How long did you feel rough after Covid?

I'm on day 12 now so technically over it. I had a couple of days where I felt really quite poorly but rest of time was just very tired and headache / difficult to concentrate.
But now I still feel exhausted and a regular very chesty cough. Feel worse now than I did a few days ago. Is this just part of the general recovery ?

@dahliaaa

I've just asked on other thread but is anyone taking vitamins and / or a 'tonic' to help with recovery ?
Floridex tonic is my go to after a virus. Got me though terrible fatigue after having serious flu one year.
blackcurrantjam · 24/01/2022 09:06

@UnicornsReal it's really odd isn't it. I'm jabbed and I can only think the jabs don't actually do much or I'd have been really ill without. But I have friends that weren't jabbed and had a very similar experience to me / those that are jabbed. Or I just got a high viral load from the 2yr old so got it badly, orwas particularly tiredwhen I got it - I was - or this was Omicron so jabs don't work on Omicron. I'm all for vaccinations although not sure I'd mandate them but I'm honestly not sure I'll bother with the booster Confused

dahliaaa · 24/01/2022 09:07

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor I'd forgotten about floradix - thank you

Do you know that's reminded me about spatone being helpful after hideous tonsillitis one time

theDudesmummy · 24/01/2022 09:22

Of course they work. Have you not seen the difference in the hospital and death rates between "now" and "then"?

Yes very true
UnicornsReal · 24/01/2022 09:49

I wonder if the initial death rates were people who were vulnerable, in poor health or particularly susceptible. Many of those death rates included people who had Covid at the time of death, but it may not have been the main cause.
So many people have had Covid several times now. Those that are dying now are probably the last who have no natural immunity/are vulnerable for reasons of obesity, poor health or low immunity. Or have other health issues.
Vaccines are certainly not giving immunity at the percentages we were told they would.

Day 7. Still
Positive. Sleeping lots and headaches most of the time.
Other than that a slight cough and cold. Hoping to feel normal soon.

theDudesmummy · 24/01/2022 12:03

I have cancelled everything for this week (day 3 here), hoping all OK by weekend but we shall have to see...

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 25/01/2022 09:03

I went back to work yesterday, negative on what was day 12, felt okay on Sunday so thought I was fine to go.

I only managed to get changed into scrubs and put my lunch in the tearoom before I had to go home. Sweating, really breathless, heart rate was up at 145, really shaky.

I came home and slept on the couch for a few hours. It totally wiped me out and I've taken the rest of the week off to try and get over this. While I was isolating the kids were also off so we never had a minute to just rest. Now they're back at school I'm hoping I can properly rest during the day for those few hours.

I've woken up today with such a sore chest, feel like I've set myself right back to the start.

OnebusyMum · 25/01/2022 09:32

@AColdDuncanGoodhew that's exactly how I feel, really shaky and headache..my heart is racing, I've just been the doctors for a blood pressure check, waiting for a call back off the doctor, so maybe do the same.

TwoCatsTwoHats · 25/01/2022 11:42

How is everyone coping with being back at work and feeling absolutely awful? I've been back a week and can barely breathe by midday or concentrate on anything. No chance catching up on all the work that sat waiting for me when I was off.

homeappliances · 25/01/2022 12:06

Twocatstwohats - I'm sorry it's been difficult returning to work. I'm on day 7, feeling a bit better but having difficulties with breathing and currently taking steroids. Your post is exactly what I'm worried about. Has anyone had a phased return to work?

TwoCatsTwoHats · 25/01/2022 12:30

Would have found a phased return so much easier to manage. I'm a year 1 teacher, 30 kids, many behaviour/ learning issues, no TA, and I don't think it's sustainable for me to work full time at the moment. First day back I didn't have a break and then after school, a late meeting. Not been able to mark books or plan & prepare lessons in the evening as too exhausted.PPA spent catching up on meeting admin deadlines. Once you test negative after having Covid, that's it, Covid gone! - well, where I work at least...

homeappliances · 25/01/2022 13:33

DaffodilTwohatsTwocats.
I work in schools too and I worry about returning. Some people forget that Covid still effects everyone differently, for some it will be mild but others will take longer to recover. Returning to work should reflect this, but sadly it doesn't.

OnebusyMum · 25/01/2022 13:45

@TwoCatsTwoHats I work in a school too. I've asked for half days for the rest of this week. I'm in pre school, lots of up and downs, so really don't think at the moment with racing heart/dizziness , working all day.
I agree that once you get that negative people seem to expect you to be fine. It seems to be effecting everyone so different, some of my colleagues, have only had a mild head cold with it, others the same as me.
Wishing you all a speedy recovery.

TSJ19 · 25/01/2022 15:15

Hi im on day 12 or 13 now and i feel worse than ever today. Im so tired and have a horrible sinus pain headache. Feel really sick as well. My eyes really ache

CalmDownBoris72 · 25/01/2022 15:19

Day 12 here and totally back to normal, I haven’t been boosted but had 2 x Pfizer last spring/ summer.

breakdown19 · 25/01/2022 15:30

Place marking. I feel dreadful

Sleepyteach · 25/01/2022 20:36

I’m on day 14 now, and I feel completely exhausted. I went back to work on Day 9 and have been busy with the toddler and just being out and about since then and I think I should probably have taken it easier. I’ve also had horrendous pain in my elbows today - very random but they were very sore on day 2/3 and the pain has come back today.

tokyo1 · 25/01/2022 20:42

Also watching with interest. It's been 4 weeks and still feeling awful. Sinus issues and the exhaustion is terrible :( have to grin and bear it for work but I'm pretty much on regular painkillers to manage through it.

BurntO · 25/01/2022 20:43

I had headaches for 3-4 weeks

camperqueen54 · 25/01/2022 20:54

6 months but I got alpha variant and no vaccine at that point.

boogiebogie · 25/01/2022 23:29

Very rude isn't it, and a little dumb. You habe the jab to protect you and let others do what they want and keep your nose out!!!

BaggaTDoubleTroubleDoubleG · 26/01/2022 06:47

I felt almost completely recovered by day 7 and the symptoms I had were comparable to a moderate head cold - felt rough but nothing too dramatic.

Day 12 today and woken with a horrid sore swollen throat and a headache, which I assume is a continuation of the Covid illness rather than something new.

DH is still coughing at day 12 and DS (4 months) still coughing and congested, eczema flaring etc.

All completely negative on LFTs and have been since day 8 or so.
