Getting flashbacks to trying to get an online supermarket delivery slot March last year.

Fuck.

Anyone else been in the queue? It says about 10 minutes wait but that hasn’t changed for quite a lot of minutes already.

Go to a walk in. I googled walk in boosters and got names of places and times, didn’t use the NHS booking at all.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 12/12/2021 20:40

As @Abraxan says. I just googled and got this list for Leicester if anyones looking www.leicestercityccg.nhs.uk/my-health/coronavirus-advice/coronavirus-vaccine/

LemonCake79 · 12/12/2021 20:45

@Change123today, there is a site called 'grab a jab' which shows details of permanent walk in sites.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/find-a-walk-in-coronavirus-covid-19-vaccination-site/

The one I attended is usually booked only but offers walk in on some days. I found the details on my local authority website.

Kshhuxnxk · 12/12/2021 21:03

@Change123today

Without sounding daft - how do we find out about the drop in centres? My booster was fairly easy to sort out Gp sent a text I booked an apt. Whether we wait till Wednesday & hope we can get an apt as she back from uni without anything else to do! Get her to queue up at a walk in one.

I went for my booked appointment on Friday. Took about an hour and a half in total

It's also a walk in centre but they were only taking 5 walk ins an hour so the queue was loooong

RedToothBrush · 12/12/2021 21:12

If anyone else says 'try a walk in' I might punch them.

FeedMeSantiago · 12/12/2021 21:15

My local pharmacy does a walk in clinic so I went there on Friday. Took about 25 mins, including the 15 min wait afterwards.

DH found out about it on the reddit get jabbed page.

We had a walk in for our second jabs too - got up early and started queuing just before they opened.

If you live somewhere with walk in clinics it's well worth doing if you can.

Please bear in mind when Boris makes announcements like this, the people behind the deliverance of the vaccine roll outs find these things out at the same time as the general public so it's highly unlikely they'll be able to accommodate the increase in demand straight away.

It would be nice if they gave those involved in the vaccine roll out a heads up to get organised but that's not the case unfortunately. Please please have some consideration for the vaccine staff trying their best to accommodate you, my best advice would be to leave it at least a few days to allow for more appointments to be added so your not disappointed when an appointment can't be offered to you imminently.

Yep, a family member has just been saying on Facebook that they burst into tears hearing the announcement as already working flat out as a practice nurse and now found out that it's going to be all vaccines, all the time till the end of the year at least.
megletthesecond · 12/12/2021 21:35

yy Red we don't have walk in centres here. I'm toying with a 20 mile trip to queue and try my luck.

I tried the booking website and gave up after it kept crashing. Shortly after I received a message from my surgery with a number of days and times to pick next week, I chose one and all booked for Wednesday. I’m sure most will get this same message this evening or over the next few days.

RedToothBrush · 12/12/2021 21:52

Have finally managed to get DH something next Sunday the day before me. There's nothing I could find sooner for me and thought it pointless moving mine only for the sake of a day.

ColettesEarrings · 12/12/2021 21:58

Our walk ins are averaging a 2.5hr wait at weekends and 1hr mid week. Over 40s but under six months were being turned away on Friday so fuck knows when over 30s will get done!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 12/12/2021 22:40

No facility for booking online here in Wales. Certainly not in this health authority. I don't know why as I was able to book the DC's jabs that way in July. We have to wait for a letter through the post. And they are still doing 50 plus.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 12/12/2021 22:54

Part of the issue with us is the ‘as the crow flies’ measurements they are using

Yes it is only 4 miles away…if i swim

rainrainraincamedowndowndown · 12/12/2021 23:34

Just saw this.

EasterIssland · 13/12/2021 00:39

Anyone else stuck in a loop trying to get an appointment?

DrunkenKoala · 13/12/2021 00:51

@EasterIssland

Yes, I booked my jab yesterday for end of Dec, but went on this evening to try and bring it forward and am now in a loop so I’ve abandoned it - luckily you don’t lose your original booking, going to try again tomorrow.

Wetdogloveshubert · 13/12/2021 03:02

@EasterIssland stuck in the loop for the last half hour. The website is struggling Angry

generalh · 13/12/2021 03:35

In Wales we can't book anything. Have to wait for a letter. I should be having mine anytime but have no idea as my health board as so far behind. Had second jab in May.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 13/12/2021 03:43

Just rescheduled mine for Sunday morning, looks like this is optimal booking time!

snowdropsandcrocuses · 13/12/2021 03:43

Try booking at this ridiculous hour. I
Just booked straight away. No queue at all. Admittedly first appointment in January but I have to wait til then anyway as I just had covid

bcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyza · 13/12/2021 09:01

In Scotland you get a letter with your appointment.

SirensofTitan · 13/12/2021 09:09

@bcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyza

In Scotland you get a letter with your appointment.
I think I remember this apparently rather old school way of doing things from the initial jabs.

Is it really more efficient than the English way of multiple options for organising your own booster? How does it work if you can't make the appointment?

I think the online system is good with all the options you can choose (acessible, parking etc), It was blinding obvious that it would be overwhelmed after the announcement, (was there anyone who didn't know that would happen?) but overall everyone I've spoken to has had a good experience with it
