I'm done.
Once again they're shutting the damn country (going off the Scotland news today) down for what? A cold for most people!
Yes a few people have died but less than ten with this new variant. What about all those with cancer who have died not being seen quick enough?

We cannot cope with another lockdown.
Taxes are through the fucking roof. Prices are through the roof in April fuel prices will be £2,000 a year!!! How is the average joe bloggs going to pay that?
How can we keep going when the government is destroying this country time and time again!
We've had our jabs. Yet they still insist on giving away billions we cannot afford to businesses who are STILL OPEN.
My mental health can't take it anymore, and there's no point directing me to MH services as they can't cope with the overwhelming pressures either!!
When does this shit end?!

I agree (also in Scotland).

We were told that to get out of this we need vaccines, or the virus is to become more mild and endemic. Both have happened and its still not good enough. People are at the end of their tether, myself included.

emmathedilemma · 21/12/2021 15:21

Totally agree. I'm done with this now and all the uncertainty of not being able to plan anything for fear of it being cancelled and not being able to freely see family / friends etc. Get vaccinated they said..... Hmm

SergeiL · 21/12/2021 15:24

So you really think keeping everything open and risking the NHS being overwhelmed will help people waiting to be seen with potential cancers? Or being treated for cancer? How?

valnevavaxx · 21/12/2021 15:25

Vaccinations work, its the people who aren't getting their vaccines that are taking up the majority of the hospital beds and meaning we have to lockdown to ease the pressure on health services. Everyone is frustrated, but saying the vaccinations aren't the way out just sends the message that there's no point getting them- when the opposite is true.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 21/12/2021 15:27

You’re not making sense op. The point of any lockdowns is to limit pressure on the NHS and thus keep things like cancer treatment going.

Yes it is horrible and I sympathise with you being at the end of your tether, but nobody is inflicting this on us for fun, it’s because there’s a virus out there which we can’t wish away.

RoastedParsnips · 21/12/2021 15:27

THEY ARE UNDERFUNDED!!!

Yet the government want to give away free cash to the pubs but the nhs? Noooo they can go fuck themselves. Makes total sense?

OP posts:
smalltreethisyear · 21/12/2021 15:29

Those with cancer haven’t been able to be seen due to the NHS having to treat Covid patients. As more get vaccinated, there will be less demand on the NHS for Covid and so a wider service can resume. Vaccination is key.

RoastedParsnips · 21/12/2021 15:29

I probably make no sense as I'm near the point of having a breakdown.
I'm done with it. Why can't people use their common sense? If your sick, stay away from people. No need to shut the entire country down time and time again!
SAGE aren't listening to other scientists. They are corrupt!

OP posts:
LadyCleathStuart · 21/12/2021 15:30

Scottish hospital numbers are actually very low at the moment.

RoastedParsnips · 21/12/2021 15:31

Take a look at this guy. He's a scientist and he's telling us it's basically a bad cold... he's been following it since day one and is very clued up. but do sage listen? No. MONEY comes first.

You all need to wake the fuck up.

OP posts:
RedToothBrush · 21/12/2021 15:31

You know it takes years to train and hire new staff and we have a problem right now yeah?

Yeah its bad there isn't the staff in the hospital when we need it but yes we should support pubs too. Its not an either / or at this point.

RoastedParsnips · 21/12/2021 15:31

Exactly! Yet telling people not to mix indoors?! It's ludicrous how do people think any of this makes any sense:
OP posts:
ilovesooty · 21/12/2021 15:32

The news I've seen from Scotland doesn't seem to indicate that they're "shutting the damn country".

bordermidgebite · 21/12/2021 15:33

In your post you talk about people with cancer and how they might have trouble getting treatment - how thier treatment depends on Hogmanay celebrations going ahead I don't understand

I do understand however that there are people who can't get treatment because of the number of covid patients in hospitals and the number of medical staff off sick , many with stress, because of the intensity of their work over the last two years

What is your solution? Refuse to treat any covid patients?

And yes I am pissed off that it's dragging on and on

RoastedParsnips · 21/12/2021 15:33

Sorry I don't mean to be so angry. I think I need a large cup of tea and a lie down. I'm just very upset and confused why people keep following it rather than questioning things.

OP posts:
RedToothBrush · 21/12/2021 15:34

Also, staff sickness is actually more of the problem this time round. Thats still leading to hospitals being overwhelmed.

Don't you get it? Yes, it's a cold for most people. But those hundreds of thousands of people with that "cold" can't go to work. Or they'll pass it on. And that means that the oncology nurse can't give that 14 year old with cancer their chemo. Etc. It's not rocket science. It's just science. And I speak as someone who watched my own parents funeral via webcast because of Covid.
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/12/2021 15:34

Not everyone sees it like you…

emmathedilemma · 21/12/2021 15:34

never mind tea, will you join me in a medicinal Gin @RoastedParsnips?

Volterra · 21/12/2021 15:35

Whilst I absolutely get your frustration and agree the NHS has been underfunded for years, how can we immediately sort it even if lots of money was suddenly thrown at it?

I’m absolutely not wanting lockdown, just want to know how the NHS can be sorted to move us forward from where we are now?

allbartwo · 21/12/2021 15:35

The feeling I seem to be getting now is it's more to do with people (including medical staff) testing lots, then testing positive, and then having to isolate for ten days, even if they aren't ill. Or being contacts of positive people.

It's not that there are huge admissions into hospitals, but the staff are off (but not ill). We've got so used to testing everything that moves, I'm not sure how we get out of this situation. But I don't want my life restricted because of it!

Thethingswedidanddidntdo · 21/12/2021 15:36

I keep seeing this argument about people with cancer etc not being treated, as a reason NOT to introduce lockdowns. I would be genuinely thankful if someone could explain that logic to me as I must be missing something. The way I understand it we need MORE restrictions in order to take pressure off the NHS so non-covid patients can be seen?? What am I missing here guys

RoastedParsnips · 21/12/2021 15:36

I thought you'd never ask. Need to cry into a large glass of gin. It's ruining my Christmas and no matter what I do to escape the news it's just everywhere. It really does not do the mental health any good. I promise I'm not crazy. Grin

Yes I think lots of people have been testing for Christmas, hence the higher numbers.

OP, I agree with you

BrewFlowers I hear you RoastedParsnips.
Today feels a bit rock bottom. I hope things brighten soon, for all of our sakes.
