Probably, yes. Although I did see a report from South Africa which suggested people with prior Delta infection were seeing more breakthrough cases than those who'd had Beta. Not sure about impact on hospitalisations.

CaliforniaDrumming · 22/12/2021 20:26

@MarshaBradyo

Ah he comes the joy 😂 don’t worry California
To be perfectly honest I have no scientific background and am crap at stats, so often need these scientific papers spelled out in the popular press for me. By popular press I mean the BBC or Guardian or similar....
MarshaBradyo · 22/12/2021 20:27

Sorry I didn’t mean you California! Just the idea it’s about to go pear shaped in following post.

Quartz2208 · 22/12/2021 20:28

I normally follow but I think you may have posted too soon NutNuts

What about Alpha and Original though as well we had big waves of those and our Delta was bigger than South Africa on paper

OldposterNewname · 22/12/2021 20:28

If a tiny snippet of data is of any use, I had my antibodies measured after my booster. I originally had 2 AstraZeneca. One month after my Moderna booster my levels were over 2500, which is the highest they measure to.

Lelivre · 22/12/2021 20:34

@OldposterNewname that's ever so reassuring for you!

Different variants have different mutations don't they?

I'm wondering if having had Beta confers more protection against Omicron than having had Delta.

Whilst acknowledging the absurdity encapsulated in this cartoon:

That can only be good news. Well done your immune system. Smile

You still don't think it is, Marsha?
Quartz2208 · 22/12/2021 20:39

Ah the cartoon didn’t appear it was a England positivity chart!

MarshaBradyo · 22/12/2021 20:39

Well I know who to listen to for predictions And it’s not the typically most doom-y tf

Smile
the80sweregreat · 22/12/2021 20:40

Even the Guardian are being a bit positive today ..

Sunshinegirl82 · 22/12/2021 20:44

I still think nothing is certain but the data we've seen so far seems to fall more toward the positive than the negative. Whether it's positive enough to avoid restrictions remains to be seen but my fingers are firmly crossed!

MarshaBradyo · 22/12/2021 20:46

I agree we are in a period of uncertainty I’m not sure what the take out will be from latest data

I do appreciate anyone who posts rationally and with facts though

IWannaWishYouANutNutsChristmas · 22/12/2021 20:47

It's maths though isn't it?

If omicron is intrinsically quite a bit less severe

(which we won't know for sure for a while.)

then that can be negated by having loads more cases than we've ever had.

Which we've got.

I posted a 15% test positivity chart a minute ago.

And here are some more charts:

Depends how many more, growth rate of cases seems to be slowing down, if it peaks reasonably soon in London (and that pattern is replicated throughout the country) it might be manageable without further restrictions. Personally I don't think we can say that any one outcome is inevitable.
MarshaBradyo · 22/12/2021 21:09

Latest data may have an impact but up to today over last couple of days listening to experts on R4 the biggest message has been it’s uncertain

I’ll take their expertise first, then some posts on here help further inform

MarshaBradyo · 22/12/2021 21:20

Plus UKHSA Sara out tomorrow iirc on severity

MarshaBradyo · 22/12/2021 21:23

Data..
