My almost 80 year old amazingly fit and healthy DM tested positive on LF today. She currently well and only has symptoms of a head cold. Really mild symptoms so I'm presuming she has the Omicron variant (her contact has the same symptoms-head cold for 2 or 3 days and fine now). She is triple vaccinated and her only other medical condition is rheumatoid arthritis but she's not on any immunosuppressant drugs. I'm really sick with worry due to her age. Please help me sleep tonight telling me some stories of elderly relatives that have had Omicron and are fine with it.

My 94 year old aunt had delta. Entirely asymptomatic - only picked up on routine screening in her care home.

Juniper68 · 28/12/2021 23:03

Loads of vulnerable people I know have had it. Same symptoms as your mum's friend. All fine Smile

imstilljenny2 · 28/12/2021 23:05

Thanks both. I'm breathing a bit easier now.

My 97 year old great uncle with renal failure caught it. Was totally fine.

backonceagain79 · 28/12/2021 23:05

My friends 94 year old mum had it. Spent a couple of days in hospital and discharged - this was before vaccines.

Ohisitreally · 28/12/2021 23:06

My auntie was in a care home this time last year. Obviously the variant was more destructive…every resident and carer were effected …5 residents died out of 45 .they were all very frail . The odds for your Mum are actually pretty good 💐

Tigresswoods · 28/12/2021 23:07

Is she jabbed?

imstilljenny2 · 28/12/2021 23:08

@Tigresswoods yes triple jabbed. She got her booster about a month ago I think

My mum and dad had COVID a year ago pre vaccination. Both early 80s - some health conditions. Sailed through - like a bad cold and v tired.

VictoryLap · 28/12/2021 23:08

82 yr old MIL had delta variant. Breast cancer survivor, lymph nodes removed, diabetic. This was pre the vaccines as well. Nothing more than a cold type virus and was straight back out the door after 10 days. Her 55 yr old daughter was worse off than she was.
We were v worried when she tested positive though so I understand your anxiety,

imstilljenny2 · 28/12/2021 23:09

Thanks everyone 💐

My dad has terminal lung cancer with significant metastases. He had covid (suspected omicron) just before Christmas and breezed through with nothing more than a headache, thank goodness

imstilljenny2 · 28/12/2021 23:11

My DH is positive at the moment and he has really, really mild symptoms. Pre covid he would have been at work with just head cold symptoms!

My 91 year old nan had it a few months back it went through the whole care home.
She's fine now. Try not to worry xx

imstilljenny2 · 28/12/2021 23:11

@rooarsome oh wow that's amazing. Glad to hear he's ok.

My friend discovered she had covid when at the hospital for an eye appointment - she never got any covid symptoms, she's 84

surreymum89 · 28/12/2021 23:12

My OH grandmother mid 80s has it for 2nd time, she isn't in great health has dialysis 3 times a week, 1st time mild cold symptoms, 2nd time no symptoms.

imstilljenny2 · 28/12/2021 23:13

@StickyStickyStickStickSong I wish I could try and not worry. Covid has ruined our whole family's Christmas. I'm so sick of it

My mother (almost 80 ) was admitted 10 days ago with Covid - was discharged in 5 days and is fine .. just tired with a slight cough .
She was admitted as her breathing wasn’t great but some steroids and antibiotics sorted her out .

Good luck and take care of yourself… I was beside myself with worry .. I do understand how you feel , it’s tough .

Ps my Dad in his 80s also caught it at the same time and did not have a single symptom - he only got tested obviously as a close contact of mum

Slayduggee · 28/12/2021 23:21

My friends 90 year old nan had covid last December. Had a fall and went into hospital. Presumably caught covid after a week in hospital. She didn’t realise she had covid as she didn’t have any symptoms at all.

BunnyNumNum · 28/12/2021 23:23

My 79 year old mum had it in November. She had a cough and was very tired but no worse than a normal cold. She had only had 2 jabs at the time. She's fine now.

Wincher · 28/12/2021 23:23

I have a 98, nearly 99 year old relative who has it right now, asymptomatically. Only picked up due to routine care home testing. I think that generation are pretty tough!

imstilljenny2 · 28/12/2021 23:26

Thanks all. Yes I think that generation is very tough!

90yo auntie said 'I've had worse colds, what a fuss over nothing!' She's feisty that one, and just as well 😂

Hope your DM breezes through it OP.
