Are you really prepared to take every single vaccine

It worries me that we may have to keep having vaccines going forward. I’m due my booster which I will take but I’m hearing that AZ are in the process of tweaking the current vaccine to combat the new strain. So we are then required to take another booster. Many variants can crop up, suppose another one does very soon. I’m concerned about the number of vaccines we could be taking. Is anyone else? And no I’m not an anti vaxer.

@Mrsjayy

I have the flu vaccine every year so 2hy not ??
Exactly. I really don't get why so many people are hesitating.
Glinsk · 28/11/2021 13:19

Triple jabbed here. Happy to have one e ery six months if that helps.
I've had flu jab for the last 10 years.
I've had covid, badly, and I never want to go through that again headaches / sore arm are so trivial in comparison.

Almostwelsh · 28/11/2021 13:19

I will take the booster this year, but both the previous vaccines made me ill for several days. If the booster does the same, I might not bother again and certainly not more than annually. I'm not high risk for Covid nor do I work in healthcare.

I do have a flu vaccine every year because it's free with work but that has never made me ill. If it did I might not bother with that either.

Campfirewood · 28/11/2021 13:20

@Valhalla17

I pay for the flu vaccine, no requirement to have it.

I have had flu though, and that was fucking awful.
My friend (Doctor), watched a fit, healthy, young Mum die in her A and E last year with flu. Flu can actually be really serious.

TheNumberfaker · 28/11/2021 13:21

I’m very happy to have boosters every few months if it means fewer people die/ suffer severe illness either directly or indirectly (nhs overwhelmed) from Covid. I trust in science and medicine to do what’s best for everyone, with the knowledge that nothing in life is completely risk-free.

mynameiscalypso · 28/11/2021 13:22

Personally, yes, absolutely. My main concern though is whether there is enough to go round. I'm am vulnerable (had my third jab and will need a booster in a few months) but I would be uncomfortable if getting it meant that other vulnerable people were missing out. I'm also concerned about global vaccine inequality.

Glinsk · 28/11/2021 13:23

@Valhalla17

Those that say " well I take the flu jab every year"....I assume that's because you're vulnerable or have an underlying condition that requires it...and I expect the same for Covid vaccines and boosters. Every single man, woman and child does not require this. Its beyond ridiculous.
I'm guessing you've never had flu. I had it when I was in my early 40s. I had never been so ill for so long, nothing like a cold. Covid was much, much worse. My DC have both had flu, one swine flu and the other regular flu. They also get an annual flu jab despite being in the peak of health and in their 20s.
WoolyMammoth55 · 28/11/2021 13:23

I got the booster on Friday. First 2 jabs were AZ, booster was Pfizer. I got a mad fever about 5 hours afterwards, took paracetamol and an antihistamine (which pharmacist who jabbed me recommended for side effects).

That night was hell - freezing hands and feet, aches all over, couldn't keep my eyes open but felt too achey to sleep deeply.

Next day fever, shivering, aches were joined by the worst headache I've ever had and I had no appetite and felt really nauseous.

I've got a 10 month old and 4 year old and I physically couldn't care for either of them. DH was swamped and we called MIL to drive 3 hours for emergency code red help.

Trying to breastfeed the baby at 2am had me crying because it hurt so much to hold him and I just felt too poorly.

The fever broke about 5am this morning but I'm wiped today and still not up to much. Still can't eat and feel faint and exhausted.

If I'd known how bad these side effects would be I wouldn't have got it, honestly. I just think that 3 vaccines for the same virus in a year is too much, at least for my body. I'm no anti-vaxxer but at this point I'm done.

TheVampiresWife · 28/11/2021 13:24

I inject myself weekly with a low dose chemotherapy drug for an autoimmune disease. I also have annual flu vaccinations, pneumovax every five years, I've had two covid vaccines and will have my booster this week.

Basically, gimme all the vaccines!

SisyphusDad · 28/11/2021 13:25

Yes, I really am.

