Just that really, I’ve been a contact a lot but never caught it, I know it’s strange but I just wish I could catch it so I can stop anticipating it. Anyone else the same

@Joystir59

I'm 64 and have never had normal flu, or a chest infection, or any number of other common complaints. It's not a foregone conclusion that we will all get COVID. I've been exposed alot too, just returned from a week in London.

With the current implication that Omicron might be mild and boosters have a short efficacy period, I'm considering starting to lick supermarket trolleys in February

Lemons1571 · 27/12/2021 15:56

Yep and I acted upon it. Bloody sick of hiding, wfh, isolated, lonely, getting depressed and increasingly anxious about the unknown (how it might affect me). The fear, what if, when…

The rest of my family caught it one by one but I never got it. That was even more stressful. They lost the fear one by one, while I got more and more terrified.

In the end the deterioration in my mental state was worse than the risk of covid complications. So I went out loads, mixed with people and caught it. OMG the mental relief far outweighs the physical symptoms.

Appreciate I might be complicated and extreme, and my thinking is probably distorted. But it’s been a stressful 2 years and I feel how I feel.

Just jumping on this post to ask a question … I tested positive if my partner catches it before my isolation end, does it reset my isolation period so if need to stay in again until he is out of his isolation ?

No. You are still free after your 10 days are up.
Titsywoo · 27/12/2021 16:19

I've just had it but am struggling with fatigue still so would rather I hadn't caught it to be honest! Especially since catching it once doesn't mean I'll never have it again!

jesuistot · 27/12/2021 16:29

I was the same, it felt like waiting for it to happen and not knowing how I’d be affected. I’m not in a vulnerable category but it can be hard to ignore the scary stories of people who were apparently all healthy and suffered horribly. When I did it get it was really mild and not an issue so I feel relieved.

StormBaby · 27/12/2021 16:37

Day ten for me today, isolation ends tonight, and I still feel utterly rubbish and unable to move off the sofa. I hoovered earlier and had to sleep it off. I go back to work in 1 more day and I’m dreading it.

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/12/2021 16:37

No. There are different strains and you can get it twice, so there is no over and done with,

Babyontheway21 · 27/12/2021 16:45

@littlepeas thank you. I wasn’t sure. I was feeling not well a few days before the lft eventually came up as positive so wasn’t sure if the isolation period started then or when I had my pcr.

Riomama · 27/12/2021 17:17

DH and I had it in early December. Finished isolating and went out and about for a week and a half- then DS (6) tested positive. Followed byDD (8). DH did a new lateral flow today (he tested negative at the end of his isolation) due to seeing relatives, and today he was positive again- seems likes he has caught it off the kids with only a week and a half since last infection. We think it’s omicron this time, and first time was probably Delta. I feel like it’s coming for me too- I have had a horribly dry throat and now have a headache and a slightly raised temp. So we are now in a never-ending isolation which is seriously depressing. Would have preferred not to get it.

IncompleteSenten · 27/12/2021 17:21

Nope
I have lung disease and heart failure among other things. I'm certainly in no hurry to get it because I am pretty confident I'd be fucked.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 27/12/2021 17:23

I was almost relieved when I finally got it back in November. Am a teacher, so it's been constantly just waiting, with little option of mitigating my own risks.

steppingcarefully · 27/12/2021 18:07

@KG1000

We got to that point a few months ago. All four of us caught covid last month, and I have to admit that a weight has been lifted; we were able to enjoy a wonderful christmas with family without the worry of infected them.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that for some covid can be lethal (hence the worry and isolation since the first lockdown). We had mild symptoms, the kids barely any symptoms. We also lost income during isolation. But, for us, the fear of covid has been far, far worse than the reality.

I thought you could still carry and transmit the virus after you've had it?
containsnuts · 27/12/2021 18:35

It's starting to feel a bit lonely with many families already had it and been fine and no longer concerned. We still have to worry about how our bodies will react so can't relax as much as others. Worry about having severe illness but also being asymptomatic and passing it on to elderly relatives. It's exhausting everytime DC get a cough/cold it's another test, isolate worry we've passed it onto parents etc. Sometimes I just want to get it over with but ultimately I still take precautions and try to avoid it where I can. We don't know the longterm effects.

Roselilly36 · 27/12/2021 18:40

I know one person that had Covid in a very vulnerable state of health, cancer patient, had no symptoms whatsoever and only knew when tested in hospital and recovered well, the only other people I know that have had Covid are double/triple jabbed poorly but thankfully recovered. I know someone who died from swine flu though, a very fit & healthy young mother.

SmellyOldPartridgeinaPearTree · 27/12/2021 18:53

Yes every time I get a cold or feel unwell I think this is it now. And it never is. The feeling of dread just never goes away but builds and builds. I hate it.

MajesticWhine · 27/12/2021 18:55

I'm on day 5 and feel exhausted. It's not just a little sniffle. Wouldn't wish it on anyone.

itsacovidxmasone · 27/12/2021 19:19

Husband and I lost our sense of smell and taste. Never want a repeat of that especially as his isn't fully back (he reckons he's lost 70%) a year on.

KG1000 · 27/12/2021 20:13

Steppingcarefully I guess it depends on which 'experts' you listen to Hmm

I am no virologist, but I am pretty confident that natural immunity from a recent infection (confirmed by antibody tests) is about as good as it gets. That said, we did take lfts the day before grandparents arrived, to be as sure as we could be. After that, it was Christmas as usual, and well worth the wait!

LyndaLaHughes · 27/12/2021 21:33

@ivykaty44

No, because the next variant is likely to be milder, and the next milder. I’d rather get it in a couple of years time than last year
Sorry but we really don't know this at all I'm afraid.
Covidworries · 27/12/2021 21:41

We will continue to try avoid it. Not least as under 12s havent had chance to be vaccinated and its unknown who will be badly effected.
For me now and the next few months would be the worst time to get covid or end up hosputalised for anything due to medical services in dire straights. So we hope to not need any care for sometime

Pistou · 27/12/2021 21:42

No - I managed to not get it with everyone in my house positive. I have no desire to get Covid if I can avoid it

sadpapercourtesan · 27/12/2021 21:44

I'm triple vaxxed, had my booster 2 weeks ago. Am on my third day of covid infection (we think it's omicrom, as all 5 of us caught it within a day)

I feel like fucking shit. Lungs on fire, all-over body pains, sore eyes, crunchy joints, fever, sinus headaches, constant nausea.

My super-healthy 17yo boy is upstairs lying in a darkened room moaning feebly to himself, he's never really felt this ill before so he's not taking it well. My CEV 81yo father has also tested positive so we're all waiting in dread to see what symptoms he comes down with.

I wouldn't wish it on yourself tbh. Do everything you can to avoid catching it and passing it on to others.

shinynewapple21 · 27/12/2021 21:59

But it's not a case of getting it over and over done with if people are getting it more than once .
