No isolation when covid positive in March

I just cannot get my head around this.

As far as I know, no other country has announced this.

For two years they’ve told us that it’s dangerous and now they’re prepared to send me to work directly next to someone infected with covid?

I had always believed it should be more socially acceptable to simply stay home when sick, as too many feel forced in to work with flu etc, but this takes the biscuit.

I understand we need to find a way to get back to some kind of normal but this seems extreme.

Will this really happen in less than 2 months!?

Self employed people don't get paid, I'm not testing at all since I can't afford to be off for something I'm not ill with or would even notice if it wasn't for a random check.

A lot of employed people also get naff all.

You could tell how bad it was at height of covid, you got next to nothing the goverment paid people more to furlough than to isolate.

Calist · 30/01/2022 19:53

Loads of kids are going into school with covid because parents aren’t testing. How likely is it really that, in a class of 30, 1 child and 2 staff members test positive and NO other children? Very unlikely, but that’s what we’re being asked to believe.

I don’t blame the parents at all by the way and I support the end of testing and isolation.

Whattochoosenow · 30/01/2022 19:55

Good - it’s about time, although I expect we’ll have to wait until Our Lord and Saviour Sturgeon deems it to be safe to do so here. Our Covid experience is apparently different north of the border. 😡

True @Againstmachine

Cannot come soon enough! I cannot keep on going living in fear of catching a virus that, whilst I will likely just have a snotty nose, will force me to isolate thereby messing up my weekly appointments, tasks etc that I have to do.

If I'm unwell, I will stay home.

Testing needs to stop except for in hospitals.

Againstmachine · 30/01/2022 20:00

Against talk guidelines

Oh what do you want me to do eithier report me or not

rwalker · 30/01/2022 20:00

We can't go on like this forever with isolations cover is going nowhere .

TheYearOfSmallThings · 30/01/2022 20:01

Honestly, as someone who is wasting 5-10 days stuck at home with an asymptomatic child who tested positive, I don't think this is sustainable. The illness has got weaker, and we are vaccinated. I don't think isolation can be justified much longer.

KurtWilde · 30/01/2022 20:04

The covid 'laws' only last 2 years anyway. After that they'd have to prove they were still as necessary as before, which the just can't do, plus they'd struggle with compliance if they tried.

thewhatsit · 30/01/2022 20:06

@Footnote

I don’t understand why you wouldn’t have a transition. Not isolating at home but able to go out with a mask, work at a 2 m distance from others, no entering other homes or entertainment venues for 3–5 days.
What does this mean though?

Can they get public transport to work? Can children go to school if positive? What if too young to wear a mask? What if you work in an entertainment venue that you’d otherwise be banned from?

I don’t think you can have a half way house honestly because life isn’t so simple. I think technically if you’re a close contact aren’t you supposed to minimise going out and about..? - but I don’t think in reality people do, you’re either told to isolate or you’re not.

Eightiesfan · 30/01/2022 20:06

@CakeRabbit

This is already happening in schools
It’s not. If you test positive with. LFT you must isolate.
ZenNudist · 30/01/2022 20:09

I do feel for the CEV but we cant all be malingering at home with no symptoms

Againstmachine · 30/01/2022 20:12

Should never have been that long should have to be renewed every three weeks.

KurtWilde · 30/01/2022 20:13

@Againstmachine I totally agree.

BitterTits · 30/01/2022 20:14

We will not have a culture of being able to take the decision to stay home when ill. School staff are being treated like shit if they have any other illness (I got put the on absence monitoring for a two bouts of diagnosed illness, totalling four days in a year). When SI ends I'll be going in whether I'm I'll or not as I can't risk stage two.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 30/01/2022 20:16

@Eightiesfan

Tell that to my year 9 student who tested positive Monday then happily walked into my lesson and sat in the front row 2 days later….

So why have three school years closed this week & I'm stuck juggling homeschooling with working from home again?!
Mum45678 · 30/01/2022 20:19

About time. I've had both of my children test positive. One had no symptoms and both had to stay at home. One had very minor symptoms which she recovered from after 2 days. I was happy to keep her home when she was poorly. However she is still stuck at home over a week later because LFTs are showing as positive. I work full time and it's been an absolute nightmare. I'm sicking of keeping my perfectly healthy children cooped up inside.

It’s entirely possible that they could have started with symptoms a few days before but tested negative at that point, then were able to return to school having tested negative on days 5 and 6.

Florelei · 30/01/2022 20:25

@Againstmachine - would you be ok with a covid positive nurse or doctor treating your mother at close quarters?

Personally I think it would be a good idea for there to be some safeguards for the most vulnerable- such as care homes and those who are at greater risk due to treatment which suppresses their immune system.

Againstmachine · 30/01/2022 20:28

Well seeing as most will be vaccinated as is my mother I don't think we have much to worry about.

LidlMiddleLover · 30/01/2022 20:32

Good Might make the non vaxxed stop putting pressure on everyone else

Florelei · 30/01/2022 20:34

@Againstmachine - I don’t really know enough about how much impact the vaccines have where the patient has a compromised immune system to comment with any authority. I wish your DM all the best though. Sounds like she’s going through a tough time. Best wishes to you as well.

It will happen in 2 months because the legislation making isolation compulsory was time limited to two years and Johnson doesn't have the guts to try and force the loons in his party to vote for what is right for what is right for public health.
