How long did you feel rough after Covid?

I'm on day 12 now so technically over it. I had a couple of days where I felt really quite poorly but rest of time was just very tired and headache / difficult to concentrate.
But now I still feel exhausted and a regular very chesty cough. Feel worse now than I did a few days ago. Is this just part of the general recovery ?

I tested positive on Christmas Day: felt like a mild cold but the cough persisted for a couple of weeks after I came out of isolation. Totally better now though.

cakedelight77 · 16/01/2022 22:11

@FrostyGirl66 clearly you don't feel any weight of responsibility, otherwise you would get vaccinated.

Good luck when they bring in vaccination passports.

I am 10 weeks in and still have no energy, cardiac symptoms and nerve pain if I try to over do things. Still sleeping 12 hours a day and need 2 naps per day. I am improving though, the nausea has ended after 6 weeks and the hot flushes are mostly gone now, but am expecting it to take a few months.
Taking it easy, resting lots and having frequent breaks is the best (and only) advice the GP had for reducing your chances of long Covid.

underneaththeash · 16/01/2022 22:19

My boys DH, DS15 and DS13 felt rough for a couple of weeks when they had it in November.

Duke4 · 16/01/2022 22:20

Recovery is notoriously rocky and it’s no straight trajectory. I had it relatively good - rough for about 3 days and exhaustion for a few more. Recovered within two weeks. Palpitations lasted longer.

Hoppinggreen · 16/01/2022 22:20

Started feeling ill on 23rd December, at about 80% now I would say

seoda24 · 16/01/2022 22:28

I tested negative on day 11. That was four days ago… Have to say it absolutely floored me and I will never forget the sleepless nights due to nasal congestion . I suffer from allergic rhinitis and multiple allergies and it turned into sinusitis requiring antibiotic and steroid . My eyes swelled from nose pain :((
Back to work tomorrow with low energy levels ….
Please tell me I cannot get this again !!! ???
Hope everyone keeps well

HesterShaw1 · 16/01/2022 22:32

I was terribly fatigued and light headed for a month with Delta. I also has a secondary UTI. But then suddenly I got better and was right as rain.

SaintVal · 17/01/2022 07:24

Day 16 and 'the headache' woke me up AGAIN! This was followed by another coughing fit - it's like I have fluid on my chest. I'm asthmatic and have rhinitis as well so I still feel crap and exhausted from the coughing. I'm going for a walk today along the sea front but don't think I'll be stomping along somehow.

dahliaaa · 17/01/2022 08:48

Someone mentioned getting COVID again. I'm really nervous about that too. I use public transport every day but am as careful as I can be.

Had it over new year - was still really not myself last week, but I seem to have just about shifted it now apart from my ears are bunged up which is how my body reacts to getting a bug (it goes into ear wax production mega overdrive) - once I get them cleaned this afternoon I'll be pretty much back to myself. This is normal for me though I tend to get one bug a winter that absolutely whacks me out of kilter for a good couple of weeks - mainly cos I never get the chance to properly rest and kick the bugger into touch.

ohdear99 · 17/01/2022 09:58

@SaintVal sorry to jump
On currently day 6 asthmatic. I'm on antibiotics at the moment as a precaution as bringing up a lot of yellow phlegm ! How was you did u bring up phlegm with covid?

Motherofcats007 · 17/01/2022 10:06

I’m on day 14 and still having terrible fatigue and heart palpitations (just to add I’m also 31 weeks pregnant but have had both jabs and booster already). I’ve been signed off work for 2 weeks (I was in the covid ward for the first day due to heart issues) but still don’t feel ready to go back tomorrow. Just wondering how long did you guys take off work?

dahliaaa · 17/01/2022 12:33

@Motherofcats007 I wouldn't rush back - particularly at 31 weeks pregnant.

I'm back in office today after working from home all last week as obviously I was isolating. I'm on day 13 and feel pretty wiped out. Legs and arms feel quite shaky and I've still got cotton wool head. Difficult to concentrate etc.

