I’m just not doing this

I just can’t. My DD has just started to get better from the hideous anxiety she suffered after the last lockdown/ home school. I am about to see my parents who I’ve not seen in two years . A circuit breaker will just turn in to another lockdown. I can’t sit and watch our town turn back in to a bleak ghost town. Boarded up cafes and shops as yet another business fails. Being shouted at in supermarkets for turning the wrong way by accident. Why the hell if the NHS is so unfit for purpose and so easily overwhelmed don’t the idiots in charge inject some cash in to it pronto. Recruit more staff, throw up some temporary buildings. Just bloody well get on with it. They’ve had plenty of time now to get organised. Stop workers having to keep isolating when they get it. Unless people are actually ill we should be in work. We have to see that this is just wrong now. It has to stop. Enough

@Mojoj

Couldn't agree more. But no-one is allowed to get sick anymore 'cos we're all going to die, apparently. Utter shit. There won't be any more lockdowns. There's no money left and the vast majority of people won't comply. It's only on Mumsnet that everyone does as they're told🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oh yeah, it's a fucking hilarious situation!
clarepetal · 19/12/2021 13:45

I'm with you OP.

Cripesitsthegasman19 · 19/12/2021 13:51

I will not be spending the winter staying at home

orchid2021 · 19/12/2021 13:52

The government don't care about the NHS being overwhelmed. they are happily getting rid of over 100.000 frontline health care workers in April. I highly doubt there going to be able train up that many people by then to fill their roles.

Smileyoriley · 19/12/2021 13:56

Because a sufficient number of gullible people were conned into voting for a corrupt party who managed to convince them Brexit would result in huge extra spending on an creaky NHS which had been underfunded for years. “Extra staff?” You are joking. Many European staff have understandably left and making students pay for the privilege of training had a massive impact

GetOffTheTableMabel · 19/12/2021 13:58

Yup. They should just recruit more staff. I don’t have a job and I’ve always wanted to be a nurse or a doctor. I’ll give it a go, I’ve no idea what I’m on about but people like the OP won’t mind that. They should throw up some more buildings and all the people who don’t care about the science can come and be treated by me and anyone else who wants to join my happy band of new medical staff. Step this way if you don’t care for science and experts. I’m sharpening my scalpel ready to perform your surgery.

Swirlywoo · 19/12/2021 13:58

If you are not going to "do this" what exactly are you going to do?

This. I honestly don't understand the point of posts like this. Or ones which say "I'm done" Confused

Cloud1220 · 19/12/2021 14:06

I agree OP, apart from being treated by a covid positive HP. You can forgive the shambles at the start of a surprise pandemic but surely one way to solve the problem was to invest in the NHS. Sure, you can’t train doctors in 2 years (graduate entry nurses you could) but how about giving existing staff pay and conditions they deserve to improve retention?

the80sweregreat · 19/12/2021 14:10

Yep, to ventilate someone probably took that person years of training to learn how to do it safely. Proning a person takes time and effort and you have to know what your doing
That's just one person with a team of people who are qualified and trained in ICU and how to use a ventilator or a CPAP machine. Let alone then read the data and to see how the patient is responding to the treatments available to them.
You can't grab people from the streets to treat someone with covid in your temporary buildings op, but m sure you know this already and I do understand your frustration, we all feel the same :(

BaileysBaileys · 19/12/2021 14:21

@samsalmon maybe they live abroad
All my family live abroad and I haven’t seen them for nearly three years now.
I’m utterly fed up with it all and no end in sight

Famousinlove · 19/12/2021 14:26

The Tories want the NHS to fail so it seems like they are doing us a favour when they dismantle it and sell it off

milly74 · 19/12/2021 14:28

Agree with you OP
but we mustn't criticise the sainted NHS, oh no

milly74 · 19/12/2021 14:30

@Swirlywoo

Refuse to wear a mask continue to see family/friends/ indoors/ mixing A lot of our pubs near us will be "open" even if meant to be closed lots and lots of things and I will enjoy every minute of doing it
Seenoevil1 · 19/12/2021 14:32

I agree with you @Peekapopple
Completely. Flowers

Seenoevil1 · 19/12/2021 14:34

And @milly74
Totally agree Flowers

Medievalist · 19/12/2021 14:35

I'm just not doing this.

Okay - don't then.

TheKeatingFive · 19/12/2021 14:38

Why the hell if the NHS is so unfit for purpose and so easily overwhelmed don’t the idiots in charge inject some cash in to it pronto.

Exactly. Some of the 70 billion they've spent shutting us down might have helped.

And yes I appreciate it doesn't happen over night, but they had many years to prepare properly for a pandemic and almost two years to get things in motion since the pandemic began.

They don't want to do this because it's too difficult. So they'd rather slap down a range of restrictions on the population that they themselves have no intention of abiding by.

You're right to be through with it OP. I know I am.

Normandy144 · 19/12/2021 14:40

Totally agree with you OP. We've all been vaccinated now and many people have had boosters. If the reality is that every winter we are going to be asked to limit our behaviour/interactions and live a half life because we might overwhelm the health service then I'm sorry but they need to put money into that,.train more staff and build more hospitals. Set up the nightingale hospitals again and every one get on with life. Also agree that if you're asymptomatic then you should not have to isolate.

Garysmum · 19/12/2021 14:53

Interesting social experiment:
You chose which society you live in. No transfers allowed without quarantine. Societies are separated by a border. Both have health facilities and all hospitality shops etc.
however society 1 is inhabited and it’s health service staffed by those willing to abide by lockdowns and vaccinations etc.
society 2 is staffed and inhabited by people who want complete freedom of choice.

How many health staff would be willing to work in society 2?
Will society 1 be brought down by the cost of their regime or the mental health cost of the lockdowns?

Impossible to judge.

WonderfulYou · 19/12/2021 15:01

Firstly - calm down. There’s been no announcement yet so there’s no reason to stress about something that might not even happen.

If there is a lockdown then deal with it then.

A 2 week lockdown is nothing going to affect your DDs MH as long as you go outdoors for exercise, speak to friends/family members on the phone or on games, keep her mind active etc.
If it becomes more than 2 weeks then you can get angry and refuse to comply.

Gretaburley · 19/12/2021 15:04

The government need to start recruiting and training doctors and nurses now ready for the future.
Firefighting is no way to run a health service.

MereDintofPandiculation · 19/12/2021 15:17

@Wizzbangfizz

I'm with you OP but you will get slated and screams of selfish on here.

However in the real non mumsnet world the majority of people feel like this which is why I think Boris is hedging his bets right now and hoping the virus is staying mild. And as for being seen by a covid positive nurse - I wouldn't have a problem with anyone with a mild asymptomatic condition treating me.

You mean “in the particular bubble you associate with”. There’s no more reason to think that you and your associates form “the real world” than for me to think my world is “the real world”.
RedRobinRedbreast · 19/12/2021 15:19

@Cripesitsthegasman19

I will not be spending the winter staying at home

So where are you going if everywhere is closed??

MereDintofPandiculation · 19/12/2021 15:19

@Normandy144

Agree that people unlikely to pass the virus on should not have to isolate. But how sure are we that the asymptotic can’t pass the virus on?
MereDintofPandiculation · 19/12/2021 15:19

Asymptomatic. My spellchecker is mathematically inclined
