Most likely scenario is a 2 week circuit breaker on the 28th, which gives enough time to recall parliament.

So, if you wish, you can Christmas away with your loved ones to your heart's content.

Hopefully by that time we’ll have more data and they won’t think it’s necessary at all - SA and Denmark data look good so far irt lower % of cases requiring hospitalisation. We’ve boosted a really high percentage of our most vulnerable.

bumbleymummy · 20/12/2021 14:55

Latest report from Denmark:

files.ssi.dk/covid19/omikron/statusrapport/rapport-omikronvarianten-19122021-hp16

See table 6 irt % of cases being hospitalised compared to previous variants.

I’m glad they’re not, but I’m not much looking forward to a Christmas with my loved ones still stressing about whether or when I need to change my plans to travel back home again on 48 hours’ notice.

Fishlipandtoeface · 20/12/2021 15:01

Sorry op can you quote the info from the article as I can’t see where it says what you have posted? Thanks.

I didn’t think they would dare to do anything to stop Christmas, it would always have been after. Fingers crossed that the figures aren’t too bad and no further restrictions are needed.

Fishlipandtoeface · 20/12/2021 15:06

Right fingers crossed it’s mild then.

AnyFucker · 20/12/2021 15:06

Is this official or more speculation ?

SenseSphere · 20/12/2021 15:08

Christmas spent wondering if the plans you’ve made will actually happen is, to put it mildly, shite.

mildtomoderate · 20/12/2021 15:13

@SenseSphere

Christmas spent wondering if the plans you’ve made will actually happen is, to put it mildly, shite.
Twelve years ago I spent a Christmas expecting my mother to die any minute in the final stages of a battle with pancreatic cancer, and because it was Christmas and the NHS was busy (yes even pre covid) her palliative care was affected. She was in pain until the minute she died.

She finally gave up the fight on New Years Day.

So that was a pretty shit Christmas. But yeah. I suppose cancelling plans is a bit of a bugger.

Speculation garnered from Twitter accounts.

Fishlipandtoeface · 20/12/2021 15:14

Oh here we go the misery Olympics. I’m out.

TrufflesAndToast · 20/12/2021 15:14

I’m amazed so many people actually intend changing their plans if restrictions are announced. Really didn’t think people would travel home a day or two earlier, for example, because Boris told them too. Surely by this point intelligent people are making their own judgements and if they believe restrictions are needed and should be abided by, why aren’t they just staying at home for the whole Christmas period?! You’re no less likely to catch covid on 27th compared to 28th.

Whatever side of the fence you come down on I’m just genuinely surprised that there is anyone left who bases their decisions on what our evil and incompetent (that’s being kind) government tell us to do on any given day. I no longer recognise them as having any authority over me and I will make my own risk assessment. That may mean at times doing more than I’m ‘allowed’ and at times less. Boris can go and fuck himself as far as I’m concerned and can take his guidelines with him!

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 20/12/2021 15:15

Aye. The same channels that brought us the 'speculation' that there would be more restrictions.

Truffles, I am a lawyer so I obey the law and I do not pick and choose which laws I follow even if others do. It is pretty simple for me (even though I am against covid legislation on moral grounds).

SickAndTiredAgain · 20/12/2021 15:19

If this is the case, will they confirm it? It says that there’s not time to recall parliament for any restrictions pre Christmas, but given the bank holidays, surely there’s also barely time for the restrictions on the 28th which the same sources seem to say is the most likely?

cherryonthecakes · 20/12/2021 15:19

I know that they used late night Twitter in the past but if there would be a press conference if it was going to be announced today.

luckylavender · 20/12/2021 15:20

@TrufflesAndToast - depends how you're travelling doesn't it? Not everyone travels under their own steam.

Mybalconyiscracking · 20/12/2021 15:20

Meaning the children will miss another week of school!
Id rather miss bloody Christmas quite honestly!

Step 2 means schools will be open. Unis will be shut for most.

Of course, I should have caveated that I understand how hard it is for people whose careers depend on this stuff. I recognise it’s a privilege to be able to stick two fingers up and crack on.
