Boris' Partygate

Are MPs and media going too far or was Boris out of order? Was Boris really meaning for people to adhere to the rules fully or just saying it because he was expected to?

@Flaxmeadow

It isn't that the the rules were wrong, its that in this May 2020 email episode, he so obviously broke them and should now resign. The garden photo wasn't that bad, it made sense to work outdoors but this email event is much worse than that and its so flippant. Then his reaction in the interview when he appears to smirk.

What does anyone think will happen tomorrow at PMQs?

FFS, as if they were working in those pictures. Not a single pen, piece of paper or laptop to be seen! Just red wine and a couple canoodling in the grass. Wake up 🙄

I'm struggling to get my head around your question.

I presume that the prime minister expected people to adhere to the rules, given that new laws were passed under his leadership. It is clear that he considered himself above the law, but I'm sure that he was aware that lots of ordinary people were being heavily fined for their non-compliance.

Are you suggesting that Boris is actually too stupid to understand that laws are supposed to be obeyed? Confused

I can't begin to even imagine why you might think that MPs and the media are being harsh in expecting the prime minister to obey the laws of the land, and particularly those which he has been responsible for creating. Surely this is the most basic expectation that we should have of our leaders.

Given that people like the OP have such incredibly low standards, I guess it's no wonder really that our politics is such a shit show. The mind boggles.

If he can't stand up in the House tomorrow and say he was not at the party and knew nothing about it, I think he is toast sooner or later.

He might just have weasled his way out of it all if he hadn't smirked and giggled in that interview yesterday. That turned a lot of Tory tummies I think. There has not been a massive rush of tories coming out to defend him. Even Michael Fabricant and his wig were wishy washy in their support.

Baroness Altmann gave a very dignified interview on Newsnight. She seemed really upset about the shite Johnson is dragging the Tory party through.

GreenLunchBox · 11/01/2022 23:47

The Daily Mail are going for him. An article listing his many misdemeanors,( although lots are missing such as his Brexit lies) on the front page online

If he doesn't go tomorrow then he never will. I don't care either way, tbh. Hope the Tory party implodes.

There was no "appears" about it!

GreenLunchBox · 11/01/2022 23:50

Is Fabricant a real person? I saw his LBC interview and couldn't work out if he was a Boris parody or tribute act.
Mind boggling if he's a real person, never mind an MP

ClaudineClare · 11/01/2022 23:50

I will be breaking dry January if he goes!

They do look to be working or just finishing work and they did often work outside, which if you can is sensible with covid

But my point is, this latest email leak is much worse than that. It's an obvious invite after work for a 'booze!' event. A party, which was against the rules at the time

ClaudineClare · 11/01/2022 23:56

MP for Lichfield GreenLunchBox. I think Fabricant had the hairstyle first!

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 12/01/2022 00:02

The conservatives lied about this

They lied about Brexit

They are f*cking liars

GE NOW !

PartyOnKale · 12/01/2022 00:04

Op just think about good leaders/ bosses / senior family members you respect.
They lead by example.

Nat6999 · 12/01/2022 00:55

Ds said tonight every MP on the opposition benches should stand up & call Boris a liar, refuse to withdraw the comment & have to leave the house just to make a stand & get the media coverage. I'm so desperate to see the back of him I would take Theresa May back with both hands.

TalkToTheHand123 · 12/01/2022 12:07

I mean as in sometimes we have to say things and can't actually say what we mean ie. If a police officer was asked if smoking cannabis was ok. The reply would have to be no, but may think a little now and again was ok and wouldn't mind if you did, but would get rollocked for saying the true thoughts.

Having a garden party with friends, did he not feel compelled by his peers to say what he said, whereas a reading between the lines would be it's ok, just be discreet.
