Just seen on Sky New there is a news conference tonight at 5, interested to know what will be said...

There hasn’t been the usual rumblings “leaked documents” etc so hopeful just an update, what do we all think?

@OvaHere

Knee and hip home surgery kits next.

I'm reminded of that House episode where he did home surgery in the bath. At least he was an actual doctor.

I’ve got my regular hysteroscopy coming up soon. Should I be rehearsing camera angles now? I’m not sure my arms are long enough to reach round and up my shufty from a supine position so I will have to ask my husband to help. He can wear his new head torch.

No further restrictions then.

Even more vital that we get air filters into every classroom then.

Every school. Every classroom. ASAP.

Patrick just looks like he wants to tell Boris to shut up.

I think Chris was very clear at one point when he pointedly said "MINISTER'S made the decision" to a question that the scientists dont agree

IcedCoffeeMilkshake · 04/01/2022 17:48

I've just turned on now- i am assuming that nothing has been said about vaxxing under 12s and the promise that a decision would be made on that for vulnerable under 12s 'before Christmas' ?

MarshaBradyo · 04/01/2022 17:49

Have we had a Chris Whitty looks terrified post yet ;

I think that will always be the case though - CW and PV are not in a position to balance a public health response with other social and economic needs. It isn't even part of their job description and they aren't the people who were elected to that position. It wouldn't be right for them to make those decisions. They have to stay in their advisory position, focusing on health.

Don't think so, just Vallance looks serious/miserable/concerned about the variant discovered in the south of France

And apparently Whitty hinting at disapproval. MINISTERS MAKE DECISIONS!

Yes. Thank god!

NHS moving to a war footing, that sounds like it is all going to go really well.

Hell yeah Hmm

It's already on a war footing as stated by the NHS medical director, Stephen Powis earlier this week in this NHS England communication:

Porfre · 04/01/2022 18:01

The problems is -.it is going to RIP through the population.

I guess the hope is as its milder it is more likely to give better protection from covid than the jabs that havent been updated.

The only problem is the restrictions. If they aren't introducing restrictions on the back of it being milder the they need to consider cutting the restrictions so that the country doesnt come to a standstill. It seems a lot of the problem with staffing is the fact people are having to isolate rather than being too unwell to work.

I absolutely agree, i wasnt trying to suggest otherwise i just liked the fact Chris made the point rather than staying silent id rather hear their honest opinions than listen to Boris bumble on, doesnt mean id necessarily agree we need to lockdown.
LolaLouLou · 04/01/2022 18:02

I didn't watch it. My DH's feedback is that Johnson has had a hair cut.

The NHS staffing situation sounds worrying. The issue is that it is people not numbers who will receive less than adequate care because of staffing shortages.

Johnson, his family, friends and cronies will either pay privately or pull strings to get treated if they fall ill, whilst the rest of us will be screwed if we need hospital treatment.

rrhuth · 04/01/2022 18:03

I always wonder how things will play politically and I think flat press conferences like that are risky, it was neither positive/cheerful nor was he announcing anything to tackle the problem.

Basically we know it is quite crap, and it will carry on being quite crap, but we CBA to do anything because it isn't completely crap.

tbh if they decided to start a political party I would probably vote for them

At least they seem intelligent and honest and they know what they are doing.
