the last few days the lines are getting fainter.

My PCR from yesterday is negative as are any LFTs me and DH do. I had a sore throat two days ago but it's gone, also felt tired but I've been worrying so not sleeping well, plus DD had woken me a few times overnight.

Will also update if it turns into covid!

SummersBreeze · 17/03/2022 20:15

I have a tickle at the back of my throat and there is a slight covid here and there. The cough has come on quickly. It's mild.

I only have one more test. Should I use it now tonight or wait til tomorrow morning?

Will I presume this is covid now?

Covidinthehouse · 17/03/2022 20:25

Just wondering the same! DD 2 tested positive at start of week and was quite poorly for 48 hours, she’s thankfully bounced back now.

Ive been testing daily and felt really tired today, couldn’t keep eyes open and ive got a faint line. Just taken a couple of nurofen for a headache too. But all very mild. Wouldn’t have tested if covid hadn’t landed in the house.

Just wondering if this is it or is it about to get worse?! Confused

Jules912 · 17/03/2022 20:29

Tomorrow, or just get a PCR if you're coughing. I started coughing Saturday afternoon, LFT and PCR were negative, got a faint positive on LFT Sunday morning.
SummersBreeze · 17/03/2022 20:37

Thanks Jules I will spare my test for the morning and I will consider a PCR over the weekend.

bibbidybobbidyboo · 17/03/2022 21:02

I had the exact same thing, was isolating with my positive DP for 6 days (some of which he was quite unwell) while I was testing negative and only had a headache/sore throat and very mild cough. Tested positive on the 7th day.

SummersBreeze · 18/03/2022 10:46

My symptoms progressed today into more of a heavy cold. I am still testing negative even though I had a close contact last week.
