Which booster after 2 x Astra Z?

Valaris · 12/12/2021 20:48

I'm 31. I'm double jabbed. Both jabs were AstraZeneca (1st one in March, second one in June)

I saw in the newspaper that having two jabs of AZ gives 0 protection against Omicron. (I'll try and find the article and I'll link it)

Which is the best vaccine to get after two AZ for max protection? After the news tonight, I'm going to go to a walk in centre for a booster tomorrow.

I'd go for Moderna.

Whichjab · 12/12/2021 20:50

Doesn't matter. Pfizer or modern, big questions will be asked about AZ in the future I feel.

Flapjacker48 · 12/12/2021 20:50

You get what the centre is giving at that time - pfizer or moderna.

PAFMO · 12/12/2021 20:50

I had Pfizer.
My husband had Moderna.
I think it depends what they've got the most of.

milly74 · 12/12/2021 20:51

I got Moderna for booster it was what was on offer at the vaccine hub I went to

FreeBritnee · 12/12/2021 20:53

I doubt any 'big questions' will be asked. They made a vaccine as a non profit that was effective against two variants and saved tens of thousands of lives.

When I had mine on Thursday I didn't have a choice - Pfizer was what they had in stock so that's what I had.

According to the UK Health Security Agency, the covid booster gives you additional protection regardless of whether it's Moderna or Pfizer.

DementedPanda · 12/12/2021 20:57

I had moderna after 2 AZ as it was what I was offered.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 12/12/2021 20:59

I think moderna is slightly more effective as a booster after 2 Az jabs

DahliaMacNamara · 12/12/2021 20:59

They had both at the vaccine centre I went to this week, but I didn't get a choice. I was directed to the Moderna line.

Valaris · 12/12/2021 21:01

I'm sure I read somewhere that one of them, they only have you half a shot, but the others it was a full shot.

Maybe I was reading about children vaccines. Oh I don't know. My head hurts.

AZ is still effective against serious illness and death, it just won’t have any effect on whether you catch it or not. It’s not a total write off!

SequinsandStiIettos · 12/12/2021 21:03

moderna is more effective but you do not get a choice - I had Pfizer after 2 x AZ

SequinsandStiIettos · 12/12/2021 21:04

Moderna is half

DixieSun · 12/12/2021 21:04

I chose Pfizer but could have had moderna. They had both on offer that day

Stopsnowing · 12/12/2021 21:06

I had moderna. It was half a shot I didn’t have a choice.

Yuledo · 12/12/2021 21:07

Why only half?

Iamanicepersonreally · 12/12/2021 21:07

I didn’t have a choice, but got Pfizer for the booster. Both initial jabs were AZ. I’d just take whatever’s on offer

Theredjellybean · 12/12/2021 21:07

There isn't a menu to choose from... ☺ You get what is being used that day.
I've had people holding up the queue as they ask what vaccines are on offer, say they don't want this one or that one.. I've lost patience I'm afraid now... I don't have time to stand and explain all the science again..

SweepTheHalls · 12/12/2021 21:08

No choice here, but I got Pfizer

BeeandG · 12/12/2021 21:08

Wasn't given a choice. Had moderna at the vaccination centre yesterday. Arm has really felt heavy today more so than after AZ jabs.

nordica · 12/12/2021 21:09

Moderna is half but only because the full dose is bigger than a full dose of the other vaccines, if that makes sense.

Anyway the Moderna and Pfizer are very similar and you won't get a choice.

Notsomerryandbright · 12/12/2021 21:09

Pfizer and moderna are basically the same, moderna was twice the dose of Pfizer as a standard vaccine. Judging by pp’s comments it seems they’re halving moderna vaccines so there’ll be no difference.

Whichjab · 12/12/2021 21:09

@Yuledo

Why only half?
Boosters are not a full shot. There is a third dose for those who are immune compromised but the UK gov have decided to spread the amount and give a lesser dose.
