Anyone not had it but want it to get it over and done with?

Just that really, I’ve been a contact a lot but never caught it, I know it’s strange but I just wish I could catch it so I can stop anticipating it. Anyone else the same

I am starting to feel this way.

I’m scared it’ll kill me, but living in fear like this is awful.

Yes you can get it more than once (my niece has had it 3 times so far!) but once you know you can survive it, the fear will go.

I have said to DP as soon as we get it and recover (hopefully) we are booking a holiday abroad. I wouldn’t go now as my toddler is obviously unvaccinated.

Itmustbeaproblemwithyourdoodad · 27/12/2021 22:11

I totally get you OP. I’m starting to feel like we’re the only family we know who haven’t had it yet and every time I do a LF I have a weird sort of disappointment when it’s negative.

In the last month it feels like everyone around us have caught it - the 3 builders working on our house, almost all of our colleagues (at our separate work places), our childminder, loads of friends and a few relatives. Why have we not caught it? We’re not being particularly careful. We go to work, school, restaurants, shows, cinemas, friends’ houses etc. In fact we’ve been avoiding eating at home as much as possible while our kitchen is being renovated. I just don’t get it. Thankfully everyone in our lives has had it mildly or asymptotically. I’m beginning to feel left out.

Shallwegoforawalk · 27/12/2021 22:54

I really don't want it but I do sort of get what you mean OP. I know so many people who have had it now it feels kinda inevitable and I'm just waiting for the chips to fall and find out how ill I'm going to be.

Although I'm aware we can get it more than once so will carry on being sensible where I can.

treeflowercat · 27/12/2021 22:58

@WakeUpLockie

Nope. I’ve not had it and surely even now most people have not (I am shit at maths so May be wrong). But not wishing to get it! Had 3 jabs :)
That depends on where you live... nationally 42% are estimated to have had it, but that rises to 50% or more in London and the North-West.

I understand because now I’ve recently had it I feel a weird sense of relief that’s it done after almost 2 years of avoiding/ being scared about it. It’s done, I got over it, I survived and hopefully my body will be familiar to it should I catch it again which is highly likely as it’s not going anywhere :)

BluebellsGreenbells · 28/12/2021 00:02

12,000,000 confirmed cases, 68,000,000 known UK citizens -

Way short of ‘everyone’ having had it.

I’ve had it, teens so far avoided it (we think)
But there’s no quick fix! Hopefully it’ll become milder and we never have to think about it again!

LiveFromNewYork · 28/12/2021 00:34

I think it's only natural to be intrigued about a thing that has so dominated our lives for nearly two years and if you get it with mild symptoms you realise the majority of people do not need to worry or be fearful anymore. I've had worse colds this year too.

bumblenbean · 28/12/2021 01:18

Exactly what @Whathefisgoingon said.

I’m very risk averse with covid and have had a huge amount of anxiety over it since the whole thing began, despite not being in a particularly vulnerable group. I was constantly seeing stories about young people being gravely ill or dying. I know this can indeed happen and that some people are suffering awful long covid, but it’s (relatively speaking) rare. Despite this I’ve talked myself into thinking covid would be unimaginably awful and must be avoided at all costs Hmm

But. This self-imposed state of dread is unsustainable. We are all likely to get it at some point and thankfully omicron appears to be milder for most people. I’ve had my jabs, I wear a mask where needed and there’s not much more I can do. I’ve avoided most close contact indoor activity (cinema, pubs, busy restaurants, big groups of friends etc) since last year and am sick of living like this - so I’m going to start doing more things, whilst still taking sensible precautions.

I don’t WANT to get covid but given it’s likely inevitable at some point there’s definitely a sense of wanting to get it over and done with. Yes you can catch it again but I think the anticipation is the worst thing for me - once I get it and am hopefully ok I know my anxiety will reduce. It would also probably be better to get it now while booster is still doing a decent job.

I’m not setting out to deliberately catch it but I’m sick to death of constantly worrying about it. As PP said, I even feel a little disappointed when an LFT is negative as if cold like symptoms were covid I could relax a little and get it out the way! It’s a slightly flawed logic but there we go.

scandikate · 28/12/2021 06:21

I used to feel like this but now everyone I know is getting for a second time so I'm starting to feel grateful I've never had it. Shocked I haven't as haven't done anything differently and have been in contact with a lot of people who have tested positive the next day.

Yes but like you said, confirmed cases. There will be way more people who have had it than confirmed.
OliveTree75 · 28/12/2021 06:47

I know what you mean OP. I was relieved after I had covid. I know we could get it again but it was such a non event in our house that I now don't worry at all. I will get jumped on for this but everyone will get Covid, so I kind of wish my parents would get it as well whilst their booster immunity should be good.

puppeteer · 28/12/2021 09:25

Typically, we can't rule out prior asymptomatic infection, nor acquired protection from a related illness.

