PCR result waiting time

I know this has probably been done to death and I’m sorry, but does anyone mind filling me with a glimmer of hope regarding the waiting time for PCR results. It’s just come up to 24 hours now for DS’s result which I know probably isn’t that long, I just wish I could stop checking my phone every five minutes!

We've done two this week - first was done 2pm Sunday, came back midnight last night. Second done 10am yesterday, came back 10am today. Two different sites. Definitely slower than usual, and both sites were busy.

Dottydoodoo · 07/12/2021 17:42

It’s just come through 31 hours later, negative.
Thank you everyone who has kept me sane on this thread, and I hope those of you waiting get your results through soon 😊

We did a postal test for DD yesterday. No results yet although it won't have been at the lab for even 24 hours yet.

Either way DD isn't well enough for school as she has a full on cold and cough.

I unfortunately forgot to make a note of the Royal Mail bar code which I'm annoyed with myself about. I do have the registration number of the number stickers that go on the tube etc so I'm guess 119 could locate the results through that if needed. I always panic that I haven't registered everything correctly.

NoseringGirl · 07/12/2021 18:19

@Dottydoodoo so glad you got a negative result back! I'm onto 26 hours and waiting now, longest we've ever waited...
We usually go to a drive through one but had to go to the walk in this time. The man there said it would be 24-48 hours but a lot were coming back after 12 hours.
I've never refreshed my emails so often! I've even been checking my covid records on the NHS app in case it maybe appears there first?

Dottydoodoo · 07/12/2021 18:24

@NoseringGirl thank you! Omg I don’t know how many times I have refreshed my emails today, I’ve switched my phone off and on again and in the end I had to leave it away in a drawer upstairs. Fingers crossed yours is back soon too, this time is the longest we have ever waited we must have been lucky before.

Second one done yesterday and back in 22 hours.

Wakemeuuuup · 07/12/2021 18:41

This is the longest I've waited for a drive through test result. Currently 31 hours. I've had to miss my prepaid exercise class 😫

ByThePool2021 · 07/12/2021 19:22

31 hours and still waiting here. Ds is absolutely fine as well, it’s just his temp hit 39 when he woke up yesterday morning but one dose of calpol and he’s been absolutely fine.

LividLaVidaLoca · 07/12/2021 19:33

60 hours from posting two weeks ago Confused

Dilbertian · 07/12/2021 20:07

It's been 2.5 days so far. I just discovered that my 'receipt' with the bar code on it went out with the recycling this morning, so if mine hasn't registered I won't be able to do what ineedacupoftea did. How soon after symptoms do you need to do a PCR? If I order a postal one now it will arrive 5 days after symptoms began - would that be too late?

ewchoc · 07/12/2021 20:10

3 days for our postal ones to come back. Each time we've gone to post them the post boxes have been too full of other postal ones to fit them in so I think we can assume they're a bit overwhelmed. Fifteen cases in my daughter's class.

Bee4229 · 07/12/2021 20:11

Drive through 15 hours recently.

Postal sent off yesterday afternoon and results back at 2.30pm today so less than 24 hours.

Wakemeuuuup · 07/12/2021 21:06

Finally in and thankfully negative. 33 1/2 hours

MoirasWigStand · 07/12/2021 21:11

We’re at 33 hours and waiting for a drive thru. Previous ones done a few months ago at same site took 16 hours

alloutofcareunits · 07/12/2021 22:33

DD came in positive from drive through, 32 hours after testing

NoseringGirl · 07/12/2021 23:05

After 29 hours mine has come back negative!

kirinm · 07/12/2021 23:05

Phew. Negative test - 31 hours

Icanseeclearlynow12 · 08/12/2021 06:52

My daughter's test that I sent Monday afternoon in the post was only delivered Tuesday night 11pm!! Will stick to drive through from now on

HelloCanYouHearMe · 08/12/2021 08:00

We did 3 PCRs on Saturday afternoon at the same test centre

2 came back within 12hrs - negative.
1 came back 48hrs later - positive

DobbyTheHouseElk · 08/12/2021 08:41

Posted Monday still waiting….school are asking when will I know!

EatYourFive · 08/12/2021 08:49

Sent my DD's test off using a priority mail box on Monday, it got collected at 4pm. Got the negative test result at 10.30 pm on Tuesday.

Lindy2 · 08/12/2021 09:12

We're still waiting for DD's which were posted Monday afternoon.

I'm actually very anxious about it and the waiting is really not doing me any good at all. We've already been through some awful times with Covid this year and I think I just have no stamina or strength left to deal with more. I'm so annoyed I forgot to take a note of the postal bar code.

I think a drive through would have been better but DD has ASD and prefers complete privacy to do the test so a home one is usually less stressful.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 08/12/2021 09:18

Lindy2 I know. It’s torture waiting for the result. Hope you get an answer soon. I posted on Monday as well.

School keep asking me for the results. We don’t have a test centre nearby. Didn’t fancy a 2 hr round trip for a test. So went for postal.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 08/12/2021 09:24

Walk in centre yesterday morning, Tests taken at 8am.

Email results came just after midnight, text results 6am today.

Moral of the story - check your emails!!

Flump9 · 08/12/2021 09:30

41 hours and counting. Walk through centre Monday at 4pm.
