Now mandatory isolation has ended, will you isolate if you know you're positive?

Yes or no?

For myself, yes (I'm CEV so will qualify for free symptomatic testing). While I have LFTs left I'd also stay home for a few days if asymptomatic and positive, and reschedule any appointments/outings etc.

Absolutely no judgement from me whatever you choose, I'm just curious!

Yes. WTH wouldn’t you?
Because you wouldn't get paid....simple as that“

Yes. You’re right.

Without testing I am unlikely to know if what I have is a cold or covid. So I imagine I'd treat them the same. If I'm quite sick I stay home but I don't usually for a cold, I have a child in her first year at school colds are ubiquitous.

LangClegsInSpace · 24/02/2022 22:25

Yes, but I have the luxury or not being in a min wage shit job where my employer is pressuring me to turn up for my shift regardless of risk to my colleagues and customers.

BurningTheClocks · 24/02/2022 22:35
@Snowdropsarelovely I work in a school and the head said today that we are still required to isolate but for 5 days if covid positive. The same applies to the children. Also the adults in school have been told to continue testing twice a week in line with what our academy trust advises.
I was wondering what schools would do about staff testing positive.
It’s cost them an absolute fortune in supply cover and no extra funding from the government for it.
So am I going to continue my hopscotching from one school to the next as I cover 5 day absences? Or will they stop bothering?
As for being positive, how will I know? As I won’t pay for tests if I don’t have to. Especially not at £5-£6 a time.

Scottishskifun · 24/02/2022 23:14

It's never been a legal requirement in Scotland (they did keep this pretty quiet though!)
We would do half and half if positive again, we wouldn't see anyone or go to the shops but would take toddler DS and the dog for walks to places where we know we wouldn't see anyone if we are feeling ok (we live rurally).
As we have done multiple isolations with them both and it's a nightmare!

waterlego · 24/02/2022 23:17

@BuddhaForMary

Well I can't afford tests so no, we won't be testing and only staying at him if very ill as I can't afford to lose work. Sorry if that doesn't please some folks but that's the reality for millions of us.
Same here.
ExcuseeeeMe · 24/02/2022 23:44

@ItsSnowJokes

Yes cos I'm not a selfish wanker.
If wanting to feed your children makes me a selfish wanker . I’m all for it .
Vargas · 24/02/2022 23:49

Yes. But it's easy for me to WFH.

ExcuseeeeMe · 24/02/2022 23:50

@merrymelodies

I can't believe how selfish some people are. Sad
Yes some people are actually so selfish to judge others for not being able to afford to take a week off work unpaid .
slaybell · 24/02/2022 23:56

If I am well then no.

But I've had covid twice and both times been on my arse until after the isolation stage ended anyway so it's a moot point for me.

slaybell · 24/02/2022 23:57

So won't be testing so wouldn't know anyway

merrymelodies · 25/02/2022 04:55

@ExcuseeeeMe You didn't see my update a few minutes later saying that the "people" I'm referring to are the members of the UK government who came up with, and have implemented, this nonsensical plan?

Suzi888 · 25/02/2022 05:03

Yes I would. If I felt well I can wfh, if I couldn’t I get full pay. If I didn’t get paid and had no savings/needed to buy essentials I may have to make a different call.

We isolated when DD had covid- I don’t want to be responsible for knowingly passing on something which could kill someone. We are fortunate though.

People haven’t always isolated in any case, the only place they isolated from was work so they could claim the £750 grant when they lost on occasion - £20 (in Wales). Not to mention the fraud that took place. We will be paying for this for years!!!!!

Underhisi · 25/02/2022 06:03

No
But I would avoid other people. We have never done full self isolating because it is isn't possible with ds ( not without putting us all at risk of harm) so have always gone out for walks and car rides and will continue to do the same. When testing stops we won't know anyway.

Hollyhead · 25/02/2022 06:11

Yes and no - I would stay away from busy places etc, but I might go out for a quiet walk or drop the children off at school (staying away from others). We’ve just had covid, and it was extremely mild for all of us though so I’m not sure I would even notice if I had it again - only found it because we looked for it.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/02/2022 07:26

No I won't if I'm well enough to work, because I can't work from home and can't afford continued periods of isolation.

Winederlust · 25/02/2022 07:59

Sounds to me as though most people will be taking sensible precautions when they are actually ill (as they no doubt would have done for any other illness pre-covid), but have no reason to if they're asymptomatic as how would they know?
We don't need the govt to dictate every element of our lives for us. We're all grown ups, we can work it out for ourselves.

megletthesecond · 25/02/2022 08:03

Yes.
I'll wfh and not go to any shops. I'll just go for walks.

curlymom · 25/02/2022 08:08

I am a teacher and wait to hear the policy in my work place. I have covid and pretty sick all week so no way could I have worked had it not been half term. Many teachers are CEV or older so I don’t think they could do it anyway. Time will tell

lucylucyapplejuicy · 25/02/2022 08:10

This depends as I'd only test in future if I felt really really unwell. Any sore throats, cough etc il be carrying on now, can't afford time off work and the kids have missed out on so much

GeneLovesJezebel · 25/02/2022 08:12

I depends on how ill I am. Personally I’ll be treating it like a cold/flu.

candycane222 · 25/02/2022 08:13

Yes. Luckily for everyone else, I can afford to.

QuirkyTurtle · 25/02/2022 08:16

Definitely. I won't willingly subject people to a potentially fatal illness, even if it's not affecting me.

But I work from home so it wouldn't affect my job. I can't blame people for not isolating if their job was on the line or they wouldn't get paid.

CovidCorvid · 25/02/2022 08:19

No. Mainly because I won’t know if I have it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m not paying for an lft every time I get a sniffle

Piggy42 · 25/02/2022 08:31

I won’t pay for tears, so I won’t know. If I felt ill, I’d stay at home, like any other illness.
