Now mandatory isolation has ended, will you isolate if you know you're positive?

Yes or no?

For myself, yes (I'm CEV so will qualify for free symptomatic testing). While I have LFTs left I'd also stay home for a few days if asymptomatic and positive, and reschedule any appointments/outings etc.

Absolutely no judgement from me whatever you choose, I'm just curious!

Do we still have to do pcrs for symptoms? Now we don't have to lft, I wouldn't know if I had it. So sick of pcrs. My 3 year old has done 9.

Tynetime · 24/02/2022 20:31

Yes

BigPurpleEgg · 24/02/2022 20:36

I wont be testing once you have to pay for them. Weve all had it, were all up to date with jabs. Constantly getting colds from school and nursery and no chance I will afford constant tests, barely keeping our heads above water as it is

Getoutofbed25 · 24/02/2022 20:56

It’s really tough to decide and depends on what public health, workplaces, schools and childcare settings say regarding isolation. It’s financially tough at the moment and families can do without a loss of income and job insecurity when they are well and able to work/attend school. It’s a horrible dilemma for people.

2X4B523P · 24/02/2022 21:22

Aside from the fact I’ve no intention of testing I won’t know either way to be sure. But if I did then it would depend how I felt, if asymptomatic or very mild then I would be a selfish wanker so that I could pay my bills.

Chattycatty · 24/02/2022 21:24

I would but I know as soon as possible my work will go back to no pay for the first 3 days off and I can't afford to lose pay as a single mother 😑

merrymelodies · 24/02/2022 21:25

I can't believe how selfish some people are. Sad

DearlyBeloathed · 24/02/2022 21:29

I can't believe how selfish some people are. Sad
Yeah, how dare they want to keep a roof over their heads!
merrymelodies · 24/02/2022 21:32

@DearlyBeloathed Sorry - I should have been clearer. I was referring to the government.

BuddhaForMary · 24/02/2022 21:34

Well I can't afford tests so no, we won't be testing and only staying at him if very ill as I can't afford to lose work. Sorry if that doesn't please some folks but that's the reality for millions of us.

gamerchick · 24/02/2022 21:39

@Iusedtobeasister

No. Not because I’m a selfish wanker but because if I’m well enough to go to work I have to. I don’t get paid for sickness
This. There's nothing much else to say. Up to now we've been able to use AL for covid stuff. I doubt that'll continue.

Happy to wear a mask though.

CharacterForming · 24/02/2022 21:43

I'm on the ONS panel so I probably would know if I got Covid again. I assume that my employers would be happy for me to WFH for a week or so, and I'd stay away from indoor venues, get my food delivered and do the school run on foot instead of by bus, but I would go out for walks or maybe drive to a local park.

CallMeNutribullet · 24/02/2022 21:44

If I have to nip to the shops or something I will but will wear a mask and stay away from everyone. I won't socialise unnecessarily.

If we have to go back to the office I'll guage how work deals with that kind of sickness.

Katieandthekids · 24/02/2022 21:44

Yes. As I would and always have done with flu, bad colds, tummy bugs, chicken pox etc etc as should everyone when it is feasible for them to do so.

Snowdropsarelovely · 24/02/2022 21:47

I'm a teacher, have been told to go to work if I have covid. In fact we have a member of staff who is on day three and returned today. Understandably there's lots of anxieties. I understand why we are doing it, we are so shortstaffed and there are no supply available but it somehow feels very irresponsible to be spreading it around the school environment.

Cookiecrisps · 24/02/2022 21:52

@Snowdropsarelovely I work in a school and the head said today that we are still required to isolate but for 5 days if covid positive. The same applies to the children. Also the adults in school have been told to continue testing twice a week in line with what our academy trust advises.

Oysterbabe · 24/02/2022 21:55

I won't be testing so I won't know if I'm positive. I'll be carrying on as I did before all this.

konasana · 24/02/2022 21:56

I'm just going to continue to avoid socialising or going into work if I feel unwell, and won't bother testing if I am asymptomatic.

Cherrysherbet · 24/02/2022 21:57

If I have streaming symptoms, and too sick to work, then I’ll stay home.

If I’m well enough to be at work, then I know my boss will expect me in, 100%!
Things are changing now. We have no safety net. People have to pay their bills. Not everyone is able to WFH.

We just need to get on with it.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 24/02/2022 21:58

I suppose it depends on how the isolating would affect my family as they are my priority above anything else. I dont get sick pay ssp from day 5 so if i had any AL to take maybe I would but if not and I couldn't afford to miss the wages then I'll be going in if I felt well enough.
It is not selfish to sacrifice your own families basic needs for the benefit of wider society, those who like to spin the "selfish wanker" lines have no grip on the realities of the lives of the regular working class family and their comments should be subsequently ignored.

Louisianagumbo · 24/02/2022 22:00

Yes, I'd isolate. But I also think that in the future if I get a cold or flu or any virus, I'd isolate. I wouldn't have in the past, but I think covid has taught me to be a bit more considerate to other people.

holdyourheadupyousillygirl · 24/02/2022 22:07

I have it just now. I'm on day 5 and still showing a strong LFT positive.
I'm coughing and generally manky
.
I can't get over the fact that if I were in England, I would be allowed to go about my business suit and about from today.

Since I'm in Scotland, I'm still staying home, awaiting 2 consecutive day's worth of -ve or day 10 as out guidance advises.

My DH has today also tested positive so potentially I can take his germs out soon too

I know we have to live with it like we live with other infectious diseases but today's change of law is almost as though we've learned nothing from the impact of a pandemic.

MrsSkylerWhite · 24/02/2022 22:08

Yes. WTH wouldn’t you?

mummabubs · 24/02/2022 22:13

@Yeahbutnotreally

Yes.

Reading all the other threads, and seeing that the majority of posters won’t, is terrifying when you have a CEV loved one and work in a public facing role Sad

Yup, this. My mum was diagnosed with an autonimmune disorder in February 2020 and was in hospital for a week, really ill. Less than a month later covid hit and we were all in lockdown. I work in the NHS so can't avoid mixing with people and it worries me that I'm now going to be even more of a risk when I see her (which I've already limited to once every 4-6 weeks). A lot of the people I know in real life who have adopted the view that they don't need to isolate and that restrictions need to go are all privileged to not have a cev loved one. My SiL even said "oh well, I guess vulnerable people will just need to keep shielding, but the rest of us need to get on with living". I despair. 🤦🏻‍♀️
Wellbythebloodyhell · 24/02/2022 22:19

@MrsSkylerWhite

Yes. WTH wouldn’t you?
Because you wouldn't get paid....simple as that
