I can’t take her to her friends party can I?

7 year old DD.

Has a cold I think.

No temperature, negative LFT, slight cough but she is asthmatic. Very snotty.

She’s fine in herself, eating and drinking fine, but very very snotty, blowing her nose and sneezing a lot. She’s been to school today but was sent home after lunch due to the snotty nose, told to test her.

She’s had covid over Christmas and was really ill with it, ended up in hospital for 48 hours and has only just gone back to school full time (since half term). She’s also only just returned to her activities and is still on medication due to effects of covid.

I can’t take her to her friends party tomorrow can I? Sad She’s so excited and so desperate to go but I don’t think the other parents would appreciate it. Yet again her poor immune system means she’s missing out.

Just moaning as it always seems to be when she’s looking forward to something she gets ill. She missed a school trip last half term due to her recovering from covid, and she loves her activities as well and her friends.

But I’ll do the right thing.

Have you taken her for a PCR yet? The turn around is usually less than 24 hours. It might be back in time.

ramonaquimby · 04/03/2022 18:18

Even if she doesn’t have covid she’s still not well, she can’t go to party. Hope she’s feeling better soon

@Duracellbunnywannabe I don't have a car, so have always done postal PCRs, but she only came up postive on LFTs last time not PCRs

@ramonaquimby She's absolutely fine in herself, pre-covid I'd have carried on as she's always getting something. She's not even tired like she is when she has a cold normally, she's just very snotty.

@Duracellbunnywannabe The website says she's not eligble for a PCR as she doesn't have any of the symptoms. She has a slight cough and by slight I mean she's cough maybe once or twice every few hours, she's not cough continuously.

I'll ring 119 though and see what they say.

Yeah but parents just see a snotty kid and might not be very happy. She might feel loads better tomorrow though. Poor kiddo has been through a lot hasn’t she

Reluctantadult · 04/03/2022 18:23

To be honest on the basis of a negative lft and her being just snotty i would take her. Provided the other parents were OK with it.

Coughing once or twice every hour is a continuous cough.

@ramonaquimby Thats why I will stay away because of the other parents, even today her headteacher said she doesn't think DD has covid but has to send home as she's sending any child who may have it home.

She's a little trooper and kept smiling through it all, she'll be so gutted to miss the party but I will make it up to her.

119 stick to the same 3 symptoms.
Covid has more than those 3 symptoms.
The ‘half of all colds are Covid’ were based on figures in Dec, they updated that a little while after to 75%.

I can’t take her to her friends party can I?

MissingOutAgain · 04/03/2022 18:26

@Duracellbunnywannabe once or twice every few hours and she's asthmatic so often gets a bit of a cough just from a bit of cold air getting into her lungs.

She didn't have a cough until 3 weeks after she'd had covid. Her main symptom was high temperature and a high heart rate.

I’d ask the birthday child’s parents. Explain she’s negative on LFT and had Covid at Christmas and let them decide if they’re happy for her to come.

@Isgooglebroken The only symptom on the second one that DD had was a fever. Her other main symptom was a high Heart Rate which is why she got admitted to hospital. She didn't have any of the others when she had covid.

The cough came 3 weeks later.

Honestly just repeat LFT an hour before you go and if it's negative then take her.
You've done what your can. School are only requiring pcr as it's policy. It's no longer even gov law to isolate if you DO have it (barmily). I wouldn't let her miss out on anything else she doesn't need to miss after her awful experience in defence

BogRollBOGOF · 04/03/2022 18:48

If it's the same cohort at the party and school they've already been exposed to the cold anyway.
If it's testing clear I'd send her.

@BogRollBOGOF Yes it's a school friends party, only a few from the class invited as well, so DD not going will be noticed.

@YukoandHiro School only asked for an LFT and said if it was negative she could come back on Monday as long as she's well enough. They sent home to test due to policy, not because the headteacher thought she was really ill.

100% this! Your DD doesn't have covid but for the sake of others you can double, triple, quadruple check with LFTS before you go if you want too. Regardless of what other parents think of her going to a party after being sent home, your DD will be mixing with their dc on Monday anyway when she returns to school whether they like it or not. Send her too the party, this time of year when the whether changes always plays havoc for asthmatics, others need to remember that people coughed often long before covid and will continue to do so until every respiratory illness is eradicated never
SNUG2022 · 04/03/2022 19:04

I'd have done an lft in the school carpark and sent her back in. She's still within 90 days of last case of covid.

I'd lft before party and send her in. She doesn't need to miss out.

TyrannosaurusRegina · 04/03/2022 19:14

No, she can't. But buy in her favourite snacks, stick on a movie she loves and have a cosy day in. Shame.

MissingOutAgain · 04/03/2022 19:42

She's going to her dads after the party, so I'll have to make it up to her after the weekend.

Both my kids have been in school & nursery this week with stinking colds & very minor coughs (mostly snot clearing as opposed to actual coughing fits). School not nursery have said anything 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’ve lateral flowed, that’s good enough at this stage, you don’t even have to isolate even if you have covid anymore! Dd1 one went to a party last weekend where 80% of the kids were snotty & sneezing. It’s pretty typical of this time of year and no-one batted an eyelid. I certainly wouldn’t care if your DD was at a party with my kid 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’d assume you’d probably LF’d and not assume every sniffle I hear is covid..

Zolla · 04/03/2022 19:53

*school nor nursery

ZenNudist · 04/03/2022 19:58

I'd just send her. Negative LFT. It's a cold FGS.

@Zolla I think the cough is likely to be her clearing her throat more than anything, or as the temperature keeps being either freezing or quite warm the change in temperature.
