Boris' Partygate

Are MPs and media going too far or was Boris out of order? Was Boris really meaning for people to adhere to the rules fully or just saying it because he was expected to?

OP posts:

The man makes me vomit, when I heard this I initially felt the rage however, after thinking about it there were daily press conferences right through the thick of it with rooms full of people and that was acceptable?

I really think the restrictions were aimed at stopping large gatherings but the public were insistent they wanted specifics i.e tell me exactly what I can and can’t do.

The hardest aspect is at the time no hospital visits were permitted but this was due to the high risk and vulnerability of the patients.

the80sweregreat · 11/01/2022 19:05

I'm on the other thread about this
Be interesting to see what people say on here

Daisy829 · 11/01/2022 19:06

I think it’s just a step too far. He’s responsible for his staff & what they do & it’s not the first time senior MPs have behaved badly during the pandemic. He needs to go. Not just for this but also because he’s a totally clueless tw*t. Watching the news and seeing how carers left their family to move into care homes to look after the residents and these arrogant people carried on gave me the rage.

user1471453601 · 11/01/2022 19:14

Ffs, it wasn't him "saying things". It was the law. That's why numerous people were fined. That's why numerous people weren't at the side of their loved ones when they died. It was because the law didn't a!low them to be there. Same reason why numerous people had to to cancel their weddings, why numerous people were unable to comfort each other at funerals.

Johnson et al broke the law.

Flapjacker48 · 11/01/2022 19:14

@userperuser No, the press conferences had the journalists on zoom, so only the three ministers/officials in the conference room.

Wilkolampshade · 11/01/2022 19:16

Of course Johnson was out of fucking order! The man is an arrogant, self serving shit of the highest order!
If they try and wiggle their slimy arsed way out of this by trying the 'we were only key workers having a relax' I will personally get my fat arse along to Downing Street and piss on his doorstep.

Definitely saw at least one where the press were seated in the room together, may have been more but even so them and the officials is still a gathering.

This. And he's lied to the public and to Parliament. He's despicable and a national embarrassment.
Cas112 · 11/01/2022 19:38

Is this a joke? Of course Boris was out of order
He's a C U Next Tuesday

gettingolderandgrumpy · 11/01/2022 19:38

No the media aren’t going to far they aren’t going far enough imo . He needs to go wtf is he still doing if he had any respect he’d leave immediately .he doesn’t have any respect for anyone , he’s self righteous prick who thinks the rules don’t apply to him while the little people are kept apart and not to mention the loss of jobs and income .

RachC2021 · 11/01/2022 19:41

@userperuser the first few had the press in person. Then they switched to Zoom and moved the three lecterns further apart.

Don’t you remember the ones where graphs were truncated on Zoom? And I’m sure there were others where journalists had to submit written or pre-submitted questions because Zoom was broken.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 11/01/2022 19:43

Are you seriously having to ask if Boris was “out of order” here?!

Oh God, they aren’t seriously going down the ‘keyworker’ route are they?

Fab post as well 😂😂

Seems like ages ago and I didn’t watch them all but seem to remember one quite a way in, BBC’s Laura K was there.

I felt as outraged as the next person mainly because they have lied about many other things right throughout but as things went on, particularly by May 20 lots I know were not being as strict, just a thought anyway (I thought he should have gone before now for much worse).

Viviennemary · 11/01/2022 19:47

He is a lying toad. This reflects on the whole party.

Katie517 · 11/01/2022 19:54

As much as Boris is a lying hypocrite be careful what you wish for as a Conservative party with Gove in charge of even worse a labour PM in the shape of Starmer will be much much worse. My thoughts on the whole thing is that they knew full well it wasn’t as much of a scary risk as they had made it out to be by which point the public were almost begging for restrictions and to be told exactly what to do and as well as being angry with Boris I think a lot of people are angry with themselves for following nonsensical rules to the latter! Looking back the hysteria from some people was something else. I will never regret my decision to keep seeing my family and these stories about parties that keep coming out only make me more confident that I made the right decision.

RachC2021 · 11/01/2022 19:59

@userperuser they changed to Zoom on March 24th. They should have switched faster in my opinion, but given they still haven’t figured out how to give anyone a remote control to change slides, perhaps technical capability was behind it.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 11/01/2022 20:03

Of course they was out of order! I wonder just how many real key workers ie NHS and care staff at that time could have mentally benefitted from some relaxing downtime together after another horrendous day at work? I bet all of them could, but instead of having a "bring a bottle party" they went home knackered, stripping at the door and avoiding as many people as possible as to not pass anything on they could have potentially picked up at work and got ready for another horrendous day tomorrow. I dont know how anyone could see this as reasonable! Kids playgrounds were cordoned off at this time so they couldn't interact, something that's vital to development especially In young ones and some dickhead is trying to placate this situation by saying outdoor transmission was minimal..... nahh fuck off mate

Wilkolampshade · 11/01/2022 20:03

@RoseRedRoseBlue Michael Fabricunt was having a try out of the key worker angle earlier. Funnily enough, I don't remember it being OK for hospital staff having a piss up after work in the car park at the time...

treeflowercat · 11/01/2022 20:07

I have no great love for Gove or Starmer, but I fail to see how it's even conceivable for anyone to be "much, much worse" than Boris at the moment unless perhaps you had him in a line up with Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot!

Stripyhoglets1 · 11/01/2022 20:12

People died alone.
People couldn't greive properly.
They thought it OK to gather in the sunshine in the garden.
Its never going to be ok and now they are trying to speed up the end of the pandemic to distract people.

PurpleDaisies · 11/01/2022 20:13

He lied to parliament. He was at a party and yet he still claimed that at all times the rules had been observed.

He is an utter disgrace.

And on that note.....since when was Carrie a key worker?

Daisy829 · 11/01/2022 20:31

Omg @Wilkolampshade I would bloody love it if you did this!
