... I just think he is amazing and so straight talking. He knows his stuff and seems down to earth. I love the way he handles the questions from the press and concentrates on the task in hand.

Yep people seem to ignore the fact he's been caught out with false figures at least once. And some were used to justify a the November lockdown.

Another fan here, he seems very trustworthy and like he actually cares. Obvs also big love for JVT and Jason Leitch who is excellent at explaining tricky things really well.

Surprised by such love for Chris wittey. Today he stated hospitalizations have risen by 10% week on week, and by 30% in London. Yet stats show three month downward trend and - 14 people in hospital yesterday. Why is no one calling him out on his "facts"?
Seriously ???????????? What planet are you on, believing only 14 people in hospital???

I think our country's medical and scientific leadership throughout this pandemic have been truly outstanding, even though they have been hugely hampered by the appalling politicians. JVT, CW and JH all deserve peerages.

It's a matter of fact, the statistics regulator rapped them for it.

I'm sorry but you are WRONG. He did not use false data, there are mutliple models that are being constantly updated. Non of those datapoints are false, they may have been subsequently updated but they were not FALSE. Another example of how the anti-vaxers try to twist words to their agenda.

It was a scenario. The issue is people failed to understand that it was a scenario. People misinterpreted it. Arguing about it now feels like a moot point given we all ended up in lockdown in January.

Yes he did they were out of date and there were more upto date Ones available but they used ones to suit their agenda, oh and posting wrong in capitals to try and prove a point is pathetic.

Out of date and false are 2 entirely different things - so the later modeling showed different projections. What's to say the next update to the modelling would have shown a better or worse projection? You make the best decision you can on ALL the data in front of you at the time you have it, not just a small snapshot. You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

I think you might be mixing up figures for omicron and figures for covid as a whole. I'm pretty sure the 14 in hospital was just for omicron.

Over the summer, a Sunday, we were walking in central London and stopped at traffic lights as they changed to a red man.Two cyclists approached, one in head to toe bright yellow high vis. They hesitated to check we didn’t walk. We exchanged eye contact. High vis man was CW. We smiled. He smiled. We all knew that we knew. He smiled, mouthed thank you as we waited and rode calmly forward (as we gawped after him mumbling omg!!!) It was a beautiful moment made all the better that the second cyclist was clearly some kind of security and this wasn’t long after the harassment he received on the streets.

I guess because they had to accept that people didn’t possess the critical thinking skills to be able to appropriately interpret it. I remember the particular conference quite clearly, and recall that it was very carefully positioned. But then the Daily Mail et al jumped on the numbers without the positioning.

I heard a story about him from a former colleague last year (on the radio). The person was a junior doctor and had phoned him up during a night shift. CW patiently gave the necessary advice and only at the end explained that he wasn't actually on call at all and it was another doctor, but that he was very happy to help! He was of course lovely about it. I'm glad to see he's looking in a bit better health now - I was worried after he had covid last year and didn't take much time to rest.

I thought his explanation of the data in South Africa and why they needed to be treated with caution today was just brilliant.
