End of isolation

Boris Johnson has indicated the requirement to isolate after a positive Covid test will be scrapped at the end of this month. All I can say is about time too! Let's get back to life.

It will be a relief not to get that dread when one of your kids sneezes or coughs but I'll still be nervous seeing my parents

Aposterhasnoname · 09/02/2022 13:09

@Figgygal

Great So now if you have it you can just carry on without concern for who you may give it to Fuck the vulnerable Fucking Tory Britain
Did you miss the part that said we are following what other countries are doing?
jowly · 09/02/2022 13:09

Very sensible plan. Excellent news

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 09/02/2022 13:09

Good.

HelloMist · 09/02/2022 13:10

I think the shorter isolation periods were a help but don't agree with none at all happening this quickly. Cases seem to be decreasing but part of it is less testing or reporting of results (& high numbers in children who are less likely to be tested, as shown by the ONS survey).

We will see more spread in schools (risking long term health effects for some of the children catching it, plus ill parents, grandparents and teachers, some of whom might be at high risk).

More pressure on the NHS from constantly higher case rates. And probably employers being less understanding if you need time off when you have Covid and aren't well enough to work.

Wonderful news.

There should be advice for those who are vulnerable and how they manage themselves going forward, but, luckily they will have all been vaccinated so they are at a greatly reduced risk of anything serious. 3 vaccines should make them feel more confident along with cases reducing everyday.

After you.

Who are the 300 odd dying daily then?
RedCandyApple · 09/02/2022 13:11

Good I am pleased with this news

Pootle40 · 09/02/2022 13:13

@LethargeMarg many are individuals with other terminal conditions or who are extremely frail/elderly who also happen to have Covid. They're not all dying because of Covid.

LethargeMarg · 09/02/2022 13:13

No but they're clearly vulnerable - I think it's a bit much to say they're fine cos they've had three vaccines

LethargeMarg · 09/02/2022 13:15

Personally life will be easier with no isolation for me but it's going to be terrifying and isolating for the vulnerable in society

DoctorSnortles · 09/02/2022 13:16

Fucking marvellous. Schools will continue to be great fun to work in. All the folk who talk about how 'the poor children have suffered enough' let's see how you like it when teaching staff drop like flies and your precious moppets are back to remote learning.

ItsSnowJokes · 09/02/2022 13:17

Let's see how many people who get seriously ill from something other than covid feel when their heathcare professionals are treating them with covid, no ppe etc....... I wouldn't want me or a loved one of mine to be having surgery or chemo with a covid positive Dr would you? Midwife delivering your baby is covid positive would you care?

You or a loved one may not be vulnerable now but who knows what the future holds?

StarCat2020 · 09/02/2022 13:17

Poor NHS staff

After you.
Nah, I’m staying thanks. Bloody delighted by this news.
Delatron · 09/02/2022 13:20

Teachers won’t get it over and over again. Most people I know have had it recently. Including my elderly Mum who was fine and didn’t give it to my Dad.

Omicron hasn’t caused the carnage predicted. Even many vulnerable people are getting a mild illness.

Now if they could just stop reporting daily cases/deaths.

People die of other things. It’s not all about Covid.

Other countries are doing the same.

Tillyloveslettuce · 09/02/2022 13:20

This isn’t like just ‘all’ infections though - it’s much more contagious. And those saying schools will stabilise, why on earth do you think that? The teachers will still get sick and whilst kids fortunately might not get that sick education staff still can. I’m triple vaxxed and currently off sick with covid, struggling with my asthma and no way I could be in class teaching right now. All of my colleagues who’ve been off this term have been rough too. All this has done has convinced me that I need to resign. I’ve risked my health for others for the past two years and frankly, you don’t deserve it.

Whatdramain2022 · 09/02/2022 13:22

I think restrictions have all but gone anyway. I had a nasty accident. Taken by ambulance to A&E. No mention of Covid. No enforcement of wearing masks. Crowded into a small waiting area. I counted 50 people at any one time. People were coughing and sneezing everywhere. I now have Covid having avoided it for two years. Triple jabbed. I waited seven hours to see a doctor. Apart from the car park having been turned into an unused Nightingale hospital, all rules had completely gone.

Aposterhasnoname · 09/02/2022 13:22

Who are the 300 odd dying daily then?

Deaths have only exceeded 300 in a single day once since last February. Date reported, and date of death are not the same thing.

DoctorSnortles · 09/02/2022 13:24

'Teachers won't get it over and over again.'

How do you know this? Do teachers have some sort of Covid-repelling superpowers? I haven't seen any evidence of this in my working life so far and plenty of anecdotal evidence to the contrary.

Veryvversatile · 09/02/2022 13:24

@LethargeMarg perhaps have a look at ONS. Perhaps the stats will present some clarity. Individuals who are 80+ who more than likely have co morbidities are probably where the numbers are coming from. I have not checked myself though, so please correct me if I am wrong. The way Covid deaths have been/are being counted also should be taken into consideration.

What would you rather happen now? I do not want to dismiss the fears of others, but what's the alternative?

DoctorSnortles · 09/02/2022 13:25

@Tillyloveslettuce I absolutely agree with your final sentence.

Blubells · 09/02/2022 13:26

Do teachers have some sort of Covid-repelling superpowers?

No but they have an immune system as well as the option to get vaccinated!
