Some restrictions back, fed up

Just heard the news about masks returning as of next week and changes to travelling rules.

It’s not so much that wearing a mask is inconvenient, it’s the fact that we were told restrictions were over and that we could get on with our lives.

I know I will get shot down for this post, but if it isn’t the ‘omnicron’ variant then it’ll be something else.

I’m sure many people will be in favour of tighter restrictions ‘until numbers drop’. And then what? In a few months’ time when the latest variant is out, will we have to do the same again?
“it’s just for a few weeks/months”

This isn’t going away. What’s the point of having 3 vaccines?

I’m fed up with it all, are people really prepared to do this for the foreseeable future ?

yes thats what they signed up for.

Great, every time my workplace introduce a new rule I'll tell them I didn't sign up for it.

New uniform? New hours? New online system? New health / safety / travel protocols?

Sorry, wasn't in my initial contract.

Let's see how long it takes until they fire me Grin

TempsPerdu · 27/11/2021 23:52

Kids probably 3 or 4 years old on the public transport wearing masks without issue

Hell will freeze over before my preschooler wears a mask. Stay in Fuerteventura if that’s the kind of society you want.

Furries · 27/11/2021 23:53

@sst1234

You are not wrong OP. Many many many people among us have been taken in by an irrational fear and almost enjoy having restrictions placed upon them because it makes them feel safe. They don’t mind being infantilized. The problem is these people really struggle to think for themselves. They struggle to see beyond the headlines. Their enthusiasm for lockdowns and other restrictions is doing untold damage to people’s lives. It is literally destroying peoples health - yes not Covid but the restrictions will kill more people in the long run. Young peoples futures are being put on the line, people’s mental health is being sacrificed. But hey, what does that all matter, when you can wear a mask to feel all warm and fuzzy inside and then go into full lockdown because you can work from home or watch movies all day with the kids on furlough.
This is an example of the biggest load of grandstanding, patronising, boring and repetitive trope I’ve seen recently on here.

Am pretty sure the huge majority are sick to the bloody back teeth of everything after the last 21 months, but can also rationally understand that life isn’t normal right now. I seriously doubt that anyone feels warm and fuzzy, or enthusiastic about lockdowns/restrictions/whatever.

Twatty posts like this are why I’ve avoided this board for so long - was clearly a mistake popping back.

And I’m not directing this purely at you, believe me there are plenty!

I'm triple jabbed.

I'm just not doing any of the restrictions any more.

It's performance safety.
It's fear used to undermine personal autonomy.
It's weird single issue decision making.
It's terrifying how the masses will capitulate freedom in the hope the authority will save them.
It's a brink of authoritarianism I never thought I'd see.
It's a virus only serious to a very small percentage of people.
There's a vaccine available to all which prevents death.
There are now good treatments if you become ill.
There are devastating consequences for young people and the economy.

I'm done.
I'm just not doing any of it anymore.

onanotherday · 27/11/2021 23:56

..I wonder what the age range of those not wanting to wear a mask is? The entitlement and selfishness..or bloody ignorance astounds me.
I bet our grandparents who lived through six years of war would be shocked at what a me me generation we have become?

I won't be wearing one. For the first time I shall be taking advantage of my legal exemption.
@Elphame if you wore a mask previously than you are not legally exempt.

Phrenologistsfinger · 27/11/2021 23:57

We never stopped wearing masks, wfh and social distancing as I have been on immune suppressing meds so meh. I have v. few fvcks to give about this.

Our grandparents who fought for our autonomy and personal freedoms?

Oh goody, we’re back on the trite WW2 analogies. How I’ve missed those over the past few months. Hmm

No such thing as 'legally exempt'

Anyone can declare themselves exempt and not have to explain one word why! Not to anyone

And even if you wore masks previously.... things change

This thread is wild. People that would 'rather die' than wear a mask to tesco! As a person in a country where everyone has been wearing masks for over a year now these types of threads seem so bonkers!

And has your country eliminated it then?

It’s so pathetic reading all the people saying “I’m done with it”.

The whole World is jaded with it all. But sadly the pandemic is not “done” with the world yet.

MalagaNights · 28/11/2021 00:05

The choice isn't wear a mask or die fgs.

It's get vaccinated or run a minute risk of death.

Or choose not to be vaccinated and risk a slightly higher risk of death.

Any which way the risk is incredibly low.
Unless you're over 70 & unvaccinated. Which would be entirely your choice.

My mum lived through WWII. Is she now a selfish whinger because she finds wearing a mask difficult and doesn't want to?
MalagaNights · 28/11/2021 00:07

You do you then.

Exactly.
Thank you

Now we have a vaccine that is exactly where we are.

onanotherday · 28/11/2021 00:07

Yes they did....but not sure you can choose freedom from a virus 🙄

Yay, go you!

I think everyone is utterly fed up. Thankfully, not everyone has failed to move on from toddler tantrum time and can therefore take a more measured approach to shifting situations.

It’s not just the risk of death though, is it?

It’s the risk of organ failure, lung problems, breathing issues, respiratory disease, heart failure, blood clots and so on.

Kitkat151 · 28/11/2021 00:08

@Ireallydontcare55

What worries me is how willingly people have accepted the idea of wearing a mask for the rest of their life potentially
Why does it worry you?
Pumperthepumper · 28/11/2021 00:10

Yes, there’s been a lot of talk of these worries about societal acceptance, what exactly is the worry?
