Day 5/6 Release

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 01/02/2022 23:20

This has probably been asked tons of times before, but i scanned through and couldn't see a recent thread.
Has anyone actually tested negative on day 5 & 6?
Does the line gradually get feinter or is it here today gone tomorrow?

DD1 symptoms (in hindsight) last thurs, tested positive fri - very strong, line came up in less than 2 mins.
Felt fine since saturday, but day 5 test today was still strong positive, almost immediate.
She's desperate to play basketball tournament on Thurs but it seems so unlikely....
tbh i'm more focussed on DD2 and I staying negative but she had it just pre christmas so missed all her parties etc and is year 6 so last ones and is so bored with me working from home.

Any positive stories to give me hope?

I tested positive last Wednesday, so I’m on Day 8 I think. My test yesterday was still as strong and dark as it was last Wednesday. I’ll test again when I get up but I don’t expect much difference.

I didn’t test negative until day 12. Took a couple of days of faints before getting a negative.

DS2 is currently on day 9 and had a blazing positive yesterday still.

DS1 only had one day of positives, but he caught again 3 months after first infection so had it very mild (that’s what I am putting it down to anyway!)

CeeceeBloomingdale · 02/02/2022 07:38

My DD tested negative on day 4 (this was before the early release so were just doing it out of interest to see what happened while she isolated). Hers dropped from dark line to nothing overnight. DH tested to release recently and his was gradually fading lines.

carrieeee · 02/02/2022 07:39

I tested negative day 7, strong positive on day6, day 7 it was gone. Same with my daughters and husband

INeedtobealone · 02/02/2022 07:42

Both DS and dh have tested negative on days 5 and 6 this week.

DHs test was a very strong positive on day 4, then Day 5 completely negative. We were quite surprised and re did it as we assumed it was a mistake but no. DS was asymptomatic so not sure how long he'd really been positive for.

GetTheGoodLookingGuy · 02/02/2022 07:48

I started symptoms on Friday but didn't test positive until Monday (very faint positive). Today is Day 5 but my test was a strong positive after only a couple of minutes. Very annoying - I was hoping to be back to work tomorrow. I work in a school and we're very short staffed at the moment, so it seems rediculous for me to be sitting at home feeling completely fine (have cold symptoms, but not bad enough to stop me going in if it wasn't covid).

FlamingoYellow · 02/02/2022 08:26

DS2 had symptoms on Saturday evening, strong positive Sunday morning. He was a faint positive yesterday morning (d3) and negative this morning, so it's looking good for day 6 release.

DottyHarmer · 02/02/2022 08:32

Do is positive. This is all new to me (a family member being positive, that is) so does he have to isolate until he is negative, however long that is? I have read/been told conflicting advice.

Mepop · 02/02/2022 08:48

DD on day 9. Still strong positive that shows before the control line appears. But the test on day 1 was a weak positive it only came up after 5 minutes so I think we probably caught it right at the beginning of the infection. She developed symptoms later that day.

GetTheGoodLookingGuy · 02/02/2022 08:58

He has to isolate until the end of Day 10, unless he has two negative tests on consecutive days (the first being no earlier than Day 5). If he's still positive on Day 10, he can still stop isolating on Day 11 so long as he's had a normal temperature for 48 hours.

So say he tested positive on Day 5, then negative on Day 6, then negative on Day 7, after the negative test on Day 7 he could be released.

Thank you.

Thank you, it’s thankfully been mild. I had a few hours of feeling rotten on the evening of the day I tested positive and since then I’ve just felt like I’m almost over a cold.

Just to update, my test was much fainter this morning.

usernotfound0000 · 02/02/2022 13:49

I'm wondering this too. DD1 is currently positive and day 5 is Saturday, really hoping she is negative by then but haven't heard of many cases where it happens.

LivingNextDoorToNorma · 02/02/2022 14:13

I was negative day 5 and 6. But I was completely asymptomatic, so I don’t know if that impacts the ‘amount’ of virus there is for the test to pick up.

Anecdotally from people I know who've had it recently, it seems that people without symptoms/many symptoms are testing positive longer. Two teachers at my school went off with it on the same day a couple of weeks ago; by day 5/6 one was testing negative but still feeling really unwell, the other was still a blazing positive but feeling completely fine. Two children in my class went off a day apart - the one who had (mild) symptoms was back on day 6 having tested negative, whereas the one who had no symptoms was off until day 10.

I'm aware that's a very small sample size, but that's why I was hopeful I might test negative today. Fingers cross for tomorrow, that'll be one of the people getting a strong positive one day and a total negative the next!

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 02/02/2022 15:00

Still positive here - no sign of a fainter line either. Only bonus is that 3 school events she desperately didn't want to miss have now been postponed because it's absolutely rife in the school.
Dd2 & I still negative....

This gives me hope. Day 5 test tomorrow but todays was a strong instant dark line!

Hope everyone feels better soon x

lauren234 · 02/02/2022 15:49

My day 5 is tomorrow, I did a test this morning and it was negative already

Wellbythebloodyhell · 02/02/2022 16:06

Ds tested negative by day 4, day 5 and 6 remained negative

InDubiousBattle · 02/02/2022 16:16

I had a strong positive on day 5 followed by a negative on day 6. I still feel pretty ill on day 11 though so I haven't really been anywhere anyway.

SNUG2022 · 02/02/2022 16:21

Day 6 and 7 were negative. All strong prior to that.

TokyoSushi · 02/02/2022 16:26

I had a strong positive first test on Monday, but putting bits of a jigsaw together, I think that was actually about day 3/4, I'm fading nicely now.
I've had relatively mild symptoms, just a very itchy rash and headache.

Squeekybummum · 02/02/2022 18:13

My 3 children tested positive Friday and Saturday.
2 had mild symptoms for about 24hrs. They have tested negative today on day 5. Fingers crossed for the same tomorrow so they can go back to school.
My other is still positive. But he had worse symptoms, so I'm presuming its something to do with that.

BlueEyesUltimateDragon · 02/02/2022 18:25

DS10 tested negative on day 5 (yesterday) and 6 (today) and went back to school today. He had a sore throat day 0 and perfectly fine since. His positive was very strong day 0 and came up immediately.
My day 0 positive also came up immediately and was very bright. It's my day 5 today and I had a strong positive still which came up after 2 minutes. I have had more symptoms - tiredness, headaches, sinus problems, a cough and one day of horrendous aches and pains at the beginning.
I did wonder if the lack of symptoms meant he got his negative test earlier but I've heard of other asymptomatic cases as being positive for a long time as well.
And then there is DH - surrounded by Covid, not for the first time, and somehow stayed negative throughout. Now THAT baffles me!
