According to the DM and other sources, Israel and Germany have already announced this.

Ffs.. then the 5th at Easter, 6th in summer and so on?

Are people really willing to get vaccinated every few months ?

OP posts:
Bavarois · 23/12/2021 07:43

If it's what needs to be done to get us out of this hellish situation, yes. Presumably vaccines will develop so they can be given less frequently, they'll hopefully make a combination flu/covid vaccine and we can get it annually. Eventually it might only need to be certain categories that get it at all, like flu.

GoodnightGrandma · 23/12/2021 07:43

The rates should naturally drop in summer, so I can’t see us needing another one before next winter, unless a new deadly variant arrives.
It really does feel like Groundhog Day 😩

TulipsGarden · 23/12/2021 07:45

Yup, no problem at all. I'd much rather be vaccinated than have serious Covid.

LawnFever · 23/12/2021 07:45

Lots of people get flu jabs every year, if I go to certain places on holiday I’ve been asked to get a jab.

I honestly don’t see the issue if it means we can live a more normal life and I’m sick to death of the constant uncertainty so yes, I’ll get every jab going.

DukkaTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 23/12/2021 07:46

It’ll end up like flu where we get jabbed every year, so yes.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 23/12/2021 07:47

Yes that's fine. It won't be forever.

WakeUpLockie · 23/12/2021 07:47

Yes. Flu jab is annual? Flu is a virus.

rrhuth · 23/12/2021 07:49

If you've had three, what is your objection to four Confused?

gannett · 23/12/2021 07:50

It's as if the entire 100+ year science of vaccination is brand new information for some people.

Yes, many things require multiple and ongoing vaccinations. It's how they work.

madisonbridges · 23/12/2021 07:54

I don't care. I had 5 jabs in one year: 2 vax, 1 booster, 2 flu. I want my life back so I'd be happy with a jab a month!

LynetteScavo · 23/12/2021 07:57

Ongoing vaccinations are one thing, but at the moment it's three times a year. This is something that people aren't used to, and just having the vaccine administered is very stressful for some.

Bring on the possibility of one vaccine per year!

Roussette · 23/12/2021 08:00

Great!
Anything to keep me and others safe.

In the last year or so I've had flu jab, pneumonia jab and will be due a shingles jab in a few years. Bring it on!

Momijin · 23/12/2021 08:01

Yes, jabs are protecting us.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 23/12/2021 08:03

I think eventually drug companies will focus on producing Paxlovid and equivalents for treatment retreat than everyone being vaccinated. Maybe the vaccination will be just for the most vulnerable, like the flu vaccine.

motheroflions · 23/12/2021 08:03

There is already a thread about this OP, but no I won't be having it. The WHO have said to stop with boosters as we can't boost our was out of it when such a large portion of the world is still unvaccinated with their first.

Also you can buy fake covid certificates to travel, so unless these vaccines get over to those places we will never be out of this cycle.

Also we do not know if they are safe to use every few months, the risks do climb up with each one. I have had two and will be sticking with two.

I do think though that covid passports will have to show booster top ups eventually. Its all a mess.

Nidan2Sandan · 23/12/2021 08:03

I think if it were just one jab a year most people would be okay with that, for me it's the multiple jabs in such a short space of time. Especially given how unwell they make me..

Eventually it will be a once a year thing, but right now it feels like a once a quarter thing.

Ponoka7 · 23/12/2021 08:06

We've lived a charmed life because of our climate. Other nations beg for annual vaccinations to survive. Africa has been desperate for malaria vaccines and simple ones like the flu vaccine. We now have a threat to health, which may need a yearly vaccination, moving forward. If you needed antibiotics over winter, you wouldn't ask when is enough, enough. Or treatment for asthma, hayfever, indigestion etc. Our bubble has burst, we need to get over it.

Snuggledupforwinter · 23/12/2021 08:09

Viruses mutate because they're geared up to finding better ways of infecting people. Immunisation is a continuous global scientific, economic and healthcare issue (just look at the annual flu jab). It's for the long haul as COVID isnt going away

Prescottdanni123 · 23/12/2021 08:12

I know a 12 year old with type 1 diabetes who has to inject herself multiple times a day. I am not going to start complaining about getting jabbed once every few months.

Roussette · 23/12/2021 08:12

It does already.

We're due to travel end january and the travel pass shows the three.

Nidan2Sandan · 23/12/2021 08:17

That's comparing apples and oranges 🤦🏻‍♀️
Sowhatifiam · 23/12/2021 08:18

What evidence do you have of these risks, please?

venusmay · 23/12/2021 08:18

I'm very pro vaccination but I think that's a lot of vaccination! I feel it's not really fair on the younger kids, quite stressful.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 23/12/2021 08:24

I think it is too early to tell if it'll be able to settle down to an annual (autumn?) shot. We know that flu is seasonal, and can predict strains by looking at how it moves round the hemispheres, and have global manufacturing and distribution geared to that. When one appears out of the usual seasonality, it causes considerable concern (swine flu)

We have seen how covid seems to retreat in the summer in the northern hemisphere, but this new variant appeared in the southern one ie during the summer. So I don't see how it's possible to predict how the disease pattern will settle and whether it will be possible to find a workable schedule for an annual booster, especially if the jabs have to be updated from time to time

Prescottdanni123 · 23/12/2021 08:27

@Nidan2Sandan

Not really.
