End of isolation

Boris Johnson has indicated the requirement to isolate after a positive Covid test will be scrapped at the end of this month. All I can say is about time too! Let's get back to life.

@Veryvversatile

Wonderful news.

There should be advice for those who are vulnerable and how they manage themselves going forward, but, luckily they will have all been vaccinated so they are at a greatly reduced risk of anything serious. 3 vaccines should make them feel more confident along with cases reducing everyday.

Do remember though that for many of us CEV folk, the vaccines don’t have any effect, that’s one of the reasons we are vulnerable. After two jabs and two boosters I am still as at risk as before I had any jabs as body still isn’t producing antibodies.

If people were all just sensible and stayed at home when ill, with anything not just Covid, I would be a lot more sanguine about all this. As it is CEV people are facing having to shield indefinitely or risk serious illness every time they leave the house, and not because of Covid, but because of all the people who just don’t think. It was the same before Covid too, the pandemic just highlighted it. Me personally I get out there and get on with life, but I know a few people who have effectively become hermits as they are so frightened.

@Figgygal

Great So now if you have it you can just carry on without concern for who you may give it to Fuck the vulnerable Fucking Tory Britain
Yep, what a bloody horrible place we live in
CarrieBlue · 09/02/2022 14:28

@Blubells

I wonder why Boris has announced this earlier than expected?

Because cases are dropping and hospitals are coping! We don't want to isolate people any longer than absolutely necessary.

Is that you Jacob?
rambleonplease · 09/02/2022 14:29

@MrsJaxTellerPlease

And typically I've caught it in the last two weeks!!!
Ha ha me too!!

@StarCat2020

Wrong 21-01-2022 - 307
Sorry - 'this is true' referred to daily figures not reflecting people who had actually died on a specific date. However, still broadly correct unless you found many more? I've read (on the data threads, I think) that there has been just one date since Feb '21 when deaths went above 300 per day (by date of death) - obviously all still sad losses, that goes without saying - looks like you found it, unless there are more?
Blubells · 09/02/2022 14:33

Also why should your health condition dictate your ability to do a job?

Of course it does. Lots of jobs require physical strength or the ability to hear well or having strong fine motor skills etc etc

People generally choose jobs that suit their ability and health conditions. That's how an economy works - division of labour.

@CheeseKing

For goodness sake. Must every thread turn into a woe is me teacher crying fest on this site.

Never heard any other profession moan as much.

I agree. Teachers really had the opportunity to shine in this pandemic, stepping up to their calling and educating a nation's next generation through remote learning in unprecedented circumstances.

Instead the self pity has been done to death and people have lost patience with a whole sector who are no worse off than any other 'front liners'.

@ItsSnowJokes

I also wonder if a lot of countries will now treat us as lepers and not want us to come in with no restrictions or testing in England?
Doubt it. Other countries are following suit.

My God the rage of the zero covid bunch is something to behold. Y’all want to be careful, high blood pressure is one of those pre existing conditions they warn us about.

Apologies @StarCat2020 one day in 11 months (previous was 21/02)

What treeflowercat was saying is that tracks with the peaks in late December/Early Jan which was where the cases peaked so it is unlikely to track over again

@helpfulperson

And of course this has nothing to do with trying to draw attention away from partygate.
Oh it almost certainly does. Fuck knows what they'll do as a distraction technique for the next photo that gets leaked.

But it was going this way anyway, and I don't think I'm being particularly controversial in pointing out that the isolation requirements are hardly being universally adhered to as things stand. We can and should remove financial barriers to isolation, which would've led to higher compliance... but it's also true that lots of people are just plain not buying into it anymore. So I wonder how significant this will actually be.

Okay this is true but many people develop conditions that cause them to become immunocompromised long after they have gone into teaching. And we cannot afford to lose them in a recruitment crisis. Nor should we have to. We can make schools safe for them and everyone else but we aren't being supported to do so. This is the issue.
