No isolation when covid positive in March

I just cannot get my head around this.

As far as I know, no other country has announced this.

For two years they’ve told us that it’s dangerous and now they’re prepared to send me to work directly next to someone infected with covid?

I had always believed it should be more socially acceptable to simply stay home when sick, as too many feel forced in to work with flu etc, but this takes the biscuit.

I understand we need to find a way to get back to some kind of normal but this seems extreme.

Will this really happen in less than 2 months!?

Hopefully. I can't afford to stay home if I'm not ill. I could have worked when I had Covid, I wasn't that sick. Many people are in my situation and not testing now anyway as they can't afford to isolate.

Wandda · 30/01/2022 18:31

So many people don’t get paid if they are off work, even with Covid. People have mortgages/rent to pay and families to feed, It’s only right and fair that they remove the need to self isolate.

VioletOcean · 30/01/2022 18:37

Hopefully it means all those unvaccinated (not medical reasons) can get their sorry arsed to work and actually be on work rather than pissing off every few weeks for a week or so. Sick of their I’m so bored, I miss work.. messages. Wish they’d just STFU

littlepeas · 30/01/2022 18:37

I agree with it. People who are well enough to work should not be forced to isolate, especially if there is a financial implication for them doing so.

Whathefisgoingon · 30/01/2022 18:40

And how does that work for CEV? No laws in place to force employers to protect them etc. My employers haven’t given a hoot about CEV since it began and certainly won’t in March!

This is already happening in schools

Footnote · 30/01/2022 18:42

I don’t understand why you wouldn’t have a transition. Not isolating at home but able to go out with a mask, work at a 2 m distance from others, no entering other homes or entertainment venues for 3–5 days.

It shouldn't be. The rules are if you're positive, you isolate.

The likelihood is that community testing will stop/massively reduce, so people probably won’t know they have covid anyway.
Reallybadidea · 30/01/2022 18:50

As I understand it, the legal requirement to isolate will go, but the official advice will still be to isolate. But most people won't bother probably.

Is it? Our school has had over 60 people isolating due to a positive test in the past 3 weeks, so people are obviously testing and isolating there.
RedCandyApple · 30/01/2022 18:55

Good I will never isolate again.

Againstmachine · 30/01/2022 18:56

Well someone has to be first to stop spunking money up the tree in testing.

vickyc90 · 30/01/2022 18:56

I can't wait for it to be honest, the threat of isolation is worse than the disease. How the CEV manage needs a plan of rapid PCR and easy access to antivirals maybe even the availability of rapid tests for them to use daily for a while.

Denmark have actually beat us too it they have gone to four days recommended isolation.

I do wonder how socially acceptable it will be to go out knowing it's COVID at first but I imagine once testing is fully stopped people won't know so will just get on with it and avoid grandparents etc if symptomatic

Welcome to the world of teaching

Northernsoullover · 30/01/2022 18:58

If I feel ill I'll be staying home. If I'm not feeling ill I'll be staying home but would probably say I'm feeling ill though. I get full pay though. That is the difference.

Bit of a generalisation there. Assume you only mean people you know? I've never had to isolate as a close contact, only when I had covid. Many of the triple vaxxed at work have had multiple periods off with illness this winter.
rrhuth · 30/01/2022 19:02

UK is treading a crazy path with covid, we have had terrible economic impacts and the government has never really given a shit about cev anyway.

Daisy829 · 30/01/2022 19:02

@Waxonwaxoff0 I’m in exactly the same situation as you. 3 of us have tested positive in the house so I’ve had to close my business (childcare) for nearly 2 weeks and we’ve all had minimal symptoms. I’ve had worse colds. I realise for some it’s very serious and I’m not wanting to take away from that but for the majority, we should be able to continue as normal.

I can’t afford to take more time off unpaid & im fairly sure the government can’t afford to continue with all the self isolation grants and funding the tests. Apparently we are one of the only countries to encourage testing without symptoms. It’s like we are looking for trouble. No wonder our cases are showing high compared to others.

LibbyL92 · 30/01/2022 19:02

We are so stretched in school with staff off. I would happily welcome this. Most people I know said they would of been able to work through it, mild headache at a push.

nether · 30/01/2022 19:04

It's going to be shit for the critically vulnerable

Who are not all old and terminal, and who include the people least likely to form the intended response to the vaccine.

Basically, don't get cancer,, because you won't be safe if you need chemo, not even in hospitals

3luckystars · 30/01/2022 19:07

I think after everything we have been through, it will feel very strange to just ‘stop’.

Like when you are supposed to stop sterilising bottles when your child gets older, you know you are being told it’s ok but after being so cautious for so long, it feels terribly wrong.

Deux · 30/01/2022 19:09

Denmark are planning to remove all domestic Covid restrictions from 1st February.

rrhuth · 30/01/2022 19:10

worriedatthemoment · 30/01/2022 19:13

Have we actually announced this ? Its been mentioned in papers and rules end in march as such but it hasn't actually been announced as definitely will happen has it ?
