There isn't going to be a need for a lockdown

Ive sat this morning and had 3 text from friends to say they have tested positive, another two texts from people with relatives that are positive.

two work colleagues are positive

with everyone isolating, their will not be a need for a lockdown as it will happen in anywise with everyone ill or isolating

Tbh although I don't support a lockdown, I'm definitely reducing socialising in the run up to Xmas, as don't want to miss seeing extended family. I much prefer a system where people can make their own judgements - I actually think the majority of people are following government guidelines of reducing social contact (although I feel despair for those in hospitality/the arts who don't have financial support)

just had two more positive news texts, this is crazy. I have friends who are now isolating until Boxing Day and not able to go home for xmas

I'm worried about the impact on our already creaking societal infrastructure tbh. Omicron seems so much more infectious than Delta.

I think the government have been quite canny, in a good way. ie no enforced lockdown, but leaving it up to people's common sense as to who they should meet up with and where they should go.

the booster, it would seems no big protection against Omicron,if thats the variant they have

worryingly, they both wear masks obsessively. How on earth have they caught it still, makes no sense

Presumably you know more than two people who have had the booster, and they haven't all tested positive recently...?

Yes efficacy is lowered, yes being triple vaccinated does not gurantee you won't get coronavirus, but cherry picking two anecdotes to further a specific viewpoint is a little redundant when we have epidemiological evidence demonstrating that a booster vaccinated is beneficial, even in the context of omicron.

Yeah stealth lockdown in all but name. So those of us taking phone call after phone call to cancel bookings and looking at footfall reduced by over 50% don't actually get any kind of support from the government.

The only reason I'd support a full on lockdown right now is that at least the gov would need to provide some kind of financial support to hospitaility and those that are prevented from working due to wfh mandates

Don’t forget the booster takes 2 weeks to take affect. So we are looking at mid January for adults and probably feb half term for 12-16 year olds to be protected

Yeh canny indeed. If they don't enforce it they don't have to fund it.....

Honestly I don’t think people know what lockdown was like for most people we were not allowed to leave are homes except In limited circumstances or meet up with anyone for MONTHS!! Honestly us each taking a ten day “turn” isn’t the same thing at all!

Not in Scotland- household contacts have to isolate too so could rack up the 10 day periods especially in larger families

I think people have locked themselves down which is absolutely their choice but I do worry for the hospitality sector and shops where they aren't getting the customers. As a pp said if the government haven't locked us down they don't have to financially support any business .

many other people are working from home, and having heard Joe blogs and his mates have covid will decide to stay home and just go
and get essentials so that they don't get covid and can still have xmas

as for you don't think people know what lockdown is like - well most of us where there, doing lockdown

Well you clearly don’t know what a lockdown is if you think this is one. I can go out now to a bar, theatre, see friends free choice to do what I want so no not a lockdown…if you don’t have covid you can too, if you choose to stay at home you can but your not forced to abs that makes it not a lockdown I am surprised people don’t see the difference really!

Our Primary school are letting kids stay home if the parents prefer. They get a work book and are marked present.

Have to dosagree with this. My 2 DC are both positive for omicron. They're on day 7 and day 5. Me and DH got boosted last month and we haven't caught it yet despite not isolating at all at home. They're only little so we can't.
Sure we could still catch ot but the speed at which it's supposed to transmit would suggest we're past the time we'd be most likely to test +.

When you get the test results do they tell you which variant you’ve got? Currently waiting for PCR result and wondering how to find out what variant it is if positive.
