Absolutely heart breaking. Will it change anyone's mind re the vaccine I wonder? His family certainly hope so.

I'm local to here and his family commented on facebook he had severe asthma - not sure why its excluded from article. Still sad but he did have underlying issues

SLH2003 · 30/11/2021 18:17

No it won't make a difference. You can find so many stories like this, of aintvaxxers dying of covid.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 30/11/2021 18:25

Yes read this today and it really upset me, the terrible unnecessary heartbreak his family have been left with, the loss of maybe another 40 years of life, thanks to antivaxx propaganda on social media.

Strange you say that - I've followed the tweets from his twin sister and she hasn't mentioned anything of the sort. Just that he was perfectly healthy. Very odd.

Even if he did have asthma - it's incredibly common, and still a tragedy that he died when in all liklihood he would've survived if he'd been vaccinated.

Really?! So an untrue article.

Very strange he refused the vaccine with severe asthma

XenoBitch · 30/11/2021 18:26

I don't think anyone who is has not even had their first jab will be convinced by now.

TheKeatingFive · 30/11/2021 18:26

I don't think these types of articles make any difference to the anti vaxxers unfortunately

GoGoGretaDoll · 30/11/2021 18:27

Indeed, just read the comments.

alreadytaken · 30/11/2021 18:57

Anti-vaxers on here will claim anything - including that someone had severe asthma when they didnt. A commonly used asthma drug can even be beneficial. www.pharmaceutical-technology.com/news/asthma-drug-covid-19-recovery/

If that is true I suggest you complain to IPSO under Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editor's Code, as the article states clearly "Hewasextremely unlikely to die from Covid, as a physically fit 42-year-old with no underlying conditions".

Do report back and let us know the outcome of your complaint (which I have an inkling you won't make).

Bagelsandbrie · 30/11/2021 18:59

The Daily Fail runs articles like this on almost a daily basis. People just never think it will happen to them.

userperuser · 30/11/2021 19:03

Probably no more than tragic stories of vaccine injury would change anybody’s mind.

Could you provide a credible source for that claim? A quote from a member of his immediate family confirming that he was ‘severely asthmatic’, published by a reputable media organisation, eg BBC, Sky, the Times would be good.

There is plenty of jabbed people dieing and he could still have died if he had been vaccinated we don't actually know.

I am doubled jabbed and booked for my third. But story's like this seem very close to propoganda.

More like people gloating about anti-vaxxers dying. Both are awful sites.
GiveMeNovocain · 30/11/2021 19:18

A man has died. It's so sad that people treat his death as some kind of morality tale. I hate this attitude of using people's deaths to prove a point and that includes using rare vaccine damage to dissuade people from vaccination. Two sides. Same coin.

I agree. Both get used to push an agenda, which just seems so distasteful to me.
ArblemarchTFruitbat · 30/11/2021 19:23

Article of 4 August mentions asthma:

www.theguardian.com/world/2021/aug/04/fit-and-healthy-man-42-from-southport-who-rejected-vaccine-dies-of-covid

As pps said, asthma is very common and clearly, even if he did have it, Eyers was still hyper-fit.

My sister is severely asthmatic; she was double-jabbed in the CEV cohort. Her DP contracted Covid last summer - she didn't pick it up at all despite sharing a bed with him prior to his positive test. Amazing testament to the efficacy of the vaccine IMHO.

Starcaller · 30/11/2021 19:25

I think it's less about individuals and more about misinformation and the dissemination/proliferation of bogus vaccine info that people are being flooded with. I think it is a mental health issue for a lot of people – people who are vulnerable are easier targets for movements that make them feel like part of a cause. And the whole scene pulls them in. I have a family member who has gone down the Facebook group rabbit hole. I don't think he's stupid - I know he isn't - but he's vulnerable and his anxiety has been taken advantage of.

And the article I posted about the poor pregnant woman is about the misinformation within the NHS itself that is still ongoing.

I get your point but he deeply regretted not getting vaccinated and kept telling his family and doctors this.

His family tried to use their heartbreak and his tragic death to have some kind of positive outcome. I can understand why they would want to do this.

If he and his family did not want media attention and wanted to be left privately to grieve then I agree it would be distasteful.

Watapalava · 30/11/2021 19:31

If you google his name, covid and asthma you’re will see references in most articles saying his own twitter feed quoted that he was living with asthma

That’s not to belittle his death

Just to point out that I didn’t make this up

His actual twitter is no longer active but like I said it does reference it

Well as long as you don't criticise people who do the same if they regret the vaccine due to damage.