I take vitamin D and a multi vitamin each day but don't know if I should be taking anything else on top.

@FrostyGirl66 ignore the shamer, she's one of the few who has lost her mind over this. Glad to hear your covid was mild, most cases are.

PennyFarting · 17/01/2022 12:52

@Marchitectmummy

It's a strange illness, we were ill for a few days and thought we were better. That was 5 weeks ago and since then our girls are fine but husband and I have been on and off having symptoms, coughing, headaches and unable to walk more than a couple of miles without feeling tired. We were both very sporty prior to covid but struggle with more than a game of badminton since.
This is my exeprience too.

8 weeks since relatively mild infection and still have regular of/off (mostly on) symptoms of sore throat, fever, chills, headache, coughing, fatigue and low exercise threshold.

It's driving me up the wall!

dahliaaa · 17/01/2022 17:50

I'm on way home from work now. It's been much harder than I anticipated.
Although I felt rough for a little while I genuinely couldn't say that I had a bad dose of Covid but I've never felt this after a virus before.
Shaky and feeling faint through the day. Very difficult to concentrate. Doing absolutely nothing when I get in.

cakedelight77 · 18/01/2022 04:42

@Nsmum14 no I'm one of the MANY that has taken the responsible action and got vaccinated.
Unless you have a medical exemption- do the right thing and get vaccinated like the rest of us!
Ignoring science is a dangerous thing to do.

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 18/01/2022 07:27

Urgh my day 6 is still a blazing positive, the line is practically black on the test strip Sad

@dahliaaa hope you rested well after work

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 18/01/2022 08:37

Day 9 for me now. Youngest has gone back to school as he tested negative 2 days in a row. I'm still exhausted and woke up with a banging headache. I've fed the pets and children and unloaded the dishwasher. Having a longcrest now before I mop the floors downstairs. They haven't been cleaned for nearly 2 weeks although DH has hoovered. I'm thinking that will be all I achieve today.

Change123today · 18/01/2022 08:44

I’m day 11 - the tiredness is driving me mad! I’m back working from home but yesterday lunch break I was asleep! Headache has definitely eased but as I get more tired over the day the headache returns & I struggle with processing.
I didn’t really get any bad symptoms just a sore throat, headache & snuffles. So I thought I’d be ok quite quickly - the tiredness is driving me mad!!
Hopefully will improve soon!

Trinacham · 18/01/2022 08:45

Can only remember one day of fatigue and that was before I found out I had it! I fell asleep on the sofa and then went to work that evening (lone working fortunately). This was in August so I'm guessing Delta. Also pregnant and unvaccinated. Weird how different experiences are!

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 18/01/2022 08:51

I've had chronic fatigue in the past so I'm really hoping this covud doesn't trigger a long term relapse. Months and months of crushing fatigue is unbearable and I had to leave my job as I was so ill. Over the last two years I've gradually build up my activity levels to walk 10km a day - I was doing this the week before I caught covid. Going back to square one is very upsetting.

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 18/01/2022 08:58

Still feeling under the weather - muscle aches, unnatural fatigue, weariness, brain fog, headaches - 2 months on ☹️ But was never able to take time off work (self-employed), so have unhappily ploughed through

MummyPop00 · 18/01/2022 09:06

Caught Wuhan v1.0 in March 2020. Still have Long Covid symptoms that wax & wane. As others say, it’s very weird. Took me a wee while to get back up to something like my pre Covid fitness after Wuhan. Now I just have bad periods instead of it being constant.

eg, climbed Ben Nevis last summer because I was feeling pretty good & I do feel good on my good days, can cycle, swim, hill climb just as I did pre Covid.

The last couple of weeks however I have had symptoms that come to the fore every few weeks: fatigue, aching, milder breathing issues (compared to the original disease), minor dry coughing, & chest pain which I have been told is viral induced Costochondritis.

I remain mentally positive though, plenty of people out there unfortunately are no longer in a position to even do that.
