My almost 80 year old amazingly fit and healthy DM tested positive on LF today. She currently well and only has symptoms of a head cold. Really mild symptoms so I'm presuming she has the Omicron variant (her contact has the same symptoms-head cold for 2 or 3 days and fine now). She is triple vaccinated and her only other medical condition is rheumatoid arthritis but she's not on any immunosuppressant drugs. I'm really sick with worry due to her age. Please help me sleep tonight telling me some stories of elderly relatives that have had Omicron and are fine with it.

Here's one for you.

People of 90 years and over in the first wave, prior to vaccination, who were admitted to ICU with Covid - 6 out of 7 of them came out alive and made a full recovery.

I know lots died but that's a pretty good bit of context.

my 85 year old dad had it last year he's been in and out of hospital. Very frail immobile struggles to eat and drink.
Given 12months life expetancey last year.
Dodgy heart valve and harden arteries

bounced back after a week .

Thanks all. You're all being really kind and it's helping a lot. Her symptoms are still mild.

My 89 year old mum had Delta, double jabbed and has health issues. She was fine, not hospitalised.

My neighbour's 82 year old sister had it and felt terrible for a week but is now fine. No need for hospital treatment.

My 86 year old CEV dad got it in August before boosters. He felt rotten for a week and it took a while to get his taste and smell back but he’s recovered.

My 96 year old GMIL had Delta and slept through it with the odd cough. She's 97 now.

I remember reading that with Delta 84% are absolutely fine aged 80 and above.

This is likely to be a much higher positive outcome with Omicron as it mainly infects the upper airways meaning much less lung complications. More like a common cold.

I hope she's feeling better soon.

My in laws in their 80s with a whole host of other illnesses had it. 3 days after their isolation ended they were on their way to their planned break in the lake district.

Thanks everyone. She's doing ok and said she feels almost back to normal. We sat outside with her last night and she seemed a bit tired but fine on the whole. The rest of our family who have covid just now have really mild symptoms. The kids have no symptoms at all!

Lovely to hear the positive stories. Came here for some hope. My 93 year old grandma contracted COVID recently. She's very slowly getting her appetite back. She has become a little confused about things. I hope it's only temporary and she recovers.

My parents neighbour is in his late 80s and has cancer. He had covid after Christmas and barely had a cold.

I hope your Mum stays well
