Anyone not had it but want it to get it over and done with?

Just that really, I’ve been a contact a lot but never caught it, I know it’s strange but I just wish I could catch it so I can stop anticipating it. Anyone else the same

OP posts:
Dozer · 27/12/2021 14:49

It won’t ‘get it over with’ as you can get it again.

littlepeas · 27/12/2021 14:50

.
Don’t agree with this - if you’ve had it at least you can relax a bit. Trying to avoid it constantly is utterly draining. Appreciate the consequences of getting it varies between people.
Hollyhead · 27/12/2021 14:51

I know what you mean but I’d rather get it once we ditch isolation for a set number of days, which will surely be this spring once we’ve boosted and millions have had the extra booster of omicron.

Joystir59 · 27/12/2021 14:51

I'm 64 and have never had normal flu, or a chest infection, or any number of other common complaints. It's not a foregone conclusion that we will all get COVID. I've been exposed alot too, just returned from a week in London.

PotatoOfTheNight · 27/12/2021 14:52

Every time I take an LFT (never had symptoms) a small part of me thinks I'd be glad to get a positive. That sounds crazy, but for me it's not knowing how poorly I'd be (CEV due to previous lung disease) so if I got a positive result with no actual symptoms that'd be great!

BogRollBOGOF · 27/12/2021 14:59

I've finally succumbed! Just a tickly throat so far, I've had worse colds this year. Just miffed that I didn't aquire it in the name of having fun Grin

I keep offering the DCs Covidy hugs because they may as well get it now. We can't do anything for a week and they're not missing any of their usual activities so this is the least inconvenient time to get it, and they won't have any new contacts either.

bumblefeline · 27/12/2021 15:01

No I don't want it again it gave me joint pain for months after and I still have a cough a year on. DH has just got it again for the 2nd time, mild but unwanted.

Disneyblueeyes · 27/12/2021 15:04

@UserBot99

I thought I had norovirus until I read in the paper that one of the four top symptoms of omicron is vomiting, so touch wood the next version doesn't have the vomiting.

It wasn't that bad though. I felt a real sense of relief that I was coping with what I'd been running from (metaphorically, emotionally, as well as with masks, vaccines and sanitising and distancing) for two years.

It generates anxiety and to have it finally despite everything and still know that I was ok, here I was, puking down the toilet bowl with a headache but ok I felt sort of reassured.

if you don't get that, you don't get it, horses for courses etc but I think some others know what I mean!

Incorrect. Vomiting isn't one of the top 4 symptoms.
Claretmum · 27/12/2021 15:07

I'm currently on Day 3 and I certainly wouldn't be wishing to catch it - what a bizarre thing to wish for. You never know how it will affect you.

IWannaWishYouANutNutsChristmas · 27/12/2021 15:09

I've had it twice @littlepeas

So getting it to avoid getting it doesn't even work.

And omicron has the most immune escape yet.

Which is part of why it infects so many more people than the early variants.

It infects people who've already had it much more efficiently than any previous variant.

Northsoutheastwest76 · 27/12/2021 15:09

Nope

Madhairday · 27/12/2021 15:12

I'm CEV so I'd prefer not to, thanks.

My fit and healthy DD has it right now and she is really poorly with it, it's not always just a little annoying sniffle. She's not got out of bed in 3 days.

Vapeyvapevape · 27/12/2021 15:13

I do get what you mean op , obviously I don’t want to be ill but it’s like waiting for the inevitable.

UserBot99 · 27/12/2021 15:14

@Disneyblueeyes well the hse says it is.

Greys007 · 27/12/2021 15:17

@Momof2boys1girl I do get where you’re coming from OP. Personally, I know quite a few that have had it and have all had very different experiences. Unfortunately I know 2 people who have died as a result of it. One male, late 50s with severe asthma who passed last year after the 1st lockdown. And the second was a double vaccinated male in his early 40s with no known health issues. So I’m still hoping to avoid it!

But I don’t care if I catch it again because, apart from the annoyance of having to isolate, it was not a big deal for me or my family (including my mum in her 70’s). I am far more relaxed about it than I was before I caught it - I feel a lot freer.

Just my view of course and, as I said, I do appreciate that some people would prefer to avoid it.

OnwardsAndSideways1 · 27/12/2021 15:27

I would rather have it now, in my holidays, than in term-time which will be really inconvenient. If Omicron is incredibly transmissible, then in person lectures with 50 in a room will make sure I get it, surely? If I'm not destined to get it, great, but given that seems unlikely now, I'd really rather have it now than say mid-Jan, but of course life doesn't work like that. My exposure in the holidays is low, once term-time starts it will be high.

KG1000 · 27/12/2021 15:28

We got to that point a few months ago. All four of us caught covid last month, and I have to admit that a weight has been lifted; we were able to enjoy a wonderful christmas with family without the worry of infected them.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that for some covid can be lethal (hence the worry and isolation since the first lockdown). We had mild symptoms, the kids barely any symptoms. We also lost income during isolation. But, for us, the fear of covid has been far, far worse than the reality.

OnwardsAndSideways1 · 27/12/2021 15:29

I am talking about getting Omicron though, not one of the original Covid variants which seemed much more deadly and also treatment wasn't so great at that point. I think we are not all quite talking about the same thing anymore when we talk about 'covid' as those who got it earlier one seem to have had much more severe outcomes, due to lack of vaccine and severity of disease (as much as we can assess that now, given a mainly vaccinated and naturally a bit immune population).

IWannaWishYouANutNutsChristmas · 27/12/2021 15:38

@littlepeas I wasn't very ill the first time but ended up having nearly a month off work the second time when we all had it.

PollyIndia · 27/12/2021 15:41

I felt like that earlier this month. Then I got it. I was actually quite relieved to get the second line on the left, as I've been symptom spotting since march 2020... ooh I feel a bit tired, could this be it etc. Essentially every day!

PollyIndia · 27/12/2021 15:41

second line on the LFT not left

I'm willing to be corrected because I'm not up to date with the latest findings, but even if Omicron does turn out to be intrinsically less severe than Delta it's still probably more severe than original covid or Alpha.
Snowisfalling33 · 27/12/2021 15:43

Funnily enough I was just thinking that this morning.
A big part of me thinks, I know I'll get it so why not get it over with and boost my immunity?

I’ve had 2x Pfizer, a moderna booster and a dose of delta - I am also in good health - I reckon I’ll be ok, especially as all the evidence is suggesting that omicron is milder than delta.

I think I’ve just twigged who you are (Christmas name change?). Stupid of me to engage. You won’t change my mind.
