If you had the choice between Pfizer and Modena which would you have?

Moderna.

Yarnivore · 28/12/2021 12:01

I assumed I'd be getting Pfizer but was pleased when it was Moderna, I have no idea why, but, based on that, I guess if I'd been given a choice I'd have picked Moderna.

mnahmnah · 28/12/2021 12:02

I wanted Pfizer due to everyone I knew who had Moderna felt ill after. However the person that gave me it, said that after two AZ the Moderna really does give the best protection and that’s why they were giving it over Pfizer.

purplejungle · 28/12/2021 12:03

I think if you've had 2x Pfizer already, a moderna booster is slightly more effective than a third Pfizer, but not enough to delay in having a booster. So if both were available today I'd have moderna, otherwise (which was what I did) I'd have Pfizer

CremeEggThief · 28/12/2021 12:04

I only found out which one they gave me after the jab. Probably Pfizer. Luckily for me, that's what I got!

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 28/12/2021 12:04

Defo Pfizer, have felt like absolute shit since my
Moderna booster 10 days ago.. I will never have a moderna booster again

XiCi · 28/12/2021 12:08

Everyone I've spoken to that had Moderna had side effects so I was happy to get another Pfizer. I'd already had Pfizer with no side effects so was pretty sure I'd be the same with the booster.

FireandBrimstone · 28/12/2021 12:12

First two were Moderna, booster was Pfizer - had 24hr side effects after the booster. From everything I've read it doesn't make any difference, people seem to have equal chances of having/not having side effects no matter what 'brand'.

MrsWhites · 28/12/2021 12:13

I had moderna which they told me at the time offers the best protection after 2 Pfizer but for about 24 hrs afterwards I felt like my arm was in a vice, it was extremely painful and would put me off having the moderna again.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 28/12/2021 12:15

I'm not sure to be totally honest.

Both dh and I had Moderna for first 2, he had Pfizer for his booster and I had a 3rd Moderna.

We both had side effects after nothing from the initial jabs. He had a swollen armpit and my arm came out in a angry red swelling 24 hours later. Both tender, neither felt unwell though.

nordica · 28/12/2021 12:16

Ideally a different one from the first two because it seems to be the most effective to mix.

My Pfizer side effects have been very different but longer lasting than the side effects I had after my initial 2 Moderna doses. I think it's not something you can really predict.

Datsandcogs · 28/12/2021 12:28

Mass vaccination centre. No choice. It was Moderna the week I had it, was Pfizer the previous week and now, 6 weeks later they are only giving Pfizer due to Moderna side effects (apparently).

whataballbag · 28/12/2021 12:30

I opted for Pfizer, mostly because I'd already had mixed vaccines ( one AZ one Pfizer) and didn't fancy throwing a third in there!

Igneo · 28/12/2021 12:31

Be great to see the stats on the trials for which combo gives you best protection.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 28/12/2021 12:31

DH had Moderna after two AZ and no side effects other than a sore arm.

I went to a different centre that only does Pfizer. I also had two AZ and also had no side effects other than a sore arm.

BigHeartyTruffle · 28/12/2021 12:34

I had 2 Pfizer with barely any side effects, then a Moderna booster which did leave me feeling rubbish for 24h (mild flu symptoms). But worth if it’s a little more effective. Boyfriend had 2 Pfizer then Pfizer booster and felt fine.

This was my experience too, but I do feel comforted that the reaction I had means it’s definitely doing something!

Ultimately I’d go for whichever one I could get first though.

KonTikki · 28/12/2021 12:36

2 AZ jabs followed by 1 Moderna booster.
Sore arm for a couple of days, but no side effects.
Happily have Moderna again.

rrhuth · 28/12/2021 12:38

I don't have a preference between those two I think.

Watapalava · 28/12/2021 12:39

moderna gives better protection than pfizer - 45% Vs 35% after 10 weeks

littlepeas · 28/12/2021 12:42

I had Pfizer originally and a moderna booster yesterday. I was initially a bit annoyed as knew where I stood with Pfizer - 1st jab I had lingering fatigue for a couple of weeks but 2nd I only needed an afternoon nap and was otherwise fine. Then I was pleased that I was getting the best combo and was feeling smug that I felt ok yesterday. Today I feel crap. Not horrendous but crap enough to just want to lie on the sofa, which is worse than I felt with actual covid. I have had covid in between original vaccines and booster - don’t know if that has made any difference?

MajorNeville · 28/12/2021 12:51

2 AZ then 1 Moderna. Sore arm with all 3, but that's it.

rainbowandglitter · 28/12/2021 13:02

2 x AZthen pfizer. They told me this was the best combo but I think they tell everyone that.
No side effects from the booster

Groovee · 28/12/2021 13:04

I had AZ the Moderna. Had side effects with all 3 vaccines.

ohidoliketobe · 28/12/2021 13:06

I had 2 Pfizer and moderna booster. No side effects with two Pfiezers and just a bit of a sore armpit for 24 hours with Moderna booster.
DH and my parents all had AZ for 2 jabs were rough 24-48 hours after both, and moderna boosters with no side effects.
