Shush - not allowed anything positive on here

OhDear2200 · 09/12/2021 17:44

Key message is still to get vaccinated. But optimistic good news 🤞

milly74 · 09/12/2021 17:45

so SAGE need to stop scaremongering then

itsgettingwierd · 09/12/2021 17:46

It does sound more positive every day

Viviennemary · 09/12/2021 17:48

Next week if will be another new variety sent to terrify us into submission.

ComDummings · 09/12/2021 17:48

Sounds promising

You’re not wrong
GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 09/12/2021 17:50

That’s good

A milder but more transmissible version sounds quite positive as it drives out the earlier version causing more serious illness?

OhDear2200 · 09/12/2021 17:50

Oh for goodness sake. Why ruin it with your crazy theories? Just accept that the research gave us evidence. Listen to yourselves!

OhDear2200 · 09/12/2021 17:51

Oh and get vaccinated.

manolantern · 09/12/2021 18:04

More good news just in from SA, omicron significantly less virulent:

I think both delta and omicron could both be active at the same time though.

🤣🤣

OliveTree75 · 09/12/2021 18:13

Sounds very promising

frazzledali · 09/12/2021 18:14

why can't it just be promising news without all the mad bastards jumping on and shouting IT'LL BE A NEW VARIANT NEXT etc? You make yourselves look deranged.

Purplewithred · 09/12/2021 18:15

Well if I was a Virus I'd mutate to be more catchy but less lethal - no point in me killing off all my hosts, I want my hosts to be out and about passing me on to all their friends.

Fingers crossed.

CaliforniaDrumming · 09/12/2021 18:16

God I really needed this today. Please let it be true.

MarshaBradyo · 09/12/2021 18:19

Good news and more positivity is very welcome

Had booster

Feel better than yesterday

Fingers crossed op

CheesyFootballsAreEvil · 09/12/2021 18:20
Are there any articles linked to read? I don't have twitter
UnmentionedElephantDildo · 09/12/2021 18:22

Whether it gives a better picture fir NHS depends on his many cases there are.

Say it causes only half the number of hospitalisations (1% rather than 2%), but the number of cases is twice as high (escapes immunity, highly transmissible) then we still have the same number in hospital.

Not posting to be a doom monger, just to point out that controlling transmission matters

Lacedwithgrace · 09/12/2021 18:22

Does anyone know if there is info on how it's affected unvaccinated people? I'm assuming there are some unvaccinated who have Omicron. I'm not an anti-vaxxer before someone gets angry, just curious!

CaliforniaDrumming · 09/12/2021 18:33

I have been avoiding the news-partly Covid and partly because I cannot bear to read about the Arthur case- but this just whizzed across my feed.

EMA says Omicron mostly mild, though more evidence needed.

Brilliant news ! Thank you for sharing !

howdiditcometothis666 · 09/12/2021 18:38

@Lacedwithgrace This article mentions them but it is not really a large sample.

Early data from the Steve Biko and Tshwane District Hospital Complex in South Africa’s capital Pretoria, which is at the centre of the outbreak, showed that on December 2 only nine of the 42 patients on the Covid-19 ward, all of whom were unvaccinated, were being treated for the virus and were in need of oxygen.

The remainder of the patients had tested positive but were asymptomatic and being treated for other conditions

She does mention in the Twitter thread is likely as a result of prior immunity/vaccination and shows the importance of vaccination. She doesn’t necessarily mean it is mild in unvaccinated people with no prior infection. I think we’re still waiting to see that data.