DramaLlllama · 28/11/2021 13:27

Yep. I’l take it. I have the flu jab every year without question so why wouldn’t I?

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 28/11/2021 13:29

@Viviennemary

I had the booster and had a horrific headache and was extremely tired and very very sore arm. The way I feel at the moment is no more vaccines for me.
Covid would be much worse!
Valhalla17 · 28/11/2021 13:29

@Glinsk I've had flu in my 30s. Felt like I was going to die, so know what it's like Smile

I had my Covid vax recently as needed it for work, but to be honest pre-vax hanging around friends who were vaxxed actually triggered an autoimmune reaction in my body. 6months of being unwell and could only have my own vax once I had recovered. My period also randomly appeared the day after I met with all my vaxxed friends and it was really very odd.

I genuinely don't believe everyone needs these things...

derxa · 28/11/2021 13:30

There is no way I'm having the booster. The two Covid jabs I had triggered a very serious case of psoriasis. I'm covered in plaques and look like a burns victim. I've' never had psoriasis in my life before. My life is an absolute misery at the moment.

dottiedodah · 28/11/2021 13:30

The problem is if you dont take the vaccine and catch Covid then that much worse! Our friend in her 40s died of covid in the Summer .Horrendous .

Appiandterri · 28/11/2021 13:31

Yes.

Mincepiepoptarts · 28/11/2021 13:31

No. Had first two and had covid. Will get the booster ahead of holiday to Europe next year but not prepared to sign up to a regime of constant vaccines every 6m - 1 year.

saraclara · 28/11/2021 13:31

Yes. Like others, I have my flu vaccine every year. It's tweaked to cope with different variants each year, just as a covid one will be. Just not an issue.

AnyFucker · 28/11/2021 13:32

Yes, but I do wonder when we will get to the end point.

I have had 3 vaccinations against COVID in 10 months. Seems like massive overkill even for a novel virus. I wonder how long they class it as “novel”.

EsmeraldaFudge · 28/11/2021 13:32

Can't see the issue with this

How many vaccines at one time do we give children ? Unless you're an anti vaxxer?

Do we complain about them at such frequent intervals with babies? Do we complain about yearly flu vaccines ? Unless it's an anti vaxxer thing no we don't.

This isn't a surprise. Anyone with a modicum of intelligence would understand why this was likely.

I'm genuinely sorry for anyone who have had horrible side effects. People have side effects from other vaccines too. It isn't a legitimate reason to advocate not to take them. My DM has horrible side effects from the Flu vaccine , I'm not minimising it but it's incredibly dangerous to extrapolate that to large groups of people , the majority of which have not had them.

You roll the dice on side effects every single time you take a new medication. You roll the dice every time you eat a new food. It's part of life. You can mitigate it with actual information but noone can fully predict exactly how your personal individual body will react. Not even you. Scientists are not magicians.

OP seriously , this is not any different to the other vaccines offered and needing boosters. Do you realise how incredibly lucky we are to have the option for updated vaccines to protect against mutations (hopefully...we obviously don't know enough about Omicrum yet). This is a massive privilege not accorded to millions of the people in the past and still people around the world now.

Do you realise how not that long ago relatively variations in an illness would have automatically been death sentences for large groups of people. The ability to debate it is a luxury and a privilege , Do not forget that.

No I am not vulnerable or overweight.I do take public transport daily in Central London and no one is wearing masks. I will therefore take all the vaccines I can get because they are no biggie for me.
Lucia574 · 28/11/2021 13:34

I’ll gratefully have every vaccine going. I have the flu jab, which is tweaked annually and usually am up to date with hepatitis, yellow fever, rabies etc for long haul travel. Why wouldn’t I have this one too?

supremelybaffled · 28/11/2021 13:38

They tweak the flu vaccine every year, so why not? I suspect that we'll all be having an annual covid jab. Or at least, it will be suggested that we all have one.