Absence of positive tests does not mean you've not had it, nor that you're not protected.

We need to bring those factors back into the narrative, and dial back on the fear factor a little.

sparklemagicsnow · 28/12/2021 11:12

I'm convinced my children have already had it asymptotically, and that we (DH and I) may have as well, but we're triple jabbed so may be that we've avoided it because of that!

Both of my children have been in school classes with confirmed cases. They spent a whole day with my nephew a few weeks ago sharing food and drinks/cuddling/playing who developed symptoms and tested positive the next day. They've also had - as most primary age children have - multiple colds, coughs, bugs since September. I know I've had close and prolonged indoor contact with several people who've then gone on to be positive within 48 hours. DH has been to many gigs, football matches, pub nights etc.

We've PCR'd them (and us) many times, LFT regularly and never had it. I can understand DH and I avoiding it possibly being triple jabbed. But my unvaccinated children with so much exposure to cases? Honestly I think they've had it with no symptoms,

I will stand corrected if they/we go and catch it now, obviously, but I am not as worried about it as I was previously.

Just to warn you- this has been my experience too- until Omicron- when I've caught it as has my sister and my parents. We await what happens with the rest of the family. Without being outing my job has exposed me to many multiple cases since the start of the pandemic also. (I have also had covid before without knowing it)
notacooldad · 30/12/2021 18:59

I felt the same until I got it.
The recovery is ruining my life. I am struggling breathing 3 months on and quite limited in what exercise I am an do. While I was ill my friend died of covid very quickly after being put on a ventilator.
Be careful what you wish for.

Momof2boys1girl · 30/12/2021 22:14

Should be careful what you wish for, I’ve tested positive and so has my husband! So far not too bad

OP posts:
SoItWas · 30/12/2021 22:36

I've had every other bug going, it would seem, but I haven't had covid, afaik. It does annoy me in a way that if someone has mild covid, they get 10 days off work to self isolate, (and recover in peace), but my bosses are just as blaise as ever, about other illnesses, even though someone with the flu, could be feeling much worse, than someone with asymptomatic covid (who only even knew they had it, because they were taking regular lateral flow tests). Once my boss is happy you've ruled out covid, you're expected to get back to work, asap, no matter how rotten you're feeling, or how likely you are to pass it on. To be fair to them, pre covid they were much more sympathetic to staff needing a few days because of a bad cold/flu/bug/chest infection etc.

ElectraBlue · 30/12/2021 22:52

I am in London where cases always tend to be high.

I have been in contact with a partner, friends, colleagues and clients just before they tested positive but never caught it.

Always wonder whether I will get it eventually, but I am not in a hurry!! very happy for it to keep avoiding me...

Raaarrrrrrrr · 30/12/2021 23:03

I still have a chronic illness 21 months on. I can't imagine ever feeling well again. Be careful what you wish for.

delilahbucket · 30/12/2021 23:04

No and I don't want it. No one is going to pay me and my staff to shut my business for 7-10 days, assuming I get a mild dose.

Thievesoil · 30/12/2021 23:20

It’s odd and we need much more data on previous infection. My own experience means I’m not scared and feel previous infection does help

I am fairly certain I had it early 2020 with one DC. I felt off a few days and DC had a fever. The other members of the family didn’t really get it and tests weren’t available.

So the other kids just got it as did DH - two years later. No one very unwell - headaches.
Whereas I still tested negative with DC who originally had it although I had a slight sore throat

I think I probably had it mildly again. Original DC didn’t get it at all. We are all unvaxxed and haven’t isolated from each other

So yes I do feel my previous infection nearly two years ago has helped.

But I think we need data. Perhaps you need a strong enough case of it to develop lasting T cell immunity. Perhaps it also relates to genetics.

I will add that I am meticulous with my health, low BMI and check my vitamin D status which I think optimises my immune system

DahliaMacNamara · 30/12/2021 23:22

You must be out of your mind, OP. No, I don't want it. I could have had it already and been asymptomatic, but that wouldn't stop me getting it again and I don't think it would have any bearing on whether I got a serious dose next time, or long Covid. I already have a chronic illness that hugely limits the scope of my life. It's fucking miserable.
I understand the impulse to get something unpleasant out of the way, but that's not how this thing works.

MajorCarolDanvers · 30/12/2021 23:23

I've not had it, never been a contact and only know a few people who've had it.

Quite happy god it to stay that way.

But if I get it then I get it.

Don't know why anyway would wish to get it?

Do you wish for flu or norovirus?

Gertie75 · 30/12/2021 23:29

I haven't had it yet but am triple jabbed so hopefully I'd get it pretty mild
I'd quite enjoy a week in isolation, no work, no school runs, so shopping trips and no guilt about it.
