And if you chose not to please don’t give COVID to my red zone working partner.

I’m CEV, I’m positive, I can have only caught it from him - and he works In a red zone where last week 98% of patients were not vaccinated

Sorry for the moan.

Urghhh wrong message!

YANBU in the sense that everyone should be vaccinated unless they're one of the few who are medically exempt.

YABU in the sense that nobody is going to care about the opinion of a random MNer. If someone doesn't want to be vaccinated, after 13 months of a nationwide pro-vaccine drive, your opinion isn't going to make the blindest bit of difference.

StanleyGreen · 10/01/2022 11:28

@WindyState

I can well understand where the OP is coming from.

People not getting vaccinated are knowingly and utterly selfishly putting others at risk.

And the vaccine does reduce the likelihood of infected people transmitting as well as insuring there are less ill people transmitting to start with so can we stop with the "oh but the vaccine doesn't stop you spreading it" because it fucking does.

It's not doing too well in Israel is it???
Cas112 · 10/01/2022 11:28

Give it a rest

Urthie · 10/01/2022 11:29

Vaccines in Israel have done very well…

Sorry, I am a bit slow but also nosey. Are you saying that your dp is a doctor, and there would be fewer Covid patients in the hospital to infect him if they were vaccinated and thus got through the infection at home? And that if there were fewer patients then he would be less likely to catch it from the ones he did treat because there'd be less Covid floating around to penetrate any gaps in his protection? Is that how it works?
In my ignorance I'd have assumed that if he works with Covid patients then he's relatively likely to catch it regardless of the actual number.

Hope your jabs are working well.

StanleyGreen · 10/01/2022 11:30

You have two choices, force the whole world to get vaccinations to keep you safe. Or split up from your partner. One is in your power to change.

HumunaHey · 10/01/2022 11:31

Yeah because demanding people "get their fucking vaccine" is a sure fire way to change people's minds who don't want it Hmm.

Don't be so rude and arrogant.

Oh really? Maybe you should have a proper look at the figures and how many triple vaxxed are currently in hospital.
Butteryflakycrust83 · 10/01/2022 11:31

You are only going to get abuse here OP but just wanted to say I am so sorry that you have caught it - the point is your husband has been exposed because people have been pig bloody headed.

doublemonkey · 10/01/2022 11:32

You are far more likely to catch covid from someone who's vaccinated, OP.

ravenmum · 10/01/2022 11:34

@doublemonkey

You are far more likely to catch covid from someone who's vaccinated, OP.
If 90% of people you meet are vaccinated then yes, of course. But if 98% of the people you treat are unvaccinated then you're far more likely to catch it from an unvaccinated person.
BasketBlocks · 10/01/2022 11:35

I’m vaxxed to the max and don’t understand those who aren’t (save for those with a medical exemption). However, last time I checked it was a free country and people were free to decide what medical treatments they accept or decline without having to be shamed for it, however misguided they might be.

SummerHouse · 10/01/2022 11:36

I see your point OP - if people were vaccinated they wouldn't (mostly) be in the red zone, passing it on to staff, indirectly on to you.

But.... it does no good at all to think in these terms. It's like holding on to hot coals. You are only hurting yourself.

Let this go and replace with these positive thoughts: your partner does an amazing job and you and him have been very selfless in continuing to do this despite the risk to you; you are vaccinated and hopefully will have a mild illness; freedom of choice is such an important thing - people have their reasons and whose to say they are wrong in that personal choice; our NHS is incredible because of the people who work in it and it's availability to all.

chasingrain · 10/01/2022 11:36

OP, 98% of patients were unvaccinated? I'm sorry I find that hard to believe as we have a high uptake of the vaccine - BBC claiming 90% for England. Unless your partner is working solely with patients that cant actually have the vaccine ( in which case its not their fault) then I think you have the stats a bit off.

I work in health care - primarily pregnant ladies and whilst that demographic isn't as high as others with vaccine uptake - its still substantial.

What sector does your partner work in?? Its seems odd considering the high percentage of vaccine up take nationally - yet your partner sees an almost 100% demographic who are unvaccinated - who are these people?

DiddyHeck · 10/01/2022 11:36

It becomes OP's business when people's choice not to be vaccinated means they end up in hospital infecting people like her partner. If they had been vaccinated their chances of having to go to hospital are massively reduced.

Nope, still not the OP's business.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 10/01/2022 11:37

98%? Yeah right. Or do you mean "not boosted yet". Not. The. Same, but even then I don't believe it - the vaccination rates in the UK are excellent despite all the moaning on here and elsewhere.

Anyway, presumably you are fine, despite being CEV? I also presume you've not been out of the house since February 2020 so there is no chance you could have caught it elsewhere?

Tittyfilarious81 · 10/01/2022 11:38

Ahhh another blame the unvaccinated thread Hmm

JuergenSchwarzwald · 10/01/2022 11:38

@Butteryflakycrust83

The OP's partner is just as likely to have caught it from someone who has been vaccinated - in fact more so, as most people are vaccinated (and boosted).
BungleandGeorge · 10/01/2022 11:39

Out of interest was your partner issues with a proper respirator mask and PPE if he was working in a red area?

TheChip · 10/01/2022 11:39

Hang on. You got infected from a vaccinated person. Yet you're blaming the unvaccinated Hmm

ravenmum · 10/01/2022 11:39

Maybe OP is in Australia? That's what I found when I googled "red zone".
YetAnotherSpartacus · 10/01/2022 11:40

I hope that you have a really mild dose and are OK OP. Flowers

Also, YANBU, but you'll draw in the anti-vaxxers like seagulls to a chip.

BoredZelda · 10/01/2022 11:40

Being vaccinated does not prevent you catching it or passing it on, it means your own symptoms will be less severe.

Missing the point there.

chasingrain · 10/01/2022 11:40

@BungleandGeorge

Yes, the PPE is quite substantial in the red zones.
